687 Tasting Notes
I originally made Hattialli Golden Paw this morning, but all I was getting was smoke. I quickly read the description and notes and saw no mention of smoke. I had a horrid sleep filled with nightmares of my upcoming spring class, and I have an exam this morning, so I dumped that and made this one.
I knew this awesome tea would both refresh and comfort. The combination of orange, chocolate, and marshmallow is amazing. I can’t believe I only just tried this. I already added a bunch to my Butiki cart online because this will be a cupboard staple.
P.S. My wellies left Germany yesterday, hit 4 US cities yesterday, arrived in Calgary this morning and are already out for delivery. So excited!
My sipdowns may have been slowed up by receiving my Butiki order today, which was awesome. My sipdown tally for today includes:
French Vanilla matcha
Divine Temptation (just until I pick up more next week!)
and 3 samples (Good Feeling, Mind Palace, and Tamarind Pop)
Tomorrow I have an exam, so I won’t be in the house for half the day at least. We shall see what sort of sipdowns I can manage.
P.S. It’s raining! I wait all year for the one month it rains here, and my wellies are scheduled to arrive tomorrow! Perfection.
This is wonderfully light and lemon-y. Dry this smelled strongly of some sort of lemon candy, which was just fine by me. It still smells nearly as strong steeped, but more lemon less candy. Slightly. The taste is less strong in the lemon department, but that isn’t to say it isn’t apparent. It is. There’s also a creamy quality here.
Creamy lemon goodness. Yes. This one gets the seal of approval.
I love Stacy’s flavoured whites – Cantaloupe & Cream, Watermelon Xylophone, and now this one. I occasionally rotate one of them into my cupboard, so this one shall go into that rotation.
I don’t know what a tamarind is, but I expected some sort of fruity concoction, which made me a little wary. I have to say, I’m pleasantly surprised. This tea is actually caramel-y, sweetened caramel actually. And very smooth. With a extremely subtle tangy quality. But true to Butiki style, very natural and therefore the sweetness isn’t bothering me. I’m not really sure what else to say about this one. If you haven’t tried it, you should!
This is another sample sipdown!
Butiki is here, Butiki is here!
This one came in an awesome wee tin, and therefore it was the easiest to pop open for a sniff. Well, the scent settled it. This was the first tea to try.
I’m really enjoying it. The orange is more subtle in taste than in scent, but it’s unmistakably there. The chocolate tastes like dark, dark chocolate which is wonderful. And the marshmallow seems to provide a subtle creaminess to the whole experience. There is a sweetness here but the darkness of the chocolate keeps it from being sweet. Delightful.
I see the recommendations mention sugar is also awesome, so I’ll have to try that next time.
Stacy is there a specific reason this one comes in a tin?
I’m close to a sipdown here, but I haven’t anticipated clearing this one out before I leave. Partly because I drink it very rarely, and partly because we’re planning to go to California in August, so I have a few months before I can get more.
This tea embodies brioche perfectly. Liquidized brioche.
Also it’s 6am and it was one of those morning where I had to get up the second the alarm went off. Does anyone else get an upset stomach when they have to get up and start moving so quickly? I always do, bleh. Hopefully that will pass quickly.
I’m just finishing up a cup of Grandma’s Pumpkin Pie now. My tally for today includes sipdowns of:
French Butter Cookie matcha
SBT: Honey Ginger
Irish Cream Cheesecake
Grandma’s Pumpkin Pie
and 3 swap samples (The des Alizes, Pomegranate Sarsaparilla, and Pu Erh Gourmand)
I am happy with that progress.
I don’t know about these pu’erh teas guys. I try to be open-minded, but once they’re steeped, the pue’erh scent just turns my stomach. Regardless, I power through because sometimes that strong scent doesn’t come through as strongly in the taste.
Unfortunately for this tea, it did. I just couldn’t get past the pu’erh-ness.
Thanks for the sample VariaTEA!
But on the upside, I just finished a sipdown of French Butter Cookie in matcha milk, and this one is a sample sipdown.
MirandaGou sent me this one. Thanks!
This is my first SBT. I made it according to directions. Well, I boiled 2 qts of water than allowed the tea bag to steep in said water for 3 minutes. It’s been sitting in the fridge the majority of the day and I just poured myself a mug with ice cubes.
I’m not generally enamoured with 52Teas, but Ive heard good things about the SBTs and I’m happy to say I’m enjoying this. The flavours aren’t in-your-face, but they complement each other well. The ginger is subtle and the honey a bit stronger but both are there, albeit subtle with the black tea base.
Now I have a pitcher of this in my fridge, but that’s one less envelope of tea in my swap-in box!
Edit: I just checked the tracking and my wellies just updated and they are now sheduled for EARLY delivery!
