502 Tasting Notes

Blazing Strawberries from DAVIDsTEA
86

What do you mean I’ve never tried Blazing Strawberries but I went out and bought 100grams this afternoon?… that’s how much I love and trust the Steepster community :D
I’ve found a few taste twins and trust their tongue judgement 100%. Also, I needed it before it went away! I missed out on Banana Daquiri :( The girls said that the fall teas are coming next week but we don’t get to try them until the start of Sept! Way to tease me.

Anyways wow. This tea is good. It’s super light, I wasn’t expecting it to be this light at all. I used a generous 2 tsp with lots of peppercorns and strawberry chunks so I could have a proper first cup. The flavour is quite subtle, but I’m so in love. It’s strange, it’s not spicy, but there is a fieriness to it that is quelled by the bamboo. ALSO the bamboo is cooling my throat from my bad acid reflux.

You mean I just found a tea that sooths my heartburn? And it’s name has Blazing in the title? And it’s almost out of stock?!

Well, at least I bought an insane 4 ounces of it :D

Belgian Chocolate Rooibos from Steeped About Tea
76

This one is MUCH better than my previous Belgian Chocolate Rooibos.
I don’t find it particularly “chocolatey” in the sense that Chocolate Rocket is – it doesn’t replace a candy bar in that sense, but it is still a decedant and yummy tea.
I added a splash of milk and agave nectar and it was a really nice alternative to black tea tonight. (Last night… backlogging haha)

I have a LOT of this tea so I’m going to be experimenting with it, mixing it with other teas (Chocolate earl grey?) I’ll let you know if it turns out!

Movie Night from DAVIDsTEA
90

Upping the rating because this tea is out of this world.

My amazing boyfriend bought me this tea and a David’sTea Bodum Travel Press in my favorite colour so of course I made a cup right away! Well, a few cups, it resteeps really well for me. Again I stress – although it’s a green tea, don’t understeep! I didn’t get any bitterness with my 7 minute steep, just lots of yummy caramel/apple popcorn flavours, yo.

Raspberry Honey Tea from Steeped About Tea
82

My first birthday present tea _
I love when a friend knows nothing about tea and then buys you 100g. Poor guy spent a fortune on me because he didn’t know you could get less than 100g haha. Anyways!

This tea is from a local tea shop called Steeped About Tea, and I’ve been loving it so far.

This tea in particular is really nice. The little chamomile flowers are scarce and just add a mellow note to the tea. Don’t oversteep as it gets a bit bitter, (heh bit bitter), but when steeped just right it’s a very relaxing, tasty tea!

Of course, I know it will just shine when I ice it, so I had better get on that :D

Belgian Chocolate Rooibos from Steeped About Tea
76
Get Happy - No.13 (Wellness Collection) from The Republic of Tea
74

I am really loving this tea.
It’s (hopefully) probably not apparent on Steepster, but I need a lot of help in the happy department. Tea is my current sanctuary, and I’m loving every sip of it.

This tea is perfect in that respect! I love love love peach teas (usually green) but with the rooibos it’s deep and luscious. The lemon myrtle is a tasty touch, and I can’t wait to make a huge jug of yummy iced tea.

It’s making me smile with every sip, and this is totally the tea for me.

Buttered Rum (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
91

Birthday Tea!!
Almost done my tin D: But not quite. And so I will keep sippin’.

Paris from Harney & Sons
80

My first Harney & Sons.

A little back story, Uniquity dropped a hint that I could pick up H&S at my local Chapters! So I ran there as soon as I could, and the only kind was Paris. It sounded intriguing (although I’m dieing to try Florence), so I picked up a canister and never looked back.

Wow. It is delicious. I feel grown up! It’s delicate but has body, a little fruity and a little bergamot. I’m also in love, along with all of you!

Now tomorrow in my birthday and I have to choose what tea to have! Will it be Paris or Buttered Rum? A very difficult decision. Well, not really. I’ll have both, but which to have first?!

Please please tea-gods, may you bless me with more Harney & Sons one day.. one day..

Chocolate Rocket from DAVIDsTEA
96

So I’m not sure why I can’t rate this a full 100, but I just can’t!
Anyways, it’s high enough haha.

On my third steep this morning. The second cup (4 min 1st and 2nd steep) was just as flavourful (more almond/raspberry), and the third cup (5 min) is getting a bit weaker. Not just tasting like hot water weak though, still pleasant!

I would try one more steep if my bladder could take it. maybe this afternoon :)

Edit: Didn’t quite hold up to a 4th steep! Pretty watery, so I threw in some chocolate rooibos to give it some body and it’s lovely :) Might keep that in mind as a way to use up the rest of my rooibos – save it for my 4th steeps! haha

Chocolate Rocket from DAVIDsTEA
96

Wow! This is up there now with my most favorite teas!
I’m so so glad I went with my instinct and bought 20g to try today. I couldn’t keep my eyes open, and even after a few sips I am wide awake and energized.

First of all, it is the best Mate I have ever had. The flavours compliment the woodiness perfectly. I do taste the raspberry, but not seperate from the chocolate. It tastes like those raspberry- chocolate oranges at christmas. Terrys!

Okay, now that it has cooled a bit, I get that banana bread taste others are talking about. It only came out after cooling a bit though, interesting! This has a most lovely aftertaste, wow I can’t wait for my next cup. I guess I should finish this one first haha.

I did break my rule and bought tea before my birthday, but it was just a little wee bit so it can’t hurt right? n_n;

Spearmint (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
93

This is a perfect after lunch tea.
Super refreshing, I LOVE spearmint! Especially compared to other mints. The natural sweetness just makes my tastebuds sing.

Just the thing I needed at work after my sick day yesterday.

Mango Tea from The Boston Tea Company
83

Finally! A tea that holds up to cold brewing perfectly!
I can’t wait to try it with all of my new Boston teas. A simple flavoured black. I guess that was the key all along :D

It’s sweet and mango-y, like those big suckers you can buy in dollar stores. Man I love those things. It’s not the most dignified tea in the world, but I’m excited to bring out all my Boston’s boxes at my pirate birthday party on the 20th. Oh yeah. I go all out.

Anyways, love this tea hot and cold!

Pomegranate Green Tea from The Boston Tea Company
71

I oversteeped last night, bad Daisy x_x
Not a smart idea with a cheap green like this, but it was a nice treat anyways :)

Smelled more like pomegranate than the taste. Dry it smelled amazing, like sweet red licorice! It was especially enjoyable because I got to try out my new Agave – Honey Vanilla! It hit the spot last night while the man and I looked through pictures to put in our Cuba album.

Thank you Winners for having awesome, unique stuff!

Earl Grey from The Boston Tea Company
79

This is yummy!

Ok on to the review haha. After trying some BAD tetley teas, I got afraid that my taste buds were becoming snobbish. I’m blessed with a David’s Tea every day as it’s close to my work, what if I got too used to all the high fancy to-do flavoured goodness that is DT? haha what I mean is, DT has very strong flavours that are unique and I’m loving them, but what about the other teas of the supermarket world that are closer to my fingertips, the ones I grew up on?

Well superlong story short, I went to Winners and bought a giant box of Boston’s tea, about 8-10 different flavours. Heck yes.

And lo and behold – it’s yummy! Not sour and bitter like my Tetley Vanilla Earl Grey experience, but a more muted and classic Earl Grey. I used 2 tea bags because my mug is huge and it’s an early morning. Added a splash of cream and sugar, as is my want.

Happy tuesday morning.

Cherry Cosmo from Tea Forte
72

Okay. So this started off being my least favorite, and became my favorite (so far) of the sample pack.

Dry, the leaves smelled to me like paint thinner. Hooray!

The first sip tasted really tart, thank you hibiscus, but as I kept drinking it got addictive and super yummy. Then I placed it – it tastes like Cherry Coke or Balck Cherry soda! Not as deep at Black cherry, but that flavour is def reminiscent of it. Yum!

So yeah I am pretty impressed with this tea now. The hibiscus was there because I wanted to be disappointed in this tea I think. That sounds strange, but there you go. As I kept drinking, the cherry flavor over powered it.

If I make an on-line order, I will pick up some of this.
Maybe it will inspire me to get the courage to try david’s Cherry Potion. But I doubt it.

Thanks again Tea Forte!

Belgian Chocolate Rooibos from Culinary Teas
48

It’s alright, the first chocolate tea I’ve tried as long as I can remember.
Well, I shouldn’t say that… this has been sitting at teh back of my cupboard for over a year, relatively untouched. I did have one cup of it before…

Anyways – it is a touch minty and watery, and I’m not getting a lot of chocolate flavour. Guess I just wanted to try something different this morning and it’s ‘meh’.

Put in a touch of milk and sugar but it didn’t help the situation too much. I’ll pass on the second steep!

Blueberry Merlot from Tea Forte
54

Iced tea time!

First of all, it cold brewed beautifully. The colour is just as deep and rich as the hot brewed cup!

First sip… very sagey and tart. Not unpleasant though!

Verdict: the hot brew worked better to get that tasty blueberry flavour, so if you’re going to try it iced I suggest a hot brew with ice rather than a cold brew.

All in all it’s refreshing though, I can see myself sitting outside on a hot day with a little cheese and lemon cake. Man I want to pair this tea with food so badly!

Edit: As I got to to the bottom of my cup I wasn’t liking it as much. Ended up dumping it because the herbiness (herby-ness?) was getting to be way too much. Tasted sage all day.

Earl Grey Vanilla from Tetley
54

I wanted so much to like this!
I LOVE Earl Grey, and I hearken back to the days when my mom and I would just throw tea bags into a cup, walk away and then walk back some time later and drink our tea.

This one leaves something to be desired, sadly :(
I got a few tea bags from my mom-in-law to tide me over until I can get some loose leaf (It’s my birthday on Aug 19th so I’m trying not to buy tea until after… it’s HARD!), but oof. the tea is bitter! So bitter it’s almost sour! And I have a dash of cream and sugar in it. Smells wonderful though haha

Well, I feel sad now. because I feel tea-spoiled. But nothing wrong with a good cup of tea! I’ll find one after I finish this :)

Blueberry Merlot from Tea Forte
54

I really wanted to just do one tea a day but wow I wanted another one!

The dry smell is very intriguing. Herby and super fresh blueberry – I am excited.
There was lots in the bag so I made like Bliss and didn’t use much in my Tsac. The rest will turn into iced tea overnight in my ice tea mug! It’s my war against hibiscus with the cold brew method. Not sure if I’m winning that war.

The colour is deep purple and the liquid itself very aromatic. I let it steep for the full 5 minutes and it is quite tart, but juicy is a word that pops into my head too!
The sage is a VERY nice addition. It’s filling my humble cubicle with an aroma that I have to decribe as ‘gorgeous’. I want to be eating herbed roasted chicken while I drink this tea.

A solid berry tea. Will finish my review and rate tomorrow with my iced tea!

Dulce & Banana from DAVIDsTEA
96

I’m upping the rating because this tea is delicious.

Sweet and carmel-y (I’m a sucker for anything with dulce in the name), creamy and decedant. I can’t spell, but I want more. That’s all I know.

Edit: I should add again that I HATE bananas. But I love carmelized bananas, or flambe.
This does not taste like bananas, it tastes like carmelized bananas – as the name suggests. Anyways, YUM.

Mojito Marmalade from Tea Forte
59

Oof! It was tasty!

My first of the sampler pack to try :D Man I was so excited when I got this in the mail yesterday.

First of all, I need to curb my excitement and only drink these in the afternoon. The no-caffiene thing in the morning hit me kind of hard haha – lucky I chose this kind of tea.

The tangy citrus helped wake me up! :D
It really has a jammy taste to it, a “thick” texture too.
The spearmint is just right, didn’t overpower the marmalade taste for me. What it really did was make me crave this gooey mess all over a hot buttered english muffin.

Pom Power from DAVIDsTEA
75

I’ve been waiting all week to try this!
When I smelled it today and last week, all I could think of was that this could be my yummy replacement for Strawberry White! of course then I learned that hisbiscus is bad for my tastebuds, but I still wanted to give it a try :)

It’s quite tart (of course) but I am having it with sweetener so that helps a bit. The pomegranate taste is genuine! Tastes just like eating a juicy pomegranate – I like that. The white tea gives it a solid base – it’s not bitter at all in that respect. They must have steeped it well for me today :)

It’s not my favorite fruit or tea but I have to say this would be a great one for tart berry-tea lovers. Yum!

Strawberry Pomegranate Red from Stash Tea Company
15

I cold brewed this last night, and I am not liking it :(

The roobios is very very woody and leaving a bad aftertaste after each sip. The first taste is a tangy strawberry, but it quickly changes to simply rooibos.

I had one bag and tried cold brewing to see if I could somehow avoid the hibiscus ( – and it worked, the brew is not sour at all! So that’s something I guess haha.

Jasmine Green Tea from Tetley
39

I don’t think I oversteeped but I made a jug for iced tea, it was way too bitter even with lots of agave so, yeah! It wasn’t even so much that it was bitter, but that it was VERY flowery in cold form.

I’m going to stick to drinking this tea hot. Hot, it’s relaxing, calming and very tasty. :)

I’m going to mix the rest of the jug with some Strawberry Daquiri mix I have and make it into popsicles.

Profile

Bio

You can call me Daisy.

I’m a 24 year old (not so budding) thespian – just moved to the Maritimes from the Saskatchewan Prairies. I’m way too polite, aka Proud to be a Canadian. I love it here by the water – it must remind me of tea or something ;)

My favourite tea companies are DavidsTea and Verdant Tea. They please my palette in different ways – and I love them both for it.

My rating system is as follows:
95-100: I will stock it as soon as I can, if I haven’t already! Permanent collection worthy.

86-95: I would stock this tea if I could, but my collection is just too full to warrant it. But it is that good.

76-85: This is a tasty tea and I will have many cups and share with friends, but won’t go out of my way to keep it stocked.

50-75: It was alright! It was… alright! Not horrible, but I might not re-steep.

25-50: Ew. But I will finish the cup.

1-25: Please no, I want to dump it.

The Steepster community is my safe place. Thank you to all my tea friends!
