drank SBT: Maple Bacon by 52teas

I was a little wary of trying this one but….not bad. I can taste maple and bacon, a little less of the bacon. It’s still kind of throwing my mind that it’s a maple bacon iced tea so I don’t think this goes on my list of favorites though.

So, I kind of forgot to take out the bag and cold steeped this for like 3 days so I was worried it’d be too strong. Also the flavor I guess had settled to the bottom and looked a bit cloudy but it was normal after I shook it up a little. Flavor wise it was ok, tasted like a mild almond milk. Not the most flavorful SBT… not one I’m going to rebuy I think.

I like this one more than the Green Terrace Tea Milk Oolong sample I had but less than the Mandala Tea one. It had more milky, buttery flavor in the first steeping. By the 2nd steeping I was starting to get more vegetal flavor. I liked the first cup, it was creamy, mellow and not over powering. Glad I got to sample it since last box was my last box of a 3 month subscription.

Oh, I like this one. Smelling it, it smelled like the Honey Black… Maybe even more honey than the Honey Black. It tastes great, like a honey roll. Definitely getting a strong baked bread kind of flavor. Thank you Green Terrace Teas for the sample! Out of the 3, this one is my favorite.

My second sample from Green Terrace Teas and it’s very good. It’s tasty all by itself. A little fruit/raisin, some dark honey sweetness. The leaves in this, btw, HUGE and holds up to resteeps pretty well too.

Sample from Green Terrace Teas – Jin Xuan Milk Oolong:
This is my first sample from Green Terrace Teas, free for reviewing. :D I believe this is my second milk oolong I’ve ever tried. My first was Mandala Tea’s Milk Oolong which tasted very different to me than this one, most noticeably – the Mandala Tea one had strong creamy, coconut smell and taste. The Green Terrace Teas’ Milk Oolong simply smelled like oolong upon opening the sealed packet. I appreciate the well packaged sample, btw. The taste was good – not too floral (I don’t like strong floral taste) and it was smooth, not astringent at all, a little creamy but not much so. Thank you Green Terrace Teas!

I couldn’t find this blend in the database so I added it in so I could log it. I subscribed to Rip Van Wafels tea and wafel monthly subscription and this is in July’s box. Anyone have stroopwafel? That’s what the wafel is, individually packaged so it’s great – thin waffle cookie like thing with caramel. This is my fav subscription so far just because it comes with cookies :)

Description on the card says – “With its robust body and rich malty flavor, this Great Lakes Blend black tea from the Putuo Islands complements the Traditional Wafel’s spicy sweetness.” It really does pair well, the tea is strong, definitely black tea with a bakey aroma.

The Steepster community never ceases to amaze me! Thanks for posting your comments CK. We partnered with Rip Van Wafels before we “officially” launched our tea bag. So, you have been lucky enough to taste this tea before we even officially let it go into the world. In fact, just yesterday we finally found time to photograph the box and tea to put on our website. Thank you for your diligence in posting the tea to Steepster. I hope you enjoyed it. Mahalo and cheers, Joe

Haha, Thanks! I am lucky and def enjoying your tea. Hope you partner up again :)

drank Pomegranate Oolong by Harney & Sons

I went with my sister to her friend’s wedding and while we were in Honolulu, we went to the Kahala Resort & Hotel for afternoon tea at The Veranda. It was nice, we were seated outside and had a really good view of the beach side and dolphin pools so that was entertaining. I had the pomegranate oolong and it was good. A little fruity and tart but went well with the little sandwiches and desserts. Our service was good, they were out of the Hamakua Springs Farm Mushroom Turnover so we were sad because it’s what my sister wanted to try but then our waitress said they could make them if we were willing to wait. It was really good. My favorite was the Blue Hawaii Macaroon though. I was hoping they’d have a bigger selection of tea but I’m happy I got the pomegranate oolong. I looked it for it when we went shopping but luckily didn’t find it… Haha.

Wow, I can see why this tea gets great reviews! It’s like I added coconut milk to some nice oolong. And it’s an oolong that isn’t too floral or vegetal for me. The creamy coconut smell and taste is mmmm. I’m happy to have finally tried Mandala Tea, definitely worth it.

This tea is pure awesomeness!

Hello! I am loving reading tasting notes and discovering a whole world of teas. My favorite type is definitely black teas. I prefer flavored, dessert types. I love sample sizes so I can try a little of each and have had fun swaps :). My bank account has been crying since I found steepster but I’m trying to exercise (find) some restraint and it helps that I know I’m not alone lol.
