This is pretty nice, except for that weak Chinese sencha blend. I think I may just straight out hate that stuff at this point. It’s such a watery non-substance after such lovely flavours here (orange, vanilla, sandalwood). I think this could be something pretty special if it weren’t for that generic, lackluster, hateful tea base (now let me tell you how I really feel).

I mostly get clove-accented blackberries and stone fruits, with a floral citrus-orange mix that comes off as overly perfume-like. The floral perfume thing is unfortunately a little too much for me; it drowns out the room (and my tongue) for hours after the initial session. I kept thinking about how much Sil would dislike this one if I sent it to her.

Oh well, moving on!

The last few months have been a bit of a struggle both mentally and healthwise, but the better weather here on the West Coast seems to have given me back some energy. I’m looking forward to drinking teas besides Cold 911 (maybe iced tea is in the cards?).

This one more than makes up for my poor experience with (cue Twilight Zone music) the Black Lodge. This easy steeper had such a lovely balance of sour-sweet green apple, fennel and citrus zest that I ended up never drinking it with milk- the cloves and strong herbs make me mentally group it as a chai but I’ll have to order more if I want a latte or iced cup now!

The description on the back makes me laugh though. “Melodic sonic modulations” what now?! This is a pretty happy tea drinking experience and it got me through quite a few sick days, so I’ll go with it. This will be on the reorder list when I eventually run out of Psychocandy.

I’m still alive but not fully functioning right now. Just want people to know that they haven’t been forgotten. Parcels will be sent out soon when everything I touch doesn’t become plague-ridden.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of this one’s candy-like take on the Earl Grey’s Cream (more like cotton candy or butterscotch), but I appear to be an outlier. The rest of my family loved this one. They would steep it multiple times, all by themselves (family always gets me to steep their tea so this was surprising). I found out it was finished when I walked through the door and my sister shouted "we finished your tea!*- such a novelty.

I would give this tea around a 75 but they would rate it at least an 85… so we are just going to make it an 80.

Thank you, Teaguy, for the experience! This tea was loved, if not always appreciated.

It’s been four months since I’ve practised yoga and, omg, it felt like taking the nicest hot bath in the universe. That’s probably a weird thing to say, but if you understood how stiff and dormant my muscles had become you’d understand. I need this in my life as a regular thing. Never going without it again.

Anyways, I thought I’d celebrate the occasion by drinking a new tea and writing a note, which is something else I was starting to neglect. I’m up to 92 teas, so the need to drink them up and send out some parcels is apparent.

Mulberry is an interesting combination with Genmaicha. It’s not my favourite 52teas genmaicha blend, and the flavouring is in a super subtle way. The mulberries add a hint of golden sweetness and emphasize the nutty rice notes in a low-key but rich fashion. I just wish there was a bit more to it (maybe coconut, idk- I miss DT’s Gold Rush).

Nom nom nom.

For a moment I thought 52teas had forgotten to send me this, but I eventually found it in my Carrot Pancake labelled packet (Carrot Pancake was in the Danish packet). All is good!

Argh!!!

Someone spilled water over my brand new, 100g packet of this but I think it’s ok. The inside sheen coating protected it… I hope.

It tastes alright for now. Just goes to show there is no point in hoarding tea. :(

I don’t know why Japanese green teas don’t get more love. At their best, these teas are like matcha without all the prep and labour. Maybe the price is daunting for someone who isn’t really into green tea? I completely empathize with that. If I wanted 100g of this it would be a $40 CAD investment… which actually isn’t too bad, but I’m not in a place in life where I can justify that much right now.

Anyways, to my untrained palate this Uji Sencha is one of those aforementioned best- aka you can taste a hint of Matcha goodness! Buttery, floral, crisp, bright green powder goodness… I haven’t had a proper cup of matcha since my trip to Japan over a year ago (a pedestrian cup after hiking back down the Fushimi Inari trail), but this is the next best thing!

Kind of a roasted fruit jam flavour, and very close to tasting like the morning burnt toast. It’s not as bad as I thought it would be but I still don’t Love this type of tea. At least it isn’t burnt flower offerings this time!
