1711 Tasting Notes

Happy Halloween!!!!
I’m trying to like this tea. I doubled the amount of tea in this cup because previous cups have been light on the flavor. It was still lacking. :( The flavors were still a little weak and it seems like there is something missing to tie it all together and really make it shine. The search for the perfect pumpkin tea goes on.

Hmmm…. this is okay for a rooibos, which is something I’m generally not into. I can taste the rhubarb, but it’s a little light. It seems to pair well with the woody rooibos flavor. It isn’t such an amazing rooibos that it ascends past my rooibos hating bar. I am SO not the one to rate this tea! LOL!

I get what they were going for here. I distinctly taste the chocolate covered honeycomb candy taste they set out to emulate. It was harder to taste when it was hot, but I notice more of the flavor come out as it cools and in the finish of each sip. The thing I’m noticing in the B&B teas are the flavors are weak and that is the same with this tea. If they could only turn the dial up on the flavor a bit, it would be so much more delightful.

I’m really enjoying the teas I ordered from Bird & Blend so far. They are definitely a bit more restrained in their flavoring than some other tea sellers, but I like that. You can’t please everyone though, unfortunately!

It’s true. I’m learning pretty quickly that most of their teas are not for me. I need more than a hint of flavor and having to use my imagination to fill in the rest. Too bad I’m not still in Austin. It would make for an easy pass off of the B&B teas I’m not digging!

I’m not getting too much rooibos in this, which is delightful. The chocolate mint seem to be a little lighter than other teas I have had with similar ingredients. It’s pleasant, but I’m not taken by it.

Just ate Thai food and the flavors are lingering, so this might not be an accurate assessment of this tea! I added a little creamer to my cup. So far this seems like a solid breakfast tea, a little lighter than I prefer. I get hints of malt, it is a little creamy in the finish. I don’t quite get the honey part of it yet tho. I’ll have to try it again sometime with a clean palate.

Hmmmmmmm… I missed the part in the ingredients when I ordered where it said hibiscus. I must have been distracted by the lure of anise. It doesn’t taste as horrible as most teas with hibiscus do, but it has that unmistakable hibby bite that is most unpleasant. I get a nice taste of anise at the front of the sip, but when I swallow and the tea washes over my tongue, I get nothing but hib. A little chili comes out at the end, which I like. I wonder if I can pick the hib out and have a tea that is compatible with my taste buds. Seems like a lot of work. :/

Mixed feelings on this one as I work out the ways to steep this. It smells lovely in the bag, like everything you would ever want in a pumpkin tea. Steeped is another story. I feel like it is a super lite version of what I was smelling in the bag. My cup smells lovely like an actual pumpkin pie, but the taste doesn’t deliver. I feel like I can pick out more of the flavors once the cup has cooled, but it still isn’t what I was hoping for. I had read several good reviews of this tea, so my hopes were high. I’ll keep trying different steeping parameters in the hope that I get a better cup.

There is chili in this tea?! I guess if I am trying really hard I can kind of imagine a whisper of a hint, but it would be a strain. If this was just dark choc chai tea, then they would have an accurately named tea. The flavor is enjoyable as a chocolate chai. Pretty well rounded with prominent chocolate and chai spice notes. It reminds me a bit of Zhi tea’s cacao chai, which I love very much. This is an alright tea, but not something I’d restock with it being so similar to something I already have.

Took a couple sips and was underwhelmed. It perks up a bit when I add some creamer. It has a nice smooth creamy taste on the sip. The banana comes out in the finish. It’s overall a subtle flavor as far as intensity goes. I’m feeling luke warm about this tea, but we’ll see if that changes in the future. B&P teas seem to be a bit hit or miss for me so far. Some teas are really good and others seem lacking for my preferences. I feel like I could steep this tea longer to maybe get more flavor out, but 4m was oversteeped for some of their other blacks. :/

Their teas are fairly hit-or-miss for me as well.

Dustin

I wonder how much of their teas they blend themselves vs. what they get from the larger importers/distributors and if that has anything to do with it.

Mastress Alita

It is my understanding all of B&B’s blends are their original blends. Of course they would have to source their base leaves/ingredients they use to make their blends.

I think they’re all original blends.

Dustin

Well in that case, they can totally up the flavor on their teas! LOL!

I took the plunge with the steep shipping to the states and placed a B&B order with a TON of samples. I ended up with more tisanes than I thought, this being one of them. When I opened the bag, it looked mostly like rosebuds. I had to dump out the bag in a bowl to mix up the contents which had settled. Once steeped this is a BIG bold rose flavor. I can pick up a hint of chocolate that rounds out the taste. I do wish there was more chocolate flavoring to make it more rich and turkish delight like, but the rose is pretty well dialed in as far as the candy goes. There is a slight hint of honey as well. I’m still sorting out how I feel about this cup. I’m intrigued, but don’t quite know what to make of it.

My name is Dustin and I like tea.

I’m an added flavor kind of tea fan, but have had a growing appreciation for plain. I want my tea to remind me of cookies and cakes with coconut and almond slices with a hint of chocolate drizzled on top. I want dancing ponies and flying monkeys shooting off fireworks! And no hibiscus. Hibiscus is the devil.
