309 Tasting Notes

Not that I’ve had many lapsangs, but this tastes like what I think a lapsang souchong should be! Just the right amount of smoky. Don’t think this is a tea I’d do every day, but this is exactly what I’d keep on hand for that every-once-in-a-while I feel like brewing up a smoky cup!

P.S. I broke the damn infuser basket on my new teapot!!! Shows ya what I get for trying to clean it more quickly by turning it inside out. It looks like the mesh just slides up into this little crease in the rim and that’s how it stays, but… ugh. Not sure if it’s even worth the effort to fix it or if I should just get myself a new infuser basket. At least it’s easy to just dunk my tea ball in, hook it on the latch, and use it in place of the basket.

I was so excited about my new teapot that came in the mail! Cute, practical, easy to use, and a good bit smaller than the asinine crapper I’d been using. I showed it to my mom, thinking she’d find it cute – and she laughed at me! “You’re obsessed! How many pots is this now?” (Two, Mom. It’s two.) I did the offended-laugh and reminded her of her “small” collection of singing bowls. She concurred.

Anywho. Resteeped the batch from last night. I was so excited about having the weekend off and doing fun things today that I didn’t sleep for crap, so it’s a good thing I had two cups worth of this stuff I’d preserved from yesterday!

When my last tea order came in (butiki) it was still on the table when my partner came home. She looked at the tea, did a half eye-roll and said “oh good. you were almost running out of tea.”

Holly Faye

Yeah, I’m pretty sure my parents think of me as the Crazy Tea Lady. But hey, there are worse things to have in your cupboard in enormous quantities!

Hahahahahahaaa!!!! That sounds exactly like my mom! :D

This week. Has been. A freaking. CIRCUS. I’ve spent the past five days wondering if there was a full moon out or something because ALL the crazies are out, and ALL the crazy things are happening, and they’re out and happening ALL at once… the week I had to work the store by myself for pretty much the whole time.

Well, that question was answered on the 11:00 news tonight when they were talking about the “Supermoon” that was supposed to be out tonight.

I was going to start sipping down some English Breakfast or Yunnan Noir this morning. Instead, I made this. Because some mornings you just need your favorite tea. And I didn’t finish what I made.

To hell with it being midnight! To hell with the caffeine! To hell with me wanting to get up relatively early tomorrow morning! I’m drinking this mother and nobody’s gonna stop me!

P.S. I don’t think this is the first time I’ve gotten raisin-y vibes in this tea, but I think this is the first time I’ve known what to call it. Sigh. Raisins. First they betray me in cookies that look like they have chocolate chips, now they betray me in tea that smells like cocoa. Raisins are traitors. Damn raisins.

JustJames

there’s a shirt from a store here named ‘utopia’ that has a giant cookie on the front that says ‘stupid raisins, stay out of my cookies!’ hope your weekend is better?

Holly Faye

Thanks, it will be! I might need that shirt.

ashmanra

I saw a greeting card once that said, “I will be the kind of mother who never puts raisins where a chocolate chip ought to go.” That has been my motto ever since.

Backlog from this morning. Because some days, you just need black dragon pearl.

Re-infused the batch I made yesterday… weak as all get-out. Oh well. I was going to leave the little bit left in the bag for another random cup, but it’s as good a time as any for a sipdown.

I’m getting more of a flavor this time than I did the first time around. Honestly, the main flavor I get is graaaaaaaass. I’m trying to be a sooper-sofisticatud tea drinker and taste all the subtle little nuances, but all I can really say, apart from a sliiiiiiiiight floral sweetness, is graaaaaaaaass. Light-bodied, white-tea-subtle graaaaaaaass. I would drink my green needle tea if I wanted that. Not a bad tea by any means, but I’ve grown to favor Arbor’s bai mu dan and this just doesn’t match up. I would drink it on the nights I wanted a cleansing taste without much caffeine.

In the process of sipping this down.

Oh, and I learned a valuable lesson today about pouring tea into a travel mug that formerly housed coffee. Don’t!

CHAroma

I’ve made that mistake before. :P

TeaKlutz

Blech! It’s a disgusting experience.

My fiftieth tasting note! * dance * (…That’s scary.)

I’m debating on whether I’ll get this tea after I sip it down. Probably not right away. I’ll probably go on pursuits for other jasmine-flavored things, or just stick with my normal jasmine pearls.

The thing about my tea obsession at this point is that when I was starting out, I had a couple of things I liked, and I was willing to try everything. I’ve only been doing this for about three months now, but I’ve found a niche (malty black teas!), and it makes me kinda “meh” about having anything else. Nooooo…

(meanwhile, looks at tea description)

Wait a minute WHAT? Oolong?!? Since when has this tea been an oolong?
It was listed as a green tea on Adagio’s website! Are they lying to me, or have I had an oolong in my cupboard this whole time and not known about it?

CHAroma

Woot! Congrats!

Holly Faye

Thanks! :D

Yup. I knew it. I did goof this tea by putting it in the tin that used to have chai. Oh well. Still tastes grassy and sweet – until I knock it over with my bass guitar and spill it all over my guitar amp. Damn!

Terri HarpLady

I hate when things like that happen! :)

Bio

The name’s Holly, and I’ve been a tea drinker since spring of 2013. Tea is my happy place – it picks me up, it calms me down, it helps me focus, it helps me loosen my grip, it’s a little bit of positivity in each day. I do not drink alcohol, so tea is my recreational beverage. I love learning everything there is to know about it and sharing my experiences.

When I’m not drinking or writing about tea, I’m working at a music store and pursuing a Master’s degree in professional writing. You may also find me reading, writing, trying to learn French, cycling on the weekends, being a klutz, or making horrible puns and Star Trek references. Likely all at the same time.
