drank Number 4 by TWG Tea Company

It seems like a few of the TWG teas I ordered don’t have Steepster profiles which is always surprising!

I bought this one because of the pomegranate. It isn’t a fruit I have come across in tea before so I wanted to try it. It smells like rich tart fruit. I added a little sugar to perk it up. When I taste it I can pick out the cherry blossoms and a little of the pom, but the aftertaste almost has a cranberry like flavor to it. It is interesting, it’s nice, but it isn’t captivating. I could take it or leave it. I added a little cream to the last of my cup and it did nothing for it. I’ll have to try it cold brewed next.

TWG is not easy to find!

Dustin

I just ordered 12 from Urban Tea Merchant. They are in Canada but have free shipping to the US once you hit a certain price point. They gave me 5 free samples too, which I’m super excited about! I also picked up a tin recently at Dean and Deluca who sells online too. :)

I finally after a month or more of searching TJMaxx and Homegoods stores finally found some Fauchon! I was so excited I bought two of these, but I think I may be suffering from a little buyers remorse. I didn’t look up the tea before steeping, so I steeped it as a black. I’ll have to try it as an oolong next and I’m hoping it will be better because this is just blah. I can taste a little orange and a little almond, but it is just flat and dull. The level of flavor that I have come to expect from this brand just isn’t there in this one. Is Fauchon just pawning off old stock on discount US stores? It is a huge disappointment after how excited I was to try it and how hard I searched for it. :(

oh bummer!

Stephanie

I bet you could sell it here on Steepster if you end up hating it :)

Myssy

I didn’t love it either and my tin is on it’s way to Stephanie today

Dustin

Would anyone want to buy it after my glowing review? :P
MzPriss, did you try it cold steeped? That is going to be my next move.

Myssy

I haven’t tried it cold steeped. I know I don;t love a lot of flavored teas but I keep trying them – and I thought these fancy French ones might change my mind. I’ve already taped up Stephanie’s box (one step closer Steph – I haven’t gotten to the post office yet though because I’m trying to pack up everyone’s box I’m sending stuff to – but I promise it’s coming!) I’m interested to see what you think of it cold steeped Dustin.

Dustin

That’s the way I was with Damman Freres! I kept trying them hoping I’d find some I liked, but it didn’t happen. They had an EG that was good, but that was it!
I’ll have to start a jar of this cold steeping now! Stay tuned for another review in the next few days!

This has a bergamot kick to it! More than I was expecting. I can pick out a light chocolate taste which rounds out the bergamot nicely. The tea base is plesant and rich. I’m having it with a little sugar and am now adding some cream.
Huh, I’m not sure I like this with cream. It dampers the bergamot and I can ’t really taste the chocolate.

It’s a really nice cup and so far I’m impressed with TWG. Their teas haven’t been mind blowing at this point, but they have been solid, consistent and interesting.

Oooooh! I like this! I’m getting a heavy base, which I’m guessing is the black tea. I always compare tea to perfume where you have base, mid and high notes which together make for a well rounded scent. There are higher notes, ginger I’m guessing. It reminds me of Mariage Freres’s La Route Du Temps, which I have never been able to get an awesome cup out of. It was always all high notes and kind of sharp. This one is very well rounded. I’m enjoying it with a little bit of sugar.

Deciding how to brew it was a little tricky since it is a green and black blend. In the past I have had success cold brewing blends like this, but this time I decided to go with a lower green temp and it worked out pretty well.

I think I’m liking this better than the last time I had it. It has a strange taste which I’m guessing is the malted barley. I added a bit of sugar and cream. The coconut is pretty creamy and there is just a tiny bit of cocoa. It is a nice evening cup, but I don’t think it is a rebuy.

drank Crème Brûlée by TWG Tea Company
716 tasting notes

I ordered ten TWG teas from The Urban Tea Merchant for my birthday and they are here to greet me on my return home from summer travels! Happy birthday me! :)

This is the first one I have tried. It smells very rich with a slight caramel scent and a touch of strawberry. I’m getting mostly strawberry for the taste, but it is very mellow and doesn’t have the sharp edge that a lot of strawberry greens have. There is something else there, maybe the caramel? I’m imagining this would be really good with some sugar to perk up and round out the dessert flavors, but for now I’m enjoying this cup plain.

So far I like this, but I’m not really getting the crème brûlée that the name suggests. To be continued and further explored!

Tuscanteal

Strange, Creme Brulee with strawberry notes… I would think caramel and toast sugar would be at the forefront, but I bet with milk and sugar it would perk it up as you said. I love UTM!!

Dustin

Does UTM = TWG? :)

Tuscanteal

Urban tea merchant lol

Dustin

I have been missing a lot of obvious in my life lately. It is a recent curse.

TeaBrat

Happy belated birthday!

Dustin

Thanks! I was the best birthday I have had in years.

I was in Hawaii and spotted this box at a market. It is a rooibos, but I’m not really tasting the rooibos which is fine by me. I added a little sugar. I get a very distinct macadamia nut flavor and a creaminess like young coconut. The two flavors pair well into an almost chocolate like flavor, but it isn’t a very exciting decaf option… at least at the moment. As the cup cools I get a bit of the rooibos dry mouth feeling. I wonder if my opinion will change if I drink this when I’m in a better mood.

The woman working at Dean and Deluca spoiled me with a couple samples of tea! TWG’s Moroccan Mint was one of them! They aren’t kidding when they say the mint is strong, it really is! The sip starts out smooth and mellow, but when you get to the back of it the mint really takes hold and kicks in. I’m guessing this tea would be amazing cold too. Just added a little creamer and it is really quite nice. It mellows out the highest point of the mint kick while still letting the minty flavor be dominant. This is a really nice tea! If the price was right (and this brand tends to be on the pricier side of things) I could see keeping this in stock.

drank Cotton Candy by DAVIDsTEA
716 tasting notes

This is odd. I love carnival/circus themes, so I had to try this, but as I have mentioned before, I am distrustful of tea with sprinkles and candy. I didn’t add any sugar, but this tea has a sweetness of it’s own. I don’t get much on the sip, a little tart on the sides of my tongue, but the back part of the sip starts to taste like cotton candy as does the aftertaste. Afterwards I get that dry mouth rooibos thing happening and then a little sour taste. Not a horrible drink, but not amazing either. Glad I got to try some!

darby

I had this made in store for me, she added a bit of agave and it’s awesome!!! No Rooibos flavor.

Dustin

Hmmmm, I may try adding a sweetener next time and see how I like it. It was a little sweet on it’s own, so I hadn’t thought of adding more. Did you have it hot or cold?

I feel a little eh about this one. It is very apple tasting and there is a little something else that I’m guessing is the maple, but I am really disliking the rooibos flavor. It has that drying effect in the aftertaste. I think it is a little better sweetened, but it’s not something that I’m getting excited about.

Profile

Bio

My name is Dustin and I like tea.

I’m an added flavor kind of tea fan. I want my tea to remind me of cookies and cakes with coconut and almond slices with a hint of chocolate drizzled on top. I want dancing ponies and flying monkeys shooting off fireworks! I like a little sugar in my tea. I love caffeinated tea, but since I limit myself to one cup a day, I have been exploring more rooibos and honeybush teas. Rooibos now = meh and I have upped my caffeine tolerance. BRING ME CAFFEINE!!!!
