3/5 ESP Emporium Teas

I tried this twice before reviewing and rating. I really wanted to like it. I did. But I’ve had similarly flavored teas that were much better. It’s like the difference tasted between a Hershey’s kiss and a Lindt truffle.

I tried this sans additions and it wasn’t very flavorful. It pretty much requires milk and sugar. But the overall flavor is like plastic infused chocolate. It’s slightly chalky too. Definitely not milky, creamy, mocha goodness.

The tea base is really weak, and I had even doubled the recommended leaf amount. The brew is very light brown, almost muddy brown. There’s a bit of oil and scum from the artificial additives. I tried a second steep too, and the chocolate was much quieter. It was mostly weak tea with coconut, even though I steeped it for about 8 minutes. Maybe it’s just the fact that they’re artificial flavors that makes me not like this? I’m not sure.

It’s not bad tea that I would turn down, just like I wouldn’t turn down a Hershey’s bar if I really wanted chocolate. But would I seek this out over another chocolate bar? Probably not. I’d probably go out of my way to get the Lindt because I’d enjoy that more. That’s exactly the way I feel about this tea. It’s good and I’ll drink it. But I won’t re-stock it.

It was pretty cheap though, so no complaints there. I’m open to swapping it if anyone is interested. I know others have enjoyed this much more than me.

Hahaha! Well, don’t let me sway you before you even try it! Like I said, many people really enjoy this tea. You could be one of them!

Indeed and I shall try it :)

Ha, I like your Hershey vs. Lindt analogy. What would you say are Lindt truffle-esque quality teas?

Lindt is creamier and has a better, more solid, richer chocolate taste. In my opinion, Hershey bars (and this Bon Bon tea) taste thin and plastic-y instead of rich and creamy.

But are there any teas you would say are Lindt quality? Like, if this is like the tea version of Hershey so-to-speak, then what would you say is like a tea version of Lindt? I also don’t care for Hershey. Waxy and just wrong. Totally love Lindt though! I visited a Lindt store when I was in Switzerland.

Oooh, Switzerland!! Sounds like fun! I’d say DAVIDsTEA Love Tea #7 is Lindt quality. 52teas makes some great chocolate teas too.

Ah, I tried DT’s so long ago, I totally forgot what it even tastes like. I don’t know, I like the concept of a chocolate tea, but they’re so hit and miss. :)

I would suggest butiki raspberry truffle!

Entering the sweet blissful world of tea aromas!

Having discovered this website at the end of July 2011, I’m so excited to share my tea adventures with all of you! I grew up with my grandmother serving Twining’s English Breakfast with cream and sugar.

But on a trip to Seattle in 2010, I stumbled into a Chinese teashop and tried my first oolong tea. I was forever changed! I embarked on a startling new love for green and white teas.

With a world of teas to discover, I was inspired to keep a tea journal to record my thoughts and new favorites. Let’s get brewing!

My ratings are completely subjective and 100% my opinion. All ratings are given in relation to each other (ie. teas are rated in the order of my enjoyment of them). Therefore, my ratings will constantly change as I try more teas.

I love swapping!!! If you see something in my cupboard you’d like to try, just send me a message. If you’d like to trade, anything on my shopping list will do or feel free to send something else entirely. I’m willing to try almost anything (although I’m not really a fan of red rooibos, honeybush, pu’er, Lapsang Souchong, & banana-flavored teas).
