687 Tasting Notes

I don’t have a glass teapot, or any teapot for that matter. I make each cup separately in my mug so unfortunately I can’t appreciate the full beauty of this treasure.

I let it steep for 6 minutes, despite my intuition saying not to, just because it wasn’t opening! It still barely opened at all, just the very tips started to curl. Perhaps the resteep will yield better results in that area.

First few sips, I’m really not getting much flavour at all. Perhaps it needs to fully open to get the flavour out? That would make sense. Hmm. Perhaps I’ll put the infuser back in.

I let it steep for close to ten more minutes and still essentially no flavour. How unfortunate.

I found with my flowering teas, you need to use boiling water in order for them to fully open.

This is lovely and spicy and sweet all in one. The mixture of cloves, cinnamon, and orange peel is nothing short of amazing. I’m so happy jessiwrites introduced me to Teaopia’s Market Spice which encouraged me to find more. This is such a great cup of tea. It seems holiday-like but it worked perfectly for my morning tea today.

My next trip to Vancouver I’ll be stocking up on this for sure.

This is a lovely oolong tea. The pomegranate flavour is clearly there, but not overwhelming. The oolong base is lovely and comes through clearly. Overall a great balance between tea and flavour.

The second resteep is still quite flavourful. The pomegranate has diminished somewhat but the oolong base is still nice and strong.

This is reminding me a lot of genmaicha. I’m getting a stronger taste but I like it :)

Another honeybush I’m enjoying. The flavouring seems pretty subtle. I’m getting some rhubarb tartness but I’m not so sure how much strawberry I’m tasting. Either way I’m enjoying the taste of honeybush haha!

Perhaps I don’t have enough experience with honeybush quite yet to make nay major distinctions between the flavours.

This one is nicely done. Most certainly chocolate and green tea with a hint of cinnamon. I enjoyed this and once I’m back home I’ll have to try the resteep.

I wouldn’t necessarily re-order, only because Cocoa Canela is similar and the mate seems to work a little better with the chocolate than does the green tea. Overall a tasty tea.

I’m getting the rhubarb but very little, if any cream. The black tea base is overtaking the flavours. I’m finding that with a lot of black teas – it seems a delicate balance for flavours with black tea. I’m enjoying this one enough, but I’d prefer if there was more of an actual rhubarb and cream flavour.

Man am I ever kicking myself for not picking some of this up before it was gone forever.

I fell asleep on the couch, for the fourth night in a row, just after I steeped (second resteep – I’d brought the first one along for the drive to work) this. So it went in the fridge to enjoy chilled this morning. The crumble-y cinnamon part really comes out chilled and it’s delicious. I love it both hot and cold :)

This tea also resteeps amazingly well. I always resteep this one at least three times – it does lose flavour, but I love it so much if I can get any flavour I’m resteeping it!

I definitely preferred this one to the strawberry rhubarb parfait.. I like the parfait one but not as much.

Sil – Haha I can’t imagine not liking it!

Aimee – I didn’t like the parfait at all because of the hibiscus. The crumble has hibiscus flowers which don’t bother me at all.

drank Fig Matcha by Red Leaf Tea

This will be my caffeinated treat before work today I’ve decided.

I’ve never actually had figs that I know off, save for Fig Newton cookies hah.

I’m not sure what to make of this one after a few sips. It’s certainly very flavourful, but I don’t think the flavour is necessarily for me. Although, I could see it possibly growing on me.

The honeybush is quite clear in this tea but I quite enjoy the taste. I’m getting both the coconut and an ever so subtle cheesecake flavour. This one goes in the win column.

The second resteep is also great.

I love black teas. I pretty well always drink my tea straight. I’m also fond of herbals, but they rarely make my permanent collection. I prefer my tea hot, but occasionally I’ll cold brew.

Oolongs I enjoy, but I’m not generally in the mood for them. I only truly enjoy subtly fruity flavoured greens. Whites have to be pretty amazing (see Butiki’s White Rhino).

Pu’erhs I’m working on at a snail’s pace, but so far I’m not loving them. Rooibos/honeybush have to be well hidden for me to enjoy them. Mates and are not for me at all.

Likes:
Coconut, creaminess, yogurt, toffee, cacao (true dark chocolate flavour), rhubarb.

Dislikes:
Any smokiness, bergamot, flowers (rose, jasmine, chamomile), hibiscus is hit and miss.
