White Tangerine from Adagio Teas

Got a sample of this with my last Adagio order.

The leaves are large, with a good percent of stems to leaves. I’ve never really seen stems in the tea unless it’s a white tea, so not sure if this is common, but the few I’ve tried loose have had stems.

These leaves smell vegetal, not really smelling the tangerine when dry. Once steeped the leaves open up to be huge, so I’m wondering if I guessed and used too many leaves, as they nearly filled my finum infuser while steeping and expanding in my 16oz cup.

Not getting much aroma at all from the wet leaves. The tea brewed to be a very pretty tangerine colored liquor.

This tea is very light in taste. Once every few sips I’ll get an aftertaste of something citrusy but nothing like the sweet nectar greatness of fresh tangerines. Maybe as it cools more…hrmm.

Nope, not much more as it cools. Maybe I need to steep longer than 7 minutes? Or maybe this is just how light white teas are? I will try this again before I give it a rating.

i don’t like white teas because they are usually light and subtle teas (at least the ones i have had)

Yeah, I think white teas may not be my thing. I can barely stand most greens unless flavored. I love my blacks/chais/rooibos though!

Meghann M, while I haven’t tried this one I’ve found a shorter steep time actually brings out the flavor more. Yeah, I know, weird. I like a 3 min steep. Also, make sure you’re using enough leaf. I use over a TB per 6oz. This tea sounds so good, I hope my suggestions help!

Bio

Live in the cornfields of IL, but not too far from the city. Expecting a baby any day now (due Oct 24 2011). Sticking to mainly herbal and low caffeine teas for now. Trying to encourage my husbands tea drinking, but he adds so much sweetner he may as well just drink diet pop. I love trying new teas, and will try any tea once.
