I was excited to drink this today, a good start to what is likely going to be an exciting and hopefully a sting free day, but unfortunately it seems to have fallen flat. The tea is in a bag as a sample sent by Lupicia. It isn’t super old, but isn’t brand new either. It smells great, but has this flat cardboard like taste. It has been so long since I have had it that I don’t remember what my steeping parameters were. I could have looked it up, but I was busy prepping everything for the day and took a wrong guess. I’m now waiting for my drill to charge which gives me a few free moments to write a tasting note.

What am I so excited about today…..? I get to do my first cut out! In beekeeper talk, it’s when you cut a hive out of where it isn’t supposed to be. I keep my hive at a neighbor’s family farm and their neighbors told me they just bought an old trailer that has bees living in the wall. I went to check it out and it’s a small colony of honey bees, the drywall is pulled off exposing the hive and it’s perfect for my first cut out! I’m getting all my extra hive equipment set up and planning my strategy of removal and installation into their new home. Oh the things I find thrilling!

Sounds really interesting. I know absolutely nothing about beekeeping but it always seems very pastoral. :)

I love it! I used to have my hive in my front yard and enjoyed sitting and watching my girls going about their work bringing in pollen and all, but we changed the yard around so I keep my hive at another location where it’s a better set up.
I was a little nervous yesterday, but the installation went really well. The bees were super gentle after just a little puff of smoke and I’m now the proud keeper of two hives!

My name is Dustin and I like tea.

I’m an added flavor kind of tea fan, but have had a growing appreciation for plain. I want my tea to remind me of cookies and cakes with coconut and almond slices with a hint of chocolate drizzled on top. I want dancing ponies and flying monkeys shooting off fireworks! And no hibiscus. Hibiscus is the devil.
