drank Teatoxy Morning by Teatoxy

The first taste of this is the strong flavor of lemongrass. I am confused by the Steepster page saying this tea has Mate, it is clearly not on the ingredient list on the package. In any case the rooibos tea in this takes a back burner. I think despite that name being Teatoxy Morning this would be a good evening tea as it is caffeine free if the label is correct. If the label is wrong and it contains Mate it would be a good morning tea. Overall I like the flavor profile of this tea, although it could use a little less lemongrass. Other reviewers have mentioned a taste of Stevia, there is none on the label either. There are also notes of peppermint and hibiscus. It also has rose hips and apples, I don’t really taste those specifically. There is also a slight, very slight sour taste to this tea. Overall I like this tea.

I brewed this once in a 16oz mug with 3 tsp leaf and boiling water for 5 min.

Flavors: Hibiscus, Lemongrass

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML
Cheri

Someone may have misclicked. You could edit the page to remove the Mate….

Thank You Mr Mopar for this sample. This is excellent ripe puerh. It is very earthy and thick and sweet. It has a fair amount of fermentation flavor left. I definitely recommend it to anyone who can handle some fermentation flavor. It hasn’t developed dates notes yet but it is good. The earthy ones don’t seem to have developed those notes.

I steeped this five times in a 207ml Taiwan Clay Teapot with 9.5g leaf and boiling water. I steeped it for 10 sec, 5 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, and 20 sec. This is a strong tea and it didn’t need long steeps at all, short was good. There were earthy flavors throughout all five steeps. This is a tea I would consider buying eventually as it is available for a good price.

Bought a one ounce sample of this with my last order. This is particularly good. It brews up to a nice floral tasting cup with just a hint of bitterness, that characteristic oolong flavor that can be bitter. The dry leaves smell amazing on this tea, very floral. This is a tea I find myself wanting more of. Simpson and Vail does not get much press on Steepster but I am a big fan of their teas and especially their prices. Their teas may not be quite as good as Butiki, but their prices are far better. There teas may be half as good as Butiki but that is debatable. What is not debatable is that their prices are less than half that of Butiki. For good value priced tea Simpson and Vail is hard to beat. I have never gotten a true low quality tea from them and I have always gotten a good value.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 2.5 tsp leaf and 175 degree water for 2 min.

drank Caramel Apple by Butiki Teas

This tea is good, really good. Too bad there soon will be no more of it. The amount I bought should last me a year or so. The caramel taste is up front with the taste of apples behind it. There is no bitterness or astringency to this tea, it has the perfect base. This is really sweet tasting. I added sugar which really seems to accentuate the sweet flavors of this tea.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and 175 degree water for 3 min. The resulting brew was light colored, sweet smelling, and delicious.

This tea was really good, almost spectacular for the price, $8.99. This tea was well aged, it had almost no fermentation flavor, just a little in the second and third steeps. It had a little more fermentation flavor than my benchmark tea, the 2008 Song of Chi Tse, but not very much. It did not have as many complex notes as the Song of Chi Tse but it held its own with complex notes having the common dates or sweet notes common to ripe puerh. I will admit I was not paying that much attention to its complexities, and I added sugar so that intensified the sweet notes quite a bit but they were there none the less. The spent leaves had the aroma of dried cacao to a large extent. I will probably pick up two more of these the next time I order from Dragon Tea House. This is definitely worth adding on to your next Dragon Tea House order but may not be worthy of an order by itself. Despite how much I liked this brick, it is still a cheap brick, but then again Menghai Tea Factory does cheap bricks right. I steeped the hell out of this tea. Using a small amount of tea I got eight good steeps out of it. I think I would have gotten two more steeps in if I wanted more tea tonight. This tea definitely holds it own for the price.

I steeped this eight times in a 220 ml gaiwan with 9g leaf and boiling water. I steeped it for 15 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, 2 min, and 8 min. I dramatically increased the time for the eighth steep because the tea got a little weak in the seventh steep. If this tea was made of higher quality leaves it would be worth a 100% score, as it is I give it about a 93% score.

While it is impossible to know if the description of this tea is accurate, it is excellent. There is no bitterness to this tea and a slight sweetness. I ordered only 100g of this tea and wish I had ordered 500g. It is that good. I added a small amount of sugar to this tea and it brought out a nice dates or plums flavor to it. This is an excellent ripe puerh from Dragon Tea House.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and boiling water for 30 sec.

drank Oh Canada! by DAVIDsTEA

This tea is reasonably good. It is not incredible. The maple syrup flavor is fairly accurate but I think it is a combination of caramel, toffee, and natural and artificial flavor. Nowhere does the David’s Tea website list this as having any “Maple” in it. Still, its not bad, just not incredible like a good maple syrup. I can’t taste the rooibos in this and I like rooibos flavor. I just wish I had known there wasn’t any “Maple” in it when I bought it. I would have bought something else. Of the eight teas I bought from David’s Tea, one has been horrible, four have been great, two have been decect, and the eighth I have not yet gotten around to trying. If anyone wants to sample some of these teas in my cupboard from David’s Teas let me know, we can work out a swap.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 2.5 tsp leaf and boiling water for 5 min. One further note, the flavor of this tea seems to get less intense and better as it cools. Some teas are like that, don’t know why.

This tea is good, overall. I get notes of malt first followed by the baked bread and sugarcane. That being said it is too malty for my tastes. Being foremost a fan of Puerh I don’t like malt all that much, unless it is the rare chocolate malt taste, which this doesn’t have. It is still good though.

I brewed this tea once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and 200 degree water for 4 min. I would recommend this tea to drinkers who like malt flavor.

drank Calm Me Teatoxy by Teatoxy

This tea was a little sour, a little bitter and a little sweet. I wanted to try it to see if it had the relaxing qualities they said it had. It seems to have relaxed me a bit. I will know in the morning. If I have no trouble sleeping I will give it a high rating when I edit this post. This is not a tea I would drink without sugar, that much is for sure.

It seemed to help me sleep but I am not sure. I will give it a rating after the next time I drink it. The relaxing effect seemed to wear off quickly.

I am Allan. I live and work in Long Island, New York. I have been amassing a tea collection for nearly two years and have spent way too much money. I now try to buy mostly Puerh as I like it most and it lasts nearly forever. Black tea has a habit of going bad. If anyone is interested in tea swaps I am open to ideas and have quite a cupboard.
