696 Tasting Notes
I woke up before the sun (4:45am) this morning to look over my notes a bit more before my exam today.
This is such a great morning tea. Well, it’s great anytime, but not every tea works in the morning. The chocolate and barley is my favourite. So unique. I also decided on this one as a wee celebration because the tracking tells me my new stash of LB will be delivered today (instead of Monday), yay! I’m not completely out yet, but it’s nice that I can unpack it and place it in my cupboard before we leave.
In a few short hours, six more courses will be behind me. YES.
I drank a lot of tea today. My mouth was kind of tired of it honestly. So I brushed and flossed my teeth, ate dinner, drank a litre of water, then made a cup of Japon. My cup before dinner should have been tasty but I was so tired of tea at that point it wasn’t. Now we’re back to tasty.
Yes! Japon and I will now get back to studying. I have zero motivation, but my exam tomorrow is worth 45%. DELIGHTFUL.
I don’t anticipate any more sipdowns today/I’m quickly running out of sipdown-able teas. My tally for today includes:
Cheesecake matcha (sneakily swapped out to Stephanie)
Bavarian Cream matcha
and 2 samples (Rhubarb Green and Rhubarb Vanilla)
Tomorrow is my last day for sipdowns before we leave early, early Saturday morning (early means essentially middle of the night). I could possibly sipdown Caramel matcha before then, and if I continue drinking Three Friends at the same alarming rate, that one is also a real sipdown possibility.
Now this is what I’m talking about. I just got settled in for a day full of studying for my one last exam tomorrow, and this tea is perfection. The chocolate notes never cease to amaze me. I’m so happy to have a cupboard full of Butiki teas again (note to self: never go so long between orders again).
Also, I just placed an AE order and I ended up saving just as much as I spent. Best.
The smoke is still coming through clearly. Even before I sip it, I can smell the smokiness. I’m fairly sensitive to smoke, but not a single note mentions smoke as of yet. Le sigh.
The few sips I did have were smooth and had that lovely Assam maltiness, which was delightful.
Thank goodness Stacy has plenty of other amazing teas. :)
P.S. I managed 2 samples sipdowns yesterday (Glenburn Estate Darjeeling and Caramel Popcorn matcha.
MY WELLIES ARE HERE! I went out to check the mail 15 minutes ago, and they weren’t here and it was NOT raining. Then, not 5 minutes later I heard the UPS truck pull up and I flew outside and it was raining and they had arrived!
I’m going outside to play in the rain in my new wellies!
Oh, and this tea is awesome.
Ahh Butiki. Always comes through for me. I think I need to come up with a vocabularly to describe Darjeelings. At least the first flushes, I have a feeling, are going to become a bigger part of my life.
This is an awesome tea. It still amazes me that a black tea steeps up so light. It’s very smooth and a bit thicker in consistency, like a black tea, except it doesn’t look like a black tea. There seems to be maybe a subtle hay component? Also subtle fruits that I can’t quite nail down. There’s also an awesome sweetness in scent that comes through clearly in the taste.
I want to test out the few other first flush Darjeelings from Butiki, then I will decide which is best for my cupboard. This one is nothing short of delicious though.
This is another sample sipdown too.
Sadly, this one I didn’t enjoy. I tried it both as a hot milk matcha latte and a cold matcha milk to no avail. The flavours upset my stomach. I’m not a huge fan of popcorn as it is, so perhaps that played a part. I’m not sure I could completely differentiate the flavours, but it struck me as more super sweet, borderline ‘burnt’ caramel/butter mix.
Thanks for the sample VariaTEA! Another matcha to leave for those who do love it in the future. :)
This is a sample sipdown too, the first one of the day eep.
I originally made Hattialli Golden Paw this morning, but all I was getting was smoke. I quickly read the description and notes and saw no mention of smoke. I had a horrid sleep filled with nightmares of my upcoming spring class, and I have an exam this morning, so I dumped that and made this one.
I knew this awesome tea would both refresh and comfort. The combination of orange, chocolate, and marshmallow is amazing. I can’t believe I only just tried this. I already added a bunch to my Butiki cart online because this will be a cupboard staple.
P.S. My wellies left Germany yesterday, hit 4 US cities yesterday, arrived in Calgary this morning and are already out for delivery. So excited!
