Advent day 10. The flavor in this is super light. I get some vanilla. I guess I get a hint of baked cookie, but I have to think about it. A little too delicate for me.

Advent day…. what are we on? 9? This tea smells like red fruit. Strange that we can have a sense of what color fruit might be based on smell when we can’t pinpoint exactly which fruit it is. The steeping instructions suggested a lighter temp, which I went with, but I wonder if I’d get more flavor from a higher temp. I can taste the strawberries and a little bit of raspberries now that I’ve read which fruits are in there. I thought that adding a creamer would heighten the vanilla, but it kind of dulled the flavors in the cup instead. I’ll have to try a resteep at a higher temp.

This looks like a green rooibos/white tea blend. I don’t mind green rooibos as much as red, so I’m glad for that. When dry this tea has an intense blueberry smell, but that fades out pretty quickly once steeped. The blueberry is super light and almost not there. Same with the tea, which I saw only a small amount of. I’m getting a little bit of dry rooibos mouth, but not much. I don’t think I’m into this one. :/

drank A Chocwork Orange by BrutaliTeas
1711 tasting notes

Wasn’t feeling well yesterday morning and day 7’s tea wasn’t sounding good, so I skipped to day 8. Guessing by the name, I had thought this tea would be chocolate orange. I’m getting more of a chai flavor, strong clove. I think that maybe I can taste a tiny bit of orange in the background. There is a depth that could be chocolate, but I don’t taste chocolate. It looked like this had a little bit of rooibos mixed in which I luckily don’t taste. This tea has a strange name for the flavors I’m tasting.

drank China Gunpowder by TeaGschwendner

Advent day 7. This is a cute looking tea. The leaves have been rolled up into adorable little balls of various size. Flavor wise, it’s very subtle. I don’t get much from it. After reading the description I can imagine a hint of chestnut. It’s smooth and slightly sweet, but I’m not finding much too it. :/

drank Une Autre Idée? by THEODOR
1711 tasting notes

Advent day 6. It’s a rooibos, so I get that woodsy soapy taste. On top of that taste is a pleasant red fruit flavor, which is nice. It reminds me of many red fruit green teas that I’ve had, but I can’t put a name on the exact fruit. I’m sure if I had this flavor on another type of tea base I’d like it, but rooibos is a no go for me.

drank The Crowconut by BrutaliTeas
1711 tasting notes

Advent day 6. I’m really liking this tea. I had the first cup without any additions and it had a really good coconut flavor. Coconut is the main flavor, but it’s rounded out by the addition of cocoa which translates to a nutty flavor in my brain. I could distinctly taste the tea base, but I can’t identify what kind of black tea it is. For my second steeping I added some soy creamer and it took the tea to a whole new level adding a richness that I’m loving. I want more.
Also, with my first cup I thought it was only fitting to sit on my porch while drinking this tea and feed the crows that come to see me for breakfast each morning. I’ve been feeding them unsalted peanuts for a few months now and slowly winning them over. They are just starting to come grab the peanuts if I’m sitting still on the porch instead of tossing out a handful and retreating in the house to watch them stealthily through the shutters.

drank Vert du Japan by THEODOR

Advent day 5. This is a super mellow sencha. It doesn’t have that grassy bite that some senchas have. It’s smooth and almost buttery. It’s nice, but sencha isn’t my favored type of tea. I’m not able to find any info for this tea on Theodor’s website. Strange.

drank Jams by BrutaliTeas
1711 tasting notes

Day 5 Advent. Damn you, hibiscus!!!! It’s not full of hibiscus, but it’s enough for me to think “blech!!”. The hib bite was too much when it was hot, but now that it’s cooled things are a little more tolerable. I am amused at the naming of a hibiscus tea “Jams” in honor of “Jaws”. It’s perfect because it steeps up like blood in the water. I’m trying hard to taste past the hibiscus, but it’s so dominating that I can’t. It has this weird metallic tang, like blood (now that I have blood in mind with this tea) and a sour finish. This just reaffirms my hibby hate.

AJRimmer

This one would be especially pleasing to steep up in my manatee infuser. It’s always amusing to watch the red stream from all its holes.

Dustin

LOL! Aftermath of a shark attack in your cup!

AJRimmer – that is fantastic. haha

Why is hibiscus in almost everything herbal or fruity tea? It is becoming a bane of my existence too

Dustin

I suspect that it’s because it can be used to round out the flavor of fruit and give it that tart tang that brings fruit flavors to life. The problem is most blenders use it far to liberally when IMO it should be used in moderation. Stacy knew how to use it subtly in her Butiki blends where you couldn’t even perceive it as hibiscus. She was brilliant with tea.

This is the real advent day 5 tea, not Sencha Claus. Whoops.
Anyways… this is a bright and strong tea! It has a grassy flavor without the bite. It has a light bean taste, but not in an unpleasant way. I’m not super into straight green, but this one is alright.

Bio

My name is Dustin and I like tea.

I’m an added flavor kind of tea fan, but have had a growing appreciation for plain. I want my tea to remind me of cookies and cakes with coconut and almond slices with a hint of chocolate drizzled on top. I want dancing ponies and flying monkeys shooting off fireworks! And no hibiscus. Hibiscus is the devil.
