This is a very tasty black tea. It is really good but not what I would call spectacular. There are strong notes of malt and notes of chocolate in this tea. I steeped the hell out of this at twelve steeps. That’s quite a lot for a black tea. And it held up to all twelve steeps without getting too weak. It did of course weaken a little but that is to be expected. To anyone who is not in the club and want’s to buy this it is I think worth the price. I think he gets $17.50 for this if my memory serves me. At that price per 100g it is worth it. I doubt I would buy more but it is good to have the one. The writeup on this says it is smooth, that is also true. This was a very good tea, unless you compare it to something expensive from Whhispering Pines that is. It doesn’t hold up to that standard but is still pretty good.

I steeped this twelve times in a 150ml gaiwan with 8.2g leaf and boiling water. I steeped it for 10 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min.

It looks like this is a pressed black cake, not pu-er, is that correct?

bromeliaceae

Yes it is! Interesting…

AllanK

Yes black tea

Nicole

It sounds like something I need to put on my wishlist.

Thank you Teanami for the free sample. This was overall a good ripe. There was a certain amount of fermentation flavor. But that flavor was not horribly unpleasant and certainly not fishy. There was little bitterness to this tea. I really didn’t even notice any initially. There was a nice sweet note to this tea. Kind of fruity in nature towards the end of twelve steeps. Not entirely sure about any specific fruit to identify it with. This one didn’t seem particularly chocolaty in nature. It was overall a good tea though. This is one I would certainly consider buying if the price is not too high.

I steeped this tea twelve times in a 150ml gaiwan with 10g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min. I could have steeped it a few more times but was at my caffeine limit.

I looked up the price on this one and it is $165. At that price it is not worth buying. It was good, but not that good.

Bought this a few weeks ago from Puerhshop. This is an excellent tea. It was cheap too, only $8 for a 100g bing. This was slightly bittersweet at the start with a fair amount of fermentation flavor. The fermentation flavor was not of the unpleasant or fishy sort. It had clearly been properly fermented. I find that Puerhshop productions are usually good tea. They are not always spectacular but are good. This one was nice and sweet after a few steeps and not horribly bitter before that. There were some complex notes in there but I wasn’t really paying to close attention. I was just enjoying this tea. This is one for which I give Puerhshop high marks on.

I steeped this tea twelve times in a 150ml teapot with 11g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 445 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min. The leaves weren’t done at twelve. I could have gotten a few more steeps out of them but I was at my caffeine limit for today. This is definitely one I recommend if anyone is putting in an order to Puerhshop. At $8 it is a steal. They could have priced this one at $20 and I probably wouldn’t have complained.

Bought this a while ago with my Yunomi order and am just now getting around to trying it. It is pretty good overall. There is a note of malt. There is a note of spice under the tongue. I’m debating if I feel there is a note of chocolate. This is an excellent black tea. It only got western brewed this morning because I’m in a hurry today.

I brewed this one time in a 16oz Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and 200 degree water for 3 min.

This tea was quite good. It had a sweet note from the start. The note reminded me of the white nectarines I got from the store last week, but without the intense sweetness to it. This is one good tea. This one was not cheap, I forget what I paid. I think this was the most expensive tea I bought from Taiwan Sourcing this time around. I would definitely buy it again next harvest. I bought 75g so I am not likely to run out before they produce another harvest of the stuff.

I steeped this tea ten times in a 150ml gaiwan with 7g leaf and 190 degree water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 min. The tea was not finished but I have had a lot of tea this morning so I stopped.

I recently received many order of this tea and have not tried it yet. Glad to hear it’s a good one. Did it strike you as high in caffeine?

AllanK

Can’t say I noticed the caffeine either way. I stop caffeine early in the day due to insomnia. I had this one fairly early in the day.

I liked this tea. But I really failed to pin down the flavor notes in it. It was malty, somewhat bitter, and somewhat astringent. It also had some complex notes. I really didn’t pick them out. Today I have been going through some of the teas I bought from Taiwan Sourcing a couple of months ago now. This one was a good tea.

I steeped this tea eight times in a 150ml gaiwan with 7.7g leaf and boiling water. I steeped it for 10 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 sec. I could have kept going but I feel like drinking something else. The tea was not done at eight steeps.

I have a mixed reaction to this tea. It had its good points and its bad points. It had a note that I would describe as roasted chestnuts. It also had a note that was just plain a little flat with no other way I can think to describe it. For the price of it I’m not too disappointed. I think it was just over $20 for 150g. I will try cold brewing this one tomorrow and see what I get. I do think the flat note was not as strong in latter steeps.

I steeped this eight times in a 120ml gaiwan with 7.1g leaf and 190 degree water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 sec. Unless this turns out to be really good iced I probably wouldn’t buy this one again.

This is a very tasty shou with a moderate amount of fermentation flavor. The fermentation flavor is not unpleasant or fishy. There was little to no bitterness to this tea. This tea was mildly sweet from the start. Somewhere along the line it got listed as having a mushroom flavor. That is not out of the ballpark. This tea is quite good. This is one I am tempted to buy more of to age, we shall see. It’s good enough to warrant a tong of the stuff.

I steeped this tea twelve times in a 150ml yixing gaiwan with 10.1g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min. It was pretty much finished at twelve steeps but I think if I upped the time I could get a couple more steeps out of the leaves.

Thank you Angel for this free sample. Sorry it took me so long to get to it. This was an excellent tea. It started off somewhat bitter. This lasted about four steeps or so. Then it developed a nice sweet note to it. I am not sure if I should say apricots or stonefruits but it was good. Despite being ten years old it had yet to develop any aged flavors, good or bad. It had no storage tastes at all. It was very tasty. This is definitely one I would consider buying the next time I order with Teavivre.

I steeped 7.3g leaf in a 120ml gaiwan with 7.3g leaf. I steeped it twelve times. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min. There were definitely a few more steeps left but I figure I’ve had enough caffeine for today.

When I purchase earlier in the year the pre Qing Ming green teas I overpaid the transport costs. You just showed me how to use the credit. :-)

I am Allan. I live and work in Long Island, New York. I have been amassing a tea collection for nearly two years and have spent way too much money. I now try to buy mostly Puerh as I like it most and it lasts nearly forever. Black tea has a habit of going bad. If anyone is interested in tea swaps I am open to ideas and have quite a cupboard.
