696 Tasting Notes

Thanks Cavocorax for this and ALL the other AWESOME teas you sent :)

This tea is very clearly apple. It smells like apple and tastes like apple. I’m impressed. It’s almost apple cider-like. It makes me feel like it’s autumn as I’m drinking it. Yum.

drank Pineberry Honeybush by 52teas
696 tasting notes

This tea is fascinating. I just received it in the mail yesterday so perhaps I should’ve waited a bit longer to try it? I also don’t think I’ve come even close to perfecting being able to taste the flavours through the honeybush base, but I’m working on it.

I’m getting a subtle creaminess from the marshmallow root and mostly a strawberry taste aside from that. I’m not completely sure how I feel about the taste. I think I’ll let it sit out a few more days before I try again.

Yum. I got this on a whim with my first ever 52Teas order and I’m quite pleased with it. My newfound love of marshmallow root compelled me to add this to my cart.

The lime taste is really lime jello to perfection. I love the addition of marshmallow root, just because I love marshmallow root haha. It’s really a lovely tea.

I can’t say I’ve ever even heard of lime jello salad, much less tried it, but I’m enjoying the tea regardless.

Update: The second steep of this is still quite tasty. I’m very happy with this tea.

drank Pink Passionfruit by DAVIDsTEA
696 tasting notes

I saw hibiscus in the ingredient list, but went ahead and picked up 10g of this anyway, just to try.

I’m happy to say the tea does not steep a deep pink-red colour that normally happens with hibiscus and it smells very passionfruit-y. The scent is reminding me of something fond I had when I was little, but I can’t quite put my finger on what that is.

Initial sips are all passionfruit. Yum! And YAY, no hibiscus overwhelming flavour! There is a very subtle tartness that I’m enjoying. Overall, this tea is really well done.

I can imagine this would be good cold too, but usually even when teas are good cold, I still prefer them hot haha.

Update: The second steep of this has slightly less flavour, but still lovely.

Oh I love Fringe. I miss it dearly now that it’s gone.

Thanks to Jackie T for sending me this to try out.

I’m getting the strawberry flavour alongside the honeybush, and it could totally be mind over matter, but this tea is reminding me of Walter. Sigh. Fond memories.

I definitely need to get more honeybush teas under my belt. I’m enjoying all the ones I’ve tried thus far, but I sometimes find it difficult to taste the flavour amidst the strong honeybush base.

drank Coconut Grove by DAVIDsTEA
696 tasting notes

My fiance has the initital steep of Coconut Grove this morning, and I’m having the resteep now.

This tea is delicious. I love coconut, so I’m not surprised. The coconut and white tea clearly come through. It’s lovely.

A while ago I tried David’s straight white tea Bai Hao Yin Zhen and added shredded coconut from my cupboard and it tastes exactly the same. I’ll probably just save myself some money and do it that way :) Highly recommend.

drank Mint Julep by DAVIDsTEA
696 tasting notes

This is delicious! The mint is very subtle, but clearly there. The accompanying ingredients make a great mix for this tea. I can taste the pineapple and the coconut. It’s nice that none of the ingredients are overwhelming. This tea works so well, and I can’t wait to try it chilled.

The best part was definitely my fiance, who HATES mint, tasted a sip of mine instead of his and exclaimed “This is my new staple! We need to get tins of it, now!” haha.

Uh oh. If YOU like it this much I’m pretty sure I have to place an order today.

I got it iced, in store.. I really liked it.. although I got a tiny bit of agave in it (which I normally don’t), it definitely didn’t need it!

drank Mango Fruit Punch by DAVIDsTEA
696 tasting notes

Yay I got the summer teas today!

Okay, so this one smells and tastes just like Mango Madness. The ingredients are almost identical as well. It’s a yummy tea, and I just put the second steep in the fridge because I think it will be much better chilled.

As far as mango taste, I’m not so sure. It has almost a carbonated feel to it. Regardless, it’s a tasty tea.

Kittenna

Hmm. I wonder how much this will taste like “Mango ‘n’ Friends”, a tea I’ve had from different companies in the past…

I loved the smell of this one… I wish I could drink it lol.. honestly, it smelled like one of the better ones of the summer collection.

drank Mojito Raspberry Mint by Teaopia
696 tasting notes

Thanks Aimee Popovacki for parting with a few cups of this for me :)

This is a lovely tea. Both the raspberry and mint are present. Neither are overwhelming and compliment one another nicely. I’m chilling a second steep in the fridge to try cold, but the hot tea is awesome. I’m sure it can only get better.

Update May 9/13: The second steep chilled is great, and I also had the third steep hot last night and that worked out wonderfully also!

This is one of my favourites. I prefer it much more cold. And a splash of vodka in it is fabulous ;)
I may cry when my tin is empty

lol I’m glad you like this one.. I really find that it is awesome hot or cold.. its just such a versatile blend.. when its gone, I don’t think i’ll ever find one to replace it. :(

Thanks teapot1 for sending me this :)

I don’t have a glass teapot, or any teapot for that matter. I make each cup separately in my mug so unfortunately I can’t appreciate the full beauty of this treasure.

I let it steep for 6 minutes, despite my intuition saying not to, just because it wasn’t opening! It still barely opened at all, just the very tips started to curl. Perhaps the resteep will yield better results in that area.

First few sips, I’m really not getting much flavour at all. Perhaps it needs to fully open to get the flavour out? That would make sense. Hmm. Perhaps I’ll put the infuser back in.

I let it steep for close to ten more minutes and still essentially no flavour. How unfortunate.

Lala

I found with my flowering teas, you need to use boiling water in order for them to fully open.

teapot1

Courtney, I also found this tea to be lacking in flavor…I thought that might just be me! I agree, unfortunate:(…

Bio

Lover of tea, animals, the ocean (http://eastcoastbest.tumblr.com/), science, travel, and all things summer.

That’s my mug! I may have a slight love of Star Trek.

I love black teas. I pretty well always drink my tea straight. I’m also fond of herbals, but they rarely make my permanent collection. I prefer my tea hot, but occasionally I’ll cold brew.

Oolongs I enjoy, but I’m not generally in the mood for them. I only truly enjoy subtly fruity flavoured greens. Whites have to be pretty amazing (see Butiki’s White Rhino).

Pu’erhs I’m working on at a snail’s pace, but so far I’m not loving them. Rooibos/honeybush have to be well hidden for me to enjoy them. Mates and are not for me at all.

Likes:
Coconut, creaminess, yogurt, toffee, cacao (true dark chocolate flavour), rhubarb.

Dislikes:
Any smokiness, bergamot, flowers (rose, jasmine, chamomile), hibiscus is hit and miss.
