1443 Tasting Notes

Wow I could smell this steeping from the next room. And it smelled amazing!

The apple is subtle, but there, and it’s just so cake-y tasting. This is a great dessert tea. Hmm I may have to contemplate an S&V order.

Also, it gets even better as it cools. I am thrilled I got to taste this one. Delicious!

I clocked six extra hours in the lab today. Delightful.

This is actually my third steep because the first two I took in my Timolino to school with me. I didn’t end up drinking them, because I still can’t seem to get the soapy taste out of my mug. Bleh.

This steep is quite tasty. The tea is smooth and has a natural sweetness to it that’s just lovely. I can perhaps get hints of the pecan and oak, but I’ll have to pay close attention to the initial steep on subsequent cups for the citrus and peach notes. An enjoyable cup for the afternoon :)

YOU GUYS OMG MY BUTIKI ORDER ARRIVED! I watched, and watched, and watched the tracking, until my order finally arrived today. Such an awesome end of the day treat! ALL THE TEAS!

Initially I was overwhelmed. Which tea do I try first? So many choices! Then it hit me – of course the Pumpkin Milkshake. Of course.

The pumpkin is so amazing in this tea. It’s so clearly there. Right there. And yet it’s not overpowering or fake at all. No surprise, really. I never cease to be amazed with Butiki (I’m quite sure I say that on every Butiki tea note I’ve written). The vanilla is there, subtly, and the cream flavour always mystifies me in teas. It’s so wonderful, but how do they get a cream flavour? How! I can also taste the caramel notes, just lingering there in the background.

I am really looking forward to resteeps of this lovely.

I’m waiting on this to cool and it smells almost reminiscent of root beer, faintly, but it’s definitely there. Now if only it would cool faster so I could actually taste it.

I actually enjoy the black base Kusmi uses. I do have to be in the right mood for it, because it is quite strong, but it’s not offensive like some I’ve tried. I can taste the vanilla here, though it isn’t very apparent, and perhaps that’s because of the strong base. I will certainly enjoy the rest of this cup while I study.

I was slightly wary when this brewed up that hibiscus deep red, but it’s actually quite tasty. The hibiscus is clearly there, but it’s not overwhelming at all, which I’m finding so bizarre. Perhaps it’s the vanilla and almond toning it down. Either way I’m really enjoying this tea. So much so that I may have opened the Tealish website and added $50 worth of tea to my cart…

I’m actually finding this one enjoyable. I wouldn’t order it for myself, but that I can make it through an entire cup of rooibos is saying something! I’m thinking it’s because it has green rooibos, which I don’t find nearly as offensive as it’s red sibling (cousin?).

The more I drink, the more impressed I actually am with this tea. I’m definitely getting the kiwi and apple in the flavours, and perhaps a hint of strawberry. I’ve no idea what mistletoe tastes like, but I just like the idea of it being in there haha!

This tea is pretty tasty, although I don’t think I steeped it quite long enough. I feel that it could be more flavourful, but I’m sure that was my mistake. Thank goodness I put this one in my Butiki order :P

The strawberry is definitely there, along with a hint of ginger. I’m not quite sure I’m getting toffee, but it could be the improper steeping time. Once I’ve managed to steep this correctly, I’d also like to try it with the added brown crystal sugar. Stacy always has the best suggestions.

This was my choice for my Timolino this morning. It was pretty tasty. Tasty enough that I finished it in my first class and now I’ll be tealess until 7pm. Bleh for that. I was quite happy with the flavouring in this one. The rhubarb was clearly there and the edge of the tartness was taken off by the strawberry flavour. I always love when the base doesn’t overpower the flavours, and this base seemed perfect.

Haha I know! Being at school doesn’t really lend itself well to attempting to make my own tea. Buying it from someplace on campus is just a waste of money and I’m never quite happy with it. I’ll have to make up for it when I eventually make it home.

What if you brought your own tea bags (filled with loose leaf)? When I was a student I had a few places on campus where I could just get hot water and they didn’t mind.

I should do that :) There’s a Good Earth here and perhaps they’d give me some hot water. I’d probably be best bringing sturdy teas for that, but awesome idea.

I decided to have this one to clear my mind so I can concentrate on a write-up I’m doing tonight for histology. I may have left it to the last minute.

I wasn’t completely sold on the dry scent, I’ll be honest. The steeped tea seems much more pleasant. It’s certainly not something I’d buy for myself, but I will be happy finishing off this tin. Also, the tins are adorable! The peppermint comes through clearly, along with a slightly less powerful taste of verbena (I believe?) and perhaps a subtle hint of liquorice. It’s actually quite a nice herbal, though I’d have to be in the mood to have it – but that’s true of a lot of peppermint teas.

I did add this into my Butiki order on the weekend, but this cup today came in the mail from Cavovorax :)

I was actually in the field today for my 8am lab. It was a chilly morning and after 3 hours of standing outside in 6 degree temperatures, mostly stationary, identifying plants and grasses, it was so, so nice to get back on campus and have this hot tea waiting in my Timolino.

I had tried this one quickly before and it was good, because all Butiki teas are, but not quite what I was thinking it would be. This time around, similar to Ruby Pie, it seems to be working out much better. The base is so lovely and comforting, and the somewhat subtle caramel and vanilla seem to pair perfectly. This is much better than the few caramel or vanilla teas I’ve tried thus far. I may play around with this one a bit more once I get my order to see what all this tea can do.

Haha yes I feel it could be made to be so much more! Do you ever add anything? I do rarely add anything to my teas.

I really enjoy this tea with some cream and sugar—honestly, it revolutionized the tea for me, but then again I add that to almost all my tea, so there’s that.

Haha well I don’t do cream, but perhaps I’ll try milk. I usually don’t care for tea with additions, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to try :) Thanks for the suggestion!

I love black tea and this is usually what’s in my mug. I’m also happy to enjoy a cup of green or red rooibos (green preferable to red), herbals, oolongs (unroasted/green and red preferable to roasted), whites, and subtly flavoured greens (mango or pineapple, yum!).

Likes:
Raspberry, strawberry, peach, rhubarb, passionfruit, blackcurrant, redcurrant, fig, and most fruits in general, maple, creaminess, hay, biscuit, lavender, and cacao/dark chocolate.

I enjoy bergamot when paired with flavours that mellow it (Camellia Sinensis Earl Grey Cream is one of my favourites).

Dislikes:
Any smokiness at all, stevia, too much blackberry leaf, rose, jasmine, ginger (except in chai), cinnamon-heavy teas, anything cloying or fake/candy-like.

I’m vegan with an allergy to potatoes, so I avoid any animal products in tea, along with sprinkles as these often have potato starch (I usually just pick them out of blends).
