Organic Matcha Cermonial from LeafSpa Organic Tea

I can almost feel the plant sterols melting away my cholesterol… Ok, well maybe not, maybe Matcha OJ is just that yummy=D

Mayan Chocolate Chai from 52teas

Hadda get up at 5:30am to go to the bathroom (Dang chai at 9pm)… came back to find my dog hijacked my bed so I had to lay cross ways on my bed. Surprised I was even able to sleep, but I layed there for 4 hrs. I need something to wake me up and ward off possible pain that may result from my contortion. So I steeped 1tsp in coffee. HOT! Complex. Rich. Not so chocolatey. YUMMY!

Rewarding myself for reaching (upon completion of this) my tea/liquid consumption goal for the day. YUM!

Cranberry Matcha from 52teas

1tsp/8oz water. Why can I not get the cranberry when I drink it plain, but I can when I put it w/ OJ?! It makes no sense and is really frustrating. :(

Heartwise Matcha OJ! I need to get some green olives and vodka for a matcha screwdriver.

Spiced Orange from Zoomdweebie's Tea Bar

Dang it’s cold! A hot bath didn’t even help. Drank an 8oz cuppa of this hot. WOW cinnamon is definitely there… a bit of orange, wish it was stronger. Not sure I like cinnamon only spice teas… Chais are more my thing. Rating goes up for accuracy though.

Last 40oz of my gallon. It’s actually cold in the house today- high only of 72 predicted today. The 4 cups of hot tea I have planned for today will go really good!

Mayan Chocolate Chai from 52teas

Taking a break from my orange spiced iced tea to have this. 16oz cuppa. 1TB tea, cup each water and Smart Balance milk. Yum! Over half done w/ my liquid intake for the day and done w/ my plant sterols. Yum! Who ever knew plant sterols could be so yummy?

Gonna down 40oz of this cold today.

Matcha serving #1 of the day: Heartwise Matcha OJ… why must something so yummy look so nasty?

Cranberry Matcha from 52teas

Time for Matcha: Round OJ=D

1tsp matcha/8oz Minute Maid Heartwise OJ, James Bond style.

WHOA! There’s the cranberry! What is it about OJ making flavored matchas pop? This definitely gives me hope w/ this one and I can’t figure out why I couldn’t taste the cranberry this strong w/ just water. Preliminary rating- expect it to go up!

CLEARANCE BOX TEA 4/20:

Made a gallon of this and have drank 48oz of it today. The raw leaf smells mostly of a sweeter black tea w/ faint hints of artifical orange and cinnamon notes.

7TB plus 1tsp tea
8oz just below boiling water
120oz cold water

Well this is definitely one tea you don’t need to worry about the cinnamon getting bratty. While stronger than the orange slightly, both are over powered by the sweet black tea base. I was going to suggest an Orange Mayan Chocolate Chai, but the flavors have got to be stronger.

Apple Matcha from 52teas
20

It took forever, but finally trying the last 52teas matcha!

Whoa, there are a lot of very large clumps in this one- I hope it whisks well. The dry powder definitely smells like matcha and apple.

Same ratio as the other 2: 3 scoops/8oz water.

Hmmm… the flavor is almost completely matcha- there is a faint appleish sweetness, but I think it’s so faint I wouldn’t be able to point it out if I didn’t know it was there… I’m not getting the apple matcha LiberTEAS did and that makes me sad.

Winner for personal preference goes to cranberry, and accurracy goes to banana. What’s next Frank?

Wow… what a week! It was a wonderful week, but it’s nice to be able to sleep past 6:30am again. I was so busy, I didn’t even take time to make iced tea- and didn’t even have matcha every day! I had a family reunion Sat. after I came home so I didn’t take time to drink tea til yesterday afternoon. 1tsp in 1 cup of Minute Maid Heartwise OJ, James Bond style. My favorite way to have cold matcha!

Celebrating Indian Independence Day w/ a 16oz mug of this!:) This’ll be my last tasting note til Sat. Going out of town to watch an Extreme Makeover Home Edition build.

Banana Matcha from 52teas
99

Ok, so this is the matcha that concerned me most. I don’t like ANYTHING banana flavored other than actual bananas… but this was Lori’s 1st matcha experience yesterday so I decided to go for it.

The matcha smells exactly like banana runts. Blech. But accurate so I’ll go w/ it. In spite of my chalky matcha yesterday, I decided to make this using the same ratios: 3 scoops:8oz water.

Froths very easily! And still smells very much like banana runts. OK, here goes nothing…

Yep. Tastes exactly like runts. There’s also a slightly vegtal quality from the matcha. And it’s not chalky! :) -1 for tasting like banana candy vs. the fruit. But still pretty spot on.

Beer Tea from Man Teas

3rd infusion- other than a bit lighter, virtually the same as #2.

Beer Tea from Man Teas

Still working on infusion 2, but I just had to say it goes REALLY well w/ mac ‘n’ cheese!

Cranberry Matcha from 52teas

This (and the other 2 new matchas) came yesterday! Unfortunately it was too disgustingly hot to get mail yesterday so I ran out this morning. Went for this one 1st since it has the highest chances of me loving it- and it’s the one that hasn’t been reviewed yet.

This smells like cranberry sweet tarts… yum!

3 scoops/8oz hot water.

What a lovely foam! I’m getting good at this:) Hmmm… the cranberry is much lighter than expected… barely there and more in the after taste. But then again I think I made it too thick, the texture was a bit chalky and it made my stomach a little funky. I’ll try it a bit thinner then rate:)

I hope my best friend gets hers soon!:)

Beer Tea from Man Teas

In the process of drinking the 2nd infusion. The astringency is still there, but much lighter. A much more juicy cuppa!

Beer Tea from Man Teas

I GET THIS NOW! I drank 32oz of this cold and I’m TOTALLY getting (or maybe more accurately understanding) the beer flavor and mouth feel now!!! It hit me like a ton of bricks when I took my 1st sip. I’m gonna see if I can get 12 infusions out of this cold like I did hot. While it’s not something I’d reach for every time I want cold tea- this is definitely my new favorite black cold tea… which makes sense cuz this is my favorite non chai or dessert flavored hot tea.

Powdered Sencha from Rishi Tea
16

Cut the water in half and added a tsp of lemon juice. Still not strong… and I’m STILL getting that roasted flavor… either this is some screwed up sencha, I’m screwed up, or I screwed up my jug w/ the Gen Mai Cha. Gotta bump the rating down.

Are you a company or tea blender on sites like Adagio that would you like your tea reviewed? If so, please e-mail me @ SMSchneider@live.com.

What I most enjoy from obtaining samples from companies to review is that it helps me to better learn to drink and review teas from a more objective perspective, meaning more of the “This tea is…” point of view rather than the “I like/don’t like” this tea. I feel objectivism in tea reviews is EXTREMELY important because no two tea drinkers tastes are exactly the same. I’ve also been extremely surprised by several teas. I love recieving a sample I think I will be only writing an objective review on, only to completely fall in love with it upon tasting it.

Tea tastes:
I will ALWAYS pick loose leaf over tea bags. I only drink bagged tea if that’s my only choice or I find a flavor that I can’t find a loose leaf version for. When I do drink bagged; however, I always weigh my bag and am constantly curious as to the weight/flavor ratio- sometimes I am quite surprised by the flavor punch of light bags.

I have a preference for organic and fair trade teas (preferably both), but would never pass up an amzing tea just because it isn’t organic and/or fair trade.

I love savory teas.

I’m currently searching for a chai flavored soy powder or a soy based chai mix (either already mixed or a recipe).

I hardly EVER sweeten my teas. I feel that sweeteners (unless flavored like tea honeys, brown sugar, ice cream topping syrups, flavored coffee syrups, etc) do not add anything to the flavor profile of tea- in fact, I’ve found that they dumb down the flavors.

I NEVER serve my tea over regular iced cubes- I always make tea cubes.

I LOVE cooking w/ tea and making smoothTEAS.

I LOVE tea blending.

I rarely drink herbal teas unless they are mixed with true teas. My favorite herbals to mix with true teas are: spearmint, peppermint, lemongrass, rose hips, and gingeroot.

I can’t stand anything w/ fennel or anise. Hot black teas (except orange pekoe bagged tea that you get when you go out to eat and chai teas) tend to upset my stomach.

I drink matcha daily and love flavoring it. I’m also in a constant search of preflavored matchas.

I’m constantly searching for information on how to prepare tea authentically according to its country of origin.

My Tasting Notes Ratings (edited 8/8/10)
1: I can’t even stand the raw leaf enough to make this (I’ve never owned a tea w/ this rating, but I’ve smelled some before buying resulting in me NOT buying them that were that bad)

2: I steeped this tea but couldn’t stand the aroma enough to get it past my nose

3: I immediately gagged at the 1st sip and spit it out.

4: I manageed to get the 1st sip down, but I tossed the rest.

5: I drank the 1st cup but I can’t bring myself to resteep

6: Made it thru the entire set of infusions but I can’t bring myself to tinker w/ the parameters and won’t be making it again.

7-10: Does not taste anything like the ingredients or name suggests (i.e. Adagio’s Sour apple)

11-25: I can taste some of the ingredients, but the flavor is severely lacking

25-49: Teas that I would not consider bad in their flavor profile, but certainly below average

50: Average.

51-69: Teas above averge, but I wouldn’t go as far as calling them “good”.

70-75: Very good, but still room for improvement

76-85: Above average flavor profile

86-90: REALLY good flavors

91-99: Almost PERFECTLY achieves the goal of the ingredients and name of the tea.

100: Abosolutely perfect teas!

Other Interests: GOD! and all things pertaining to Him and His children, my dog Madison, travelling, and coffee.

Favorite Music: ANYTHING Christian. I don’t normally listen to secular music, but I do love jazz and swing.

Favorite Books: THE BIBLE!!! & My Sister’s Keeper

Favorite Quotes: “A sad soul can kill you far quicker than a germ”- John Stienbeck "

Criticism is something we can avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing”- Aristotle
