This is a fairly tasty but bitter sheng puerh. It was quite bitter in thte early steeps. I would say it took at least four steeps to begin to lose its bitterness. It also developed that fairly typical sheng sweetness often described as apricots or stonefruits, but it took a while. This was not a tea that was noticeably sweet in the first few infusions. I would venture to say that this tea also developed a noticeable aftertaste, bittersweet in nature. As to the big question about this tea, is it real LBZ material for the price Puerhshop gets? I have been told that it cannot be but there is no proof that Puerhshop is lying about its origins. Alas, it is not possible to answer this question. The only real question I can answer is did I like this tea, overall, yes.

I steeped this tea ten times in a 140ml Ru Kiln Celadon teapot with 8.2g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse and let the leaves rest for ten minutes. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 min. I should also note that the leaves on this tea were still somewhat green and the color of the tea soup a dark yellow. It definitely needs to age a bit.

This is a delicious ripe from Yunnan Sourcing. It has a fair amount of fermentation flavor left. The early steeps were thick with it. I’d say it had fermentation flavor until around the fifth steep or so. It had a nice natural sweetness to it and little bitterness, only a little in the first couple of steeps. To be honest I didn’t notice much bitterness at all. I’m not sure if I should describe it as having a dates flavor but it had a nice sweetness.

This was a fairly strong tea and it was not finished even though I was. I think the leaves would have gone anywhere from two to five more steeps.

Taken over ten steeps I really liked this tea. Just on the first couple of steeps I didn’t like it. The first few steeps had a strong aged bitterness to them and a slight but noticeable sour note. This was the character of the tea for the first four steeps. By steep five the sour note had disappeared completely and the bitterness mitigated. The tea developed a nice sweetness to it that was not like the apricots or stonefruits of a young sheng. It was also not sweet in the sense of sugar, I don’t mean that sweet. I am at a bit of a loss to describe the sweet notes specifically. The tea had a very nice color to it in the early steeps, almost but not quite orange in color. Judging by the color of the tenth steep I would say this tea has a few steeps left in it if I had not had enough tea.

This tea is good. The only problem I had with this tea was I was using a new teapot that was supposed to be 100ml. The teapot turned out to be bigger, probably closer to 140ml. What would have been a good amount of tea for 100ml was not enough for 140ml. Still, the tea was good. It had a nice color to it. This was no yellow sheng but had a nice orange color to it. There was a fair amount of bitterness in the early steeps but not a young sheng bitterness if you know what I mean. It dramatically mellowed out over eight steeps. The next time I make this tea I will use more tea. The tea had a nice aged flavor to it, I’m not sure how to describe the specific notes but it was good. This is not a cheap tea. I think it goes for $30 for a tuo but it is worth the price.

Bought this quite a while ago and managed to forget about it without opening it. I am still trying to like green tea and I don’t always like it. I think this is a good quality tea. It is fresh tasting and vegetal in nature. It’s quite floral. Too floral for my tastes. I am not sure if I like sencha, I know many love it. I have always been more of a fan of black teas and do prefer puerh above all others.

I brewed this twice in a 12oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and 175 degree water. I steeped it for 1 min and 1.5 min.

This was a tasty tea and one of the rare mornings that I had time to brew gongfu style. I gave this teat four steeps in a 220ml gaiwan. I think it would have gone six or more. There was a fair amount of bitterness in the first two steeps. It largely went away by the third steep. It was gone by the fourth. There were a fair number of complex notes to this tea that I am not sure how to describe. A bit muscatel like a Darjeeling if I am making the right comparison. I may be off the mark here. There was a certain sweetness to this tea also, not a sugar sweetness mind you but a more subtle one. In any case it was tasty and good. I highly recommend this tea.

This is in my opinion another winner from Streetshop88 on EBay. It had a fair amount of fermentation flavor in the early steeps and a fair amount of bitterness. The bitterness was soon a memory and I was left with a delicious slightly sweet tea. This was a fairly strong tea but not incredibly so. I steeped it eight times and judging by the color of the eighth steep I’m sure it would have gone twelve or more. I don’t know if the words in the title “golden buds” means it has more buds than a usual puerh but it is tasty. I am not unhappy for having bought the bing. I did notice a very slight sour note in the first steep but I did not taste it again. It may have been my taste buds.

This is a tasty and interesting aged tea. It has not developed any particularly unpleasant flavors through its storage. The best way I can describe the flavor of this tea is burnt honey or sugar without the sweetness of honey or sugar. It has a somewhat raw aged taste initially. This flavor slowly turned into something more plesant. I really don’t know how to accurately describe this tea as it is the first true aged sheng I have drank. In color it looks like a shou to be honest but it definitely tastes like an aged sheng. It had none of the bitterness of a young aged sheng while in effect having its own sort of bitterness, does that make any sense. This was a tea I had little in the expectations for as I only paid something like $25 for 250g, cheap. This was definitely worth the price. I enjoyed it a lot. I can’t tell you how it compares to other 1990s sheng because I haven’t drank them. For the price involved I recommend this tea.

This tea is good. It is sweet with a lot of fermentation flavor in the early steeps. This is a quality tea. This is good because I have a lot of it. Its sweet flavor in the eighth steep is reminiscent of dates. It’s young to develop this flavor but it’s sweet in later steeps. There was little bitterness to this tea even in the early steeps.

I steeped this eight times in a 170ml teapot with 10g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse and steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 sec.

Bought a 25g sample of this with my last order to Yunnan Sourcing US. IT is described as having a licorice flavor. That is one interpretation but I feel it has more of a grape note to me, like a muscatel darjeeling tea. In any case its quite good, if expensive. It was $12 for the 25g sample although they were running a sale at the time. I only brewed this western style and it deserves gongfu but I’m on my way to work so no time.
