drank Blueberry Wild Child by Tiesta Tea

Found this today at Bed, Bath, and Beyond where I also bought a Breville Tea Maker. I brewed this with the Breville. I clearly don’t know what I’m doing with the Breville. When I poured my cup I got tea all into the rest of the tea. I didn’t think you had to remove the basket to pour the tea but I must have been wrong or I didn’t latch the thing properly, not sure which. As to this tea, it’s a tasty herbal with blueberries as the main note. Not sure which of the other flavors I’m tasting.

I brewed about 6 tsp leaf with about a liter of water in my Breville tea maker for about 5 minutes. I think this tea will get made primarily iced though.

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 0 sec 6 tsp 34 OZ / 1000 ML

drank Maracuja Mango by DAVIDsTEA

Bought this to make it iced but am trying it hot today. It is relatively nice. The mango doesn’t completely drown out the black tea base. It has a nice sweet note to it from the mango.

I brewed this one time in a 16oz Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and 200 degree water for 3 minutes.

Flavors: Mango

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML

Drinking this again and noticing a fruity note to it again. This time I would say I could pin the note down to citrus of some sort. Strong enough of a note that I’d think they added something if I didn’t know better. It’s a nice tea overall.

drank Raspberry Balsamico by Teavana
1758 tasting notes

Bought this in a recent purchase to make as iced tea. It is an excellent cold brewed iced tea. It’s got a sweet taste from the raspberries and a sour taste from somewhere. By this I mean a good sour not a bad sour. I would definitely buy this again if I run out.

I steeped this overnight in a 68oz Iced Tea Jug with 8 tsp leaf.

Flavors: Pleasantly Sour, Raspberry, Sweet

Preparation
Iced 8 tsp 68 OZ / 2011 ML

drank Random Steepings by Various Artists

Today I’m drinking a black tea from Liquid Proust’s latest group buy. The tea was marked Nandi Hills Black but the thread calls it Monsoon Black. This is a nice tea. But it was in no way spectacular to me. It had notes of malt that were strong and notes of chocolate that were a little weaker. I steeped this Gongfu style and wonder if I would have had better results steeping it western style. In any case, there should be enough of the sample left for me to try an 8oz pot western style as I only used 6g for this. Don’t know when or if I will get around to this. I steeped this tea eight times and it seemed a little weak in the eighth steep. I don’t think I would have gotten more out of this one with the amount of tea I used. Overall I liked the tea but I have no plans to buy it.

I steeped this eight times in a 150ml gaiwan with 6g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 sec.

Flavors: Chocolate, Malt

Preparation
Boiling 6 g 5 OZ / 150 ML

I think I used a little too much leaf on this one, but it was still good. It had a fairly strong bitterness in the first few steeps. It slowly turned into more of a sweet note over twelve steeps. You might even argue apricots in this case but I am uncertain. It was though a very good tea. Next time I will try it with less leaf. I just kind of used what I happened to pry off. And although I was using a big gaiwan at 160ml, 12.8g was a little too much. For that gaiwan I think 9g or so would have been better. On the other hand I’m sure with this one I could go back for five or six more steeps if I wanted to. Overall I did like this tea.

I steeped this tea twelve times in a 160ml gaiwan with 12.8g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min.

This is a tasty tisane. But I think it will be better iced. I get a variety of notes, mainly strawberry but perhaps the rhubarb too. I think there is a creamy note too. I think this blend has yogurt in it.

This is a reasonably good tea with a lot of fermentation flavor let to it. It had notes on dark bittersweet chocolate in there. The bitterness gradually faded to a more sweet note. Overall this was good tea. It was very thick tea in the early infusions.

I steeped this tea ten times in a 150ml gaiwan with 13.2g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 min.

Preparation
Boiling 13 g 5 OZ / 150 ML

This is tasty in an odd sort of way. It definitely has a buttery or creamy note. I’m not entirely sure what is in it I just know it’s caffeine free so picked it now. I’m not entirely sure what to call the primary notes of this but I think it will be better iced.

Got this in the mail a few days ago. And unlike last time, they are no longer putting tape directly on tea cakes. They seem to have learned their lesson. This is good because they have been one of my favorite EBay shops for a while now. As to this tea. it was really quite good. It had a moderate amount of fermentation taste to it. That flavor was not of the unpleasant sort and certainly not fishy. It had partially cleared in the five years since it was produced. I wasn’t really paying too much attention to the specific notes but I would say there were probably some notes of chocolate in there. You could even argue that it developed a fruity taste in later steeps once the fermentation was complete history. Overall I have to rate this one quite high. Good fermentation taste, little bitterness and sweet notes. This is exactly what I look for in a five year old ripe in general. At least for a dry stored tea. There were really no unpleasant notes to this tea. Unfortunately, I think they are sold out. But who knows they might restock on this tea. It was very good over the twelve steeps I gave it.

I steeped this tea twelve times in a 150ml teapot with 12.4g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min. The tea was really about played out at twelve steeps but I might have gotten another two steeps with longer steep times.

I am Allan. I live and work in Long Island, New York. I have been amassing a tea collection for nearly two years and have spent way too much money. I now try to buy mostly Puerh as I like it most and it lasts nearly forever. Black tea has a habit of going bad. If anyone is interested in tea swaps I am open to ideas and have quite a cupboard.
