1040 Tasting Notes
Tea 7 in my chai quest. I was expecting this to be cinnamon heavy. I think Davids usually are. This one isn’t really that bad, it’s peppery and spicy – but not really as “chai” as I would like it.
I still have 3 to try tomorrow, this one falls in just as average.
Tea five in the great chai quest. This one is hard for me to judge. I like if, but it’s really subtle. I know I’ve been complaining about too spicy, but I think this one isn’t spicy enough. It’s good though, nicely balanced. I think this would be good cold. Will have to try that sometime.
Tea four in my chai quest. All I have to say about this one is offensive. Ewww there is something really nasty in here, I want to say rancid coconut. That whole nastiness is then just blinded with cinnamon. I’m just going to pass and move on to the next one.
Tea three in my chai adventure today. Last time I wrote about this, I thought this WAY to spicy. It’s either mellowed with age or I got a different distribution this time. Having said that, I still don’t really like it, I still don’t like the balance of spice and there is just something wrong with covering LB with these spices – especially when they don’t really work for me… Sorry Verdant.
In search of perfect chai quest continues. This one is a little sharper, spicier than the previous one I was drinking. My previous note said that this was clove heavy. I’m not getting that today – must depend what ends up in your tsp. I’m upping the rating some, this is a decent chai, but not as good as Camellia.
This is a really nice black tea. I’ve been drinking my Capital Tea blacks and have been lazy about writing tasting notes. I had this a few times at work this week, and it works really well at work. It’s well balanced and bold without being too strong that it oversteeps.
I’m not sure this is on my favorite black list, but it is a nice everyday kind of tea.
I’ve been buying chai from almost every company I’ve ordered from. I keep searching for that illusive “perfect” chai. I’m spending today drinking chai. I’m hoping to try all the ones I have and compare them to each other. I’m not going to rate them until the end, so that they end up in the correct order.
I’ve started with a pretty good one. I quite like this, I think the spices are well balanced but it’s a bit too spicy for me. Either needs less leaf or more black tea added. All in all I’m off to a good start. I think this will end up in the mid 80s
I’ve been drinking some of my teas from Capital Tea Ltd. and have been pretty impressed with them (I really should write some tasting notes).
I have this one with me a work tonight. OMG!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! I can’t explain what I like about it. It just seems to have the correct balance between a dark malty black, and a lighter astringent black. It’s different from most of the ones I’ve been drinking. This is way up there on my list of favorite black – like keep in your cupboard always.
Thank you yyz for recommending Capital Tea and this one specifically. :))
EDIT TO ADD – WOW – I highly recommend trying this at lower water temp longer steep. I just had a cup at about 90C for 7 minutes. WOW!!! Massive chocolate notes – zero astringency.
Thanks to VariaTEA for sending me some of this.
I’ve actually had it before, this is one of the first teas I ever tried from Teavana. I’ve tried so many different teas, from so many different companies since then, but somehow this is comforting to me. It’s like an old friend you haven’t seen in forever. You may have gone your separate ways but still have that bond of memories and shared experiences. This is a bit like that. I think I’ve moved on, but somehow I still like it – maybe it’s a little nostalgic.
Thanks VariaTEA for the trip down memory lane.
