drank Earl Grey Cream by Just Add Honey

derk sent me a wee pot of this one and I’m so thrilled!

Enjoying this one as I work on my wildlife conservation assignment this week: using RStudio to create home range maps for grey wolves in Canada!

I could smell this from the side table while I waited on it to cool and the scent is really lovely. The bergamot here is sweet with the bergamot taste, but not so much of the floral that can sometimes be off-putting. The base tea blends nicely here with the slightest astringency after the sip. There’s a creaminess here that’s subtle and just takes the edge off. Overall an enjoyable cuppa!

I really need to make a cup of this one, Camellia Sinensis, and B&B to compare.

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 3 g 14 OZ / 414 ML

Bad memories of R. Glad this tea was an enjoyable accompaniment to your project :)

2021 sipdown no. 44

A sipdown of my sample package, because Camellia Sinensis is having a sale today, so I finally placed my first order of 2021 to get 50g of this delicious tea (plus a few others, naturally)!

I absolutely love this tea. The pineapple and coconut with the black base is like a tropical breakfast treat. The pineapple almost has a caramelized pineapple flavour to it. From the first cup, this was love.

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 4 min, 0 sec 3 g 14 OZ / 414 ML

Curse you/thank you Courtney!?! :D I’ve been buying tea for almost 5 years. This company is on my “to buy someday since I have enough tea to last a lifetime”. I read this note and promptly went to their website and about to place my first order and this tea is among them! :D

Courtney

I hope you enjoy the ones you’ve chosen! I’ve been really impressed with this company and will definitely continue to order from them!

Tiffany :)

Are you getting new teas to try or reordering ones you know you enjoy?

Courtney

This one is the only repeat that I love! Otherwise, I’m getting a number of new ones (mostly sample sizes). What did you look at getting?

Tiffany :)

I got the simple puer knife and 10 different teas/tisanes (OMBRELLE DE PAPIER, ONE NIGHT IN RIO!, RASPBERRY MIMOSA, MADAME LA MARQUISE, CASABLANCA BREEZE ORGANIC, EVA CHAI ORGANIC, JIN SHUAN, SHAN LIN XI, LA TAÏGA SAUVAGE, LA PROTECTRICE ORGANIC). face palm/excited fist pump

Courtney

That’s awesome! :)

I combined Teavivre’s Bailin and Bird & Blend’s Baby Spice today and it was delightful!

I love Bailin and it’s a regular go-to, but Baby Spice has never really hit the mark for me. I really enjoy it cold, but not so much hot. It always felt like it was missing something. Adding a black base did wonders!

Edit: I made this with CS Assam Banaspaty the next time and it was an even better black base for this tea.

Dammann Frères Advent Day 17 (17-February 2021)

This one is really great! Lexa immediately said it tasted like coffee, which intrigued me. I definitely got the hojicha, vanilla, and pear flavours and they work so incredibly well together. I would definitely consider ordering this one for our cupboard.

Preparation
175 °F / 79 °C 2 min, 30 sec 3 g 14 OZ / 414 ML

This smells and tastes exactly like when I smash up fresh strawberries to make strawberry shortcake each summer. The scent is reminding me of home and my grandmother, who taught me how to make strawberry shortcake. What a winning cuppa! Also, the green rooibos is such a great choice — to all tea companies, please feel free to use it more! :)

Edit: Forgot to mention before that I picked the marshmallows out of here, just in case they weren’t vegan!

I love strawberry shortcake – I always serve myself 60% cream, 30% strawberry, and 10% cake. But I’ve got this tea on my shelf, and I think you’ve convinced me to finally open it!

Courtney

Strawberry shortcake is the best! I hope you enjoy this one!

Inkling

This sounds so good! Why do so many tea companies use red rooibos and not green?

Courtney

I’ve no idea Inkling, but I wish they would incorporate more green!

A lovely tea from VariaTEA!

I quite enjoyed this one. The fruitiness is slightly generic, but there is definitely a sea buckthorn tartness that I really like. The green tea blends into the background and accents nicely.

Dammann Frères Advent Day 16 (16-February 2021)

I forgot about this tea until it was pretty cold, but it’s still tasty! I’m getting mostly orange here and I quite enjoy orange and rooibos. I’ve nothing to complain about here!

190 °F / 87 °C 4 min, 30 sec 3 g 14 OZ / 414 ML

This one has really grown on me. It’s exactly what it says it is and I enjoy all the ingredients. The lavender is pretty forefront, but the chocolate and coconut it mellow it out in a nice balance.

I didn’t realize this tea had a blended base of white and green tea. I thought it was just white! Alas, I can taste hints of pineapple, lemongrass, and a maybe cherry. The lemongrass is becoming more apparent as the tea cools and some of the sweetness of the cherry is fading away. I’d say I prefer this one warmer. I feel like I can smell the rhubarb, but I can’t taste it, so perhaps the next cup will be luckier for that!

I was working away on a super cool assignment where I have to design a vulture safe zone for 100 breeding pairs of vultures and I completely forgot this was steeping…I set the timer for 6 minutes but didn’t even hear it go off, so I’ve no idea how long this steeped for!

Preparation
175 °F / 79 °C 3 g 14 OZ / 414 ML
derk

How big of an area would the zone need to be for all those vulture?

Courtney

I’m working on figuring that out, but it looks like 100km2 from each colony in an entire population, and I’ve found some literature that says 33,000km2. Working on figuring out that math for one colony and take into consideration the habitat types they need.

derk

And what type of habitat is that? Once when doing vegetation surveys, I came across a lone vulture chick screaming at me from a nook in a limestone cliff that had had probably 80% canopy cover. Scared the bejeebies outta me. I never thought about where vultures nest.

Courtney

Some of them do nest on cliffs! I’m looking at white-rumped vultures, which typically nest in tall trees but do their foraging in open grassland/savanna.

derk

Thanks for feeding my inner naturalist :)

Courtney

Thank you! I looove chatting about it haha. I need more people to chat with these things about!

Martin Bednář

That’s truly super cool assignment! I wish I knew someting about that :)
If I am bored with my logistics lectures, I think I will read some articles about Vultures.

Nearly done these teas from Cameron!

This one is exactly what it says — a very vanilla black. I can confirm I do not care for vanilla teas. They taste musty to me and upset my stomach, but this tea is what it says it is, so one can’t fault it for that!

Profile

Bio

I love black tea and this is usually what’s in my mug. I’m also happy to enjoy a cup of green or red rooibos (green preferable to red), herbals, oolongs (unroasted/green and red preferable to roasted), whites, and subtly flavoured greens (mango or pineapple, yum!).

Likes:
Raspberry, strawberry, peach, rhubarb, passionfruit, blackcurrant, redcurrant, fig, and most fruits in general, maple, creaminess, hay, biscuit, lavender, and cacao/dark chocolate.

I enjoy bergamot when paired with flavours that mellow it (Camellia Sinensis Earl Grey Cream is one of my favourites).

Dislikes:
Any smokiness at all, stevia, too much blackberry leaf, rose, jasmine, ginger (except in chai), cinnamon-heavy teas, anything cloying or fake/candy-like.

I’m vegan with an allergy to potatoes, so I avoid any animal products in tea, along with sprinkles as these often have potato starch (I usually just pick them out of blends).
