111 Tasting Notes

White Tea from Golden Moon Tea
62

I’ve never had a unflavored white tea before and for some reason I was in the mood for my H & S white peach tea today. So I thought well I think I should be experimental and tried this white tea instead. Wow it’s a much fuller flavor than I would have expected and the nose to it isn’t very interesting kinda pollen smelling, which could be due to the chrysanthemums.

It’s a decent tea. Not something I think I’d crave but a nice cuppa. While I am not getting a ton of flavor I personally taste mostly buttery notes. It’s nice but it’s not going to be replacing my H&S white peach. :)

Irish Breakfast Tea - Special Reserve from Golden Moon Tea

I guess you know what dropped on my doorstep yesterday? Well if you guessed the GM sampler you’d be CORRECT! I decided to wait till this a.m. to try something and a pulled out all the breakfast blends as I’ve never had a tea that had breakfast at the end of the name it was between English Breakfast, French Breakfast, and Irish Breakfast. I picked (obviously Irish) and it really does hit the spot.

Dry leaf is green and golden tipped and the dry leaf just smells of tea. Steeped a cup for 5 minutes and I have a reddish golden cup what I think Jim Marks in one of his posts referred to as chestnut color.

Steeped it tastes like tea a very smooth cup with the tiniest hint of astringency. If this tea is what I would be served with my breakfast while in Ireland I wouldn’t complain. :)

Cherry Blossom from Teas Etc
60

I have to agree with Atacdad’s tasting notes on this one. dry this one smells great like cherries once brewed it tastes of cherries and cream. It’s not bad but it’s not as good as their Coconut Custard Rooibos!

Lemon Ginger Snap from Teas Etc
34

My Teas Etc. order came in today Yea! So this was the little sample I chose and I have to say it’s not very flavorful it has a slight lemony taste and mostly green tea flavor. The dry leaf smells wonderful reminiscent of a Luden’s Lemon cough drop.

Zingiber Ginger Coconut from Teavana
81

Backlogging: This is so yummy it’s so Amaretto tasting and I LOVE IT. It was a nice one especially after the horrible matcha experience I had earlier. Bumping this up a bit because I like it so much after the sample Lori sent that I went and bought more.

Pina Colada Honeybush from 52teas
70

Got this from AmazonV and I am so glad that she was generous enough to send me it as I’ve been dying to try it. Thanks AmazonV!:) I wasn’t too surprised by the dry look of the (bush?) heehee but the smell was amazingly good just like a pineapply, coconutty, pina colada smell so that was a good start then poured the water and let it steep and set the timer for 7 minutes. When the buzzer when off I was a bit surprised by the dark liquor in my cup and I have to say first off that I have tried about 5 other 52Teas blends and haven’t really cared for any of them now having said that I do have an order on the way because I really want to find something I like from 52Teas and this P.C. Honeybush maybe my first really enjoyable 52Teas experience. I cannot tell you what Honeybush tastes like as I’ve never had it plain but this blend is pretty good a nice tropical tasting cuppa!

Sorry guys but this one I find totally hard to describe, there’s not like alot going on here or anything its just very tropical and not in an extreme way in a good way! Way to go 52Teas and Muchos Gracias AmazonV!!

Strawberry Kiwi from Teavana
57

Totally agree with Meghann M’s review. It is surprisingly more tart than I expected and the cup looks beautiful it could be mistaken for a cup of cranberry juice (I am drinking it in a glass cup). The nose to it smells of what I think to be kiwi I’ve never had just plain kiwi so I can’t be sure of that. I can’t wait to try this one with a little sugar and iced! Yea and Thanks, Silvermage2000 for another wonderful sample!

Coconut Custard from Teas Etc
100

Okay, last time I tried this tea I was sick so I couldn’t review it properly. I have been asked by Lori what I thought about this tea (I could have sworn I had started a tasting note?) anyway Lori asked me just yesterday what I thought of this tea and I told her let me try it again (Even though I was sick the first time I tried it I thought it was good) so I wake up this morning to a 20% off coupon on Rooibos from Teas Etc.

What a timely coupon this rooibos is good!! While I don’t think … hmmm no I’ve never actually had coconut custard I have had many a coconut meringue pie and I would have to say this reminds me of coconut pie in that the rooibos plays back up and I would compare it to a crispy crust and the coconut flavoring is the coconut creme center NOM.

It’s good if you like coconut i’d recommend it and I know some of ya’ll are going to get a little mad but I like it better than GM’s Coconut Pouchong. Sorry but it’s just how I feel. :)

Gotta go and place my order at Tea’s Etc now!

Update: Okay so it’s no secret I love to have Teavana’s My Morning Mate almost every morning so today I added a little of Tea’s Etc Coconut Custard Rooibos and it only added to the smooth flavor of the mate I love to mix rooibos and mates!

Tropical Green Tea Pineapple from The Jade Teapot
57

Received this in a swap from silvermage2000. It’s dry leaf smells and looks lovely I brewed up some hot water and steeped it and completely forgot about it for I’d say about 5-7 minutes or more! I can’t believe it but it’s not bitter YEA I’ve never had another pineapple flavored tea so I don’t have much to compare it to but it is a nice cup. Very subtle.

Thanks Silvermage 2000!

Spring Cherry Green Tea from The Republic of Tea
71

This has a nice cherry after taste. Not a strong flavored tea but I don’t think you want your green tea to be too strong in flavor (my personal opinion).

Black Dragon Pearls from Adagio Teas
77

Thanks to Silvermage2000 sending me a generous sample of her Black Dragon Pearls I am finally getting to try this tea. For some strange reason I always forget to order a sample when I make my Adagio orders (maybe it’s my adhd) I don’t know. So I had to look up how many “pearls” to add to what amount of water and I decided on 10 ounces of boiling water to like 5 pearls. I tried smelling the dry leaf (pearl) and didn’t get much in the way of smell. When adding the boiling water the leaves quickly unfurl and now the liquor is starting to look very dark and I am starting to think that I added way too many pearls ugh I hate that!! The smell is alive now that it has been steeped and smells like most other black teas. The taste the first taste I get is smoky and I think I read another review that said cigarette tasting and while I smoked for several years of my young adult life I can honestly say I do get a familiar cigarette flavor I would define as tobacco flavor. I am not regretting adding so many pearls as I think this cup could give me a good caffeine kick in the ___ that I need to get to work. I think this tea is pretty good not bad at all Thanks Silvermage2000!

Zingiber Ginger Coconut from Teavana
81

I got this in a swap with Lori. Thanks Lori! Like JacquelineM mentioned this is totally like amaretto, Yea! I had a cup last night and this morning I mixed a little with my morning mate for a strong cup. It’s quite enjoyable but it is sweet so if your not into sweet rooibos you might not like this cuppa but the flavors are great I taste the coconut and a hint, a very slight hint of ginger I’m not picking up on the cardamom but I think I might also taste the apple. It’s a nice change! Thanks Lori and what a generous sample!

Update: I was watching TV and all of a sudden it hit me I need tea! I thought for a minute about it and said oh, oh, oh I want Zingiber Ginger Coconut because I wanted something that tasted like a desert and this is totally like and Amaretto flavored dessert YUM!

Dawn from The Simple Leaf

Nice smooth an enjoyable cuppa. Allergies really have me down today so I’ll have to come back and add a better tasting note when I feel better.

Update: Yummy, smooth and a great cup for anytime.

Rooibos Sweet Amore from Teavana
58

I mixed this (Rooibos Sweet Amore) with my morning mate both by Teavana. My morning mate is a staple around my house and for the past couple days I seem to be suffering with allergies (along with the rest of my household) so I thought to myself I better try to add some Rooibos into my tea so that I can see if I get any signs of allergy relief as rooibos is said to help fight allergies.

It’s actually not a bad combination of flavors but to be honest it’s not extraordinary either oh well (shrugs) at least I’ll get my rooibos in. It tastes like rooibos mixed with my morning mate. Sorry for the lack of taste description I’m stuffy and grouchy this a.m..

L'Oriental from Dammann Freres

I can agree with Lori’s tasting notes. This tea is very light in flavor, the smell of the dry leaf mix is heavenly very soft like a potpourri smell but not like yucky potpourri like a peach potpourri. Which makes since because the ingredients read green tea, passion fruit, bush peach and wild strawberry, pineapple bits and cornflower petals. It’s quite beautiful to look at. The taste is mildly astringent and while I do pick up on the fruit I think I mostly pick up on the peach and passionfruit I will have to try making this a few more times to see if I pick up on the pineapple which is what I really want to taste in here. Not bad wouldn’t buy the again but I don’t totally hate it. I LOVE the tin though:)

Shanti from The Simple Leaf
24

This some how came in with my order from the Simple leaf ? I don’t know if I ordered on accident or if they sent me a whole pouch as a sample I haven’t went back to check my C.C. bill yet. (Please don’t tell :) anyway it is just as the other reviews have so correctly stated a smoky flavored green tea. I don’t love it I don’t hate it but I for sure would not order it!

BTW the leaves are dark green and quite lovely.

Buttered Cinnamon Raisin Toast Flavored Black Tea from 52teas
81

Okay so I’ve now had this tea three times. I waited awhile to review it as I thought maybe this is the kinda tea blend that will grow on me. Sadly no it’s not growing on me I do enjoy the smell of the dry leaf but once steeped I don’t get raisin I get fig or plum? On my last sip I do get a little crisp toasty flavor so while I don’t get the butter flavor which maybe a good thing. I don’t totally hate this tea I can see while people do enjoy this tea and I think that the flavors are there I just prefer a stronger range of flavors in my tea. Unless I’m having a green or white tea of course. I’ll rate this one high up there for being spot on flavor wise but it is not something I personally would reorder.

My hubby and son say this tea smells just like Honduran tamales. Which would make since since one of the ingredients in a Honduran tamale is raisins. I know your thinking raisins in a tamale(?) LOL all I can say is it’s a tropical thing! You’d have to taste to understand.

Tie Guan Yin from The Jade Teapot
53

I got my sample in from the Jade Teapot and Thanks Steven for sending this to me! I am not sure about much of anything about this tea only that it come from The Jade Teapot and that he sent it to me out of the kindness of his heart. The reason I don’t know much about it is because it is a sample from China and the sample pouch it came in is written in Mandarin. While I do not read Mandarin I do know that it is Tie Guan Yin (Which I know to mean Iron Goddess of Mercy) and it’s an Oolong Tea!

It’s on the green forum of oolongs and the smell is like (and I can’t believe I am about to say this) but smells like hairspray! And not like the great smelling Salon Selectives (of the 80’s and 90’s) but sadly more like AquaNet :P ewww but surprisingly the taste is not bad!!

I love greener oolongs this one is very vegetal in flavor and leaves my palate with the slightest whisper of jasmine flavor. (Patting myself on the back for ordering that Jasmine oolong from Adagio sample) otherwise I would not have been able to place the jasmine flavor in this cup.

Thanks The Jade Teapot! Aquanet smell aside this is not a terrible cuppa! :)

BTW the packaging says “The Famous Tea of China”

Chocolate Mint Flavored Black Tea from 52teas
24

Okay so I received this as a gift from AmazonV thanks AmazonV!:) I don’t totally hate this tea it’s not something I would ever purchase to drink but it’s not disgusting either.

The smell when I opened the envelope was amazing but I know from 52Teas Chocomate that smells can be deceiving! So I proceed to steep it up following the directions and the result is a very dark liquor it’s quite nice looking the taste isn’t what I was expecting after reading others reviews comparing this to girl scout thin mints while I am more of a Caramel Delights kinda gal myself I thought what the heck!?!

The flavor allows you to still taste the tea base which is a plus (to me) but the chocolate and mint just don’t pack enough punch to balance out the black tea base.

While I am not a huge Adagio fan I would rather drink cocomint green tea by Adagio than this. Or H&S chocolate mint. I guess I am still on my quest to find a 52Teas tea that I adore. Thanks Again AmazonV! It’s not a total loss my son is enjoying it iced with milk, sweetener, and crushed ice.

Moorish Mint from Samovar
66
Strawberry from Adagio Teas

Nice aroma but (Bethanny is correct) the ceylon black base Adagio uses leaves something no not something ALOT to be desired. If they would just change the ceylon base their flavored blacks could be much more enjoyable. I won’t rate it yet since it seems some other reviews say 3 minutes instead of 4 minutes (I used 4 minutes) and see if that takes away the bitterness of the ceylon.

Malted ChocoMaté from 52teas
25

Okay so my first order from 52 Teas arrived and I rip it open and smell this wonderful deep dark chocolate Mate smell. I boil some hot water and let it go for about a 5 minute steep and to my surprise the liquor is not very dark in fact it is kinda ambery in color. I then take a whiff and I still get chocolate only not as much as post steep. I let it cool and take a sip and I get nothing! I mostly just taste hot water and a hint of chocolate flavor. If this is the case I’ll be sticking with Teavana’s My Morning Mate but I won’t give up on it just yet I’ll try some different steep times and maybe more Mate and see what happens I’ll wait till then to rate it to give it a fair shot.

Update: Giving this tea a second time this time going for seven minutes at the suggestion of some of my fellow steeps and I still get a hint of cocoa flavor but honestly nothing about this tea is WOWing me. :( I like big bold flavors unless of course I am drinking a white or green tea but otherwise I like big bold flavors and this just doesn’t do it. My rating on this tea is not because it’s bad but because it lacks flavor.

Coconut Pouchong from Golden Moon Tea
28

I just had this one Iced today I didn’t care much for it hot. I know it won best ICED tea so I kept that in mind and since it’s nice and sunny I decided to make a pitcher of this iced and wasn’t disappointed of course when I make iced tea I add sweetner (in this case agave nectar) and I enjoy this tea much more! Yea!!

Champagne Mojito Green from 52teas
49

Okay so today has been such a beautiful day here I finally got to throw on a pair of shorts! Yes I said SHORTS yea! So feeling the early onset of spring I thought to myself jeez I wish it were Friday already. Because if it were Friday I’d grill us some burgers for dinner but then I thought nope it’s only Thursday and my son has soccer practice tonight so that pretty much ruled out grilling burgers :( (Maybe tomorrow crossing my fingers).

So I then remembered that I got a lovely package in yesterday from my tea buddy MeghannM and that reminded me that she sent me some of this Champagne Mojito and so I quickly open the bag and was hit with mint hey if I can’t grill burgers I can at least enjoy a mojito (right?) anyway the spearmint smell is really great smelling, the taste I’m expecting to be strong like a mojito but it’s actually very soft more of a champagne with mint flavor than mojito I think I might have enjoyed this more if it were one or the other but the combination has my palate confused. While it is decent it’s not what I had hoped it to be. I will try the rest iced and see what happens. I unlike Meghann would have preferred a true Mojito. Thanks again for sharing it with me Meghann :)
