672 Tasting Notes
Not sure if I have reviewed this tea before. Anyways, it smells fruity, but also sort of ashy. Like tangerine pipe tobacco ash? I don’t know! When tasting it I get something earthy that slowly fades into a distinct tangerine taste. It isn’t earthy like a puerh, it is something different that I can’t name. Is it the guyusa I’m tasting? I’m not too familiar with guyusa. Adding brown sugar changes the earthiness, but not the fruit flavors. Next I’m adding cream which is making for a creamy earth taste. The tangerine always stays a little behind the earthy taste. It’s good, but I think I need to play around with it a little more to get a wow out of it. Not sure if it is good for multiple steeps, but either way my cup is finished and I’m diving into a second steep!
I must have made this way too concentrated because the first taste was horribly bitter and grassy! Watering it down helps a lot! Much smoother now. Half way through the sip I get a wheatgrass type taste that holds on into the after taste. I get that same mouth sensation that I do when I take a shot of wheatgrass juice. Almost a slight puckering. The first part of the sip is different and a little more mellow, but I don’t know how to describe it. Interesting tea, but not one I need to seek out.
Wow, very malty tea! It tastes very similar to that malted drink powder that you put in milk, without all the sugar. I mean that in a nice way. :) My husband just took a sniff and sip and declared it to be artichoke tea. I can see the comparison, but it still tastes malty to me. Never thought of artichokes as malty before. Huh. I don’t know if it is sacrilege to think of blending this, but I bet it would be fantastic with a strong chocolate flavor mixed in, just like a chocolate malty shake.

On the first sip, my immediate thought was “pickle juice?!”. What the? Even after reading that it is supposed to be apricot and cream, I still get that. There is this tang that is mildly pickley. When I sweeten it, it just tastes like a sweet version of what I was tasting. I don’t know what I did to this sample or what I had it next to that it may have been absorbing odd flavors from, but this is not right! It is actually making me laugh a bit. My husband tried a sip and said that he tastes fruit, but also what I was talking about. I will definitely give this another go someday and see what I make of it then!
