1758 Tasting Notes
Thany you to the generous Steepster friend who gave me this sample. This is good tea, excellent. There was just a little bitterness in the early steeps but just barely noticeable. It was sweet and smooth from the beginning. I steeped this twelve times and it showed no signs of giving out. This is no weak tea. This is among the smoothest puerhs I have ever drank.
I steeped this 12 times in a 120ml gaiwan with 5.7g leaf and 200 degree water. I steeped it for 10 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, 2 min, 2.5 min, 3 min, and 3.5 min. I still have the leaves in the gaiwan and may go back to them tomorrow.
Preparation
This is another tea from Teavana that doesn’t taste quite as good as it smells. It is decent though, not incredible by any means but reasonably good. Not good enough to buy again but I won’t just throw it out. The leaves look like tea, not like a little bit of tea with a lot of fruit bits like a lot of Teavana teas.
I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and 175 degree water for 2 min.
Flavors: Blueberry
Preparation
Strawberry is the dominant flavor here. You can see the chocolate chips in the blend but in flavor they are on the back burner. there is a slight espresso note too. It is good. I believe this is another one they are out of.
Brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and boiling water for 3 min.

Preparation
This tea is tasty with only a little fermentation flavor. That being said I was so tired I wasn’t paying attention to the various complex notes of this tea. There were many sweet notes but I totally failed to pin them down. I was unfortunately still tasting my dinner when I was drinking this tea, ah well. I was getting a salty note that I don’t think was the tea itself. The fermentation flavor was present in the first two steeps and was then pretty much gone.
I steeped this six times in a 170ml Yixing teapot with 8.6g leaf and boiling water. I steeped it for 10 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 30 sec, and 1 min.
Flavors: Earth, Sweet
Preparation
This is a very tasty tea. It has strong notes from the cashews and the raspberry, although the raspberry flavoring is not strong enough for my tastes. It melds well into the oolong background. It a dark oolong that looks more like a black tea in color of the dry leaves. It is a very heavy tea. I ordered four ounces of this tea and it looks like two. I don’t think the cashews in the blend will last as long as the tea so I am glad I didn’t get a pound.
I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 2 tsp leaf and 175 degree water for 4 min.
Flavors: Nutty, Raspberry
Preparation
This tea is very strong, both with a certain amount of bitterness and a fair amount of fermentation flavor. I really didn’t love this tea and I really didn’t hate it. Bought a bing a while ago so I will age it for a year and see if I like it more.
I brewed this five times in a 220ml gaiwan with 10g leaf and boiling water. I steeped it for 10 sec, 5 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, and 20 sec. This was a strong tea and I am sure I could have pushed it to ten steeps had I had the desire or the caffeine limit.
Preparation
This tea was part of my $50 Happy Bag. Figured I would try it today because it is caffeine free. It has an interesting flavor, an earthiness from the chamomile and a zesty flavor I presume from the Elderflower. This is not one I would have bought on purpose and I certainly won’t likely buy it again. I will have to try it at night and see if helps me sleep. I don’t hate it and I don’t love it.
They sent the tea bags of this. Brewed two tea bags in one large mug for 5 min.
Preparation
This is a good tea with strong notes of cherry, but there is also a slight sour note. I brewed this with boiling water, which is my standard for black tea. I am thinking next time try 190 degree water with this tea. It is still good, just a little disappointing.
I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and boiling water for 3 min.
Flavors: Cherry
Preparation
This tea is quite good. There is the strong flavor of peaches, I would argue frozen peaches actually. There is a slight, very slight sourness that reminds me of an icewine tea actually, but with peaches. This tea will become an evening regular for me and I will probably order again as good decaf is hard to find.
