I don’t order very much from Della Terra. I’ve largely scratched them off as a generic-artificial-flavor dessert tea shop. I know I am in the minority, as always. My parents both have some favorite teas from DT and sometimes I order on their behalf.

Eight Candles was a tea that I really wanted to try from them when I first got into loose tea in late January. I had just missed the holidays and this tea was sold out. SInce then, I’ve largely discovered that dessert teas aren’t my thing (with the exception of Butiki) Caramel and chocolate in particular never come out good in a tea. But, remembering the excitement I had when I discovered that tea comes in more flavors and forms than “bagged green” (I felt like a hobbit learning that beer comes in Pints! lol) I decided to get this tea in honor of those memories.

It smells so unbelievably good. The best smelling of any DT tea. It’s like fluffy marshmallows and cake frosting. I was hoping so much it would taste the same, hoping so intently I thought that I could will it to happen. But, alas, my powers are not that strong (yet >;) ). The best I can say for the flavor is that it doesn’t offend me and there is absolutely no weird caramel aftertaste (a first!). But it’s still blah. But, that smell, like heaven. I might brew it again sometime anyway just for it. And put extra marshmallows in it like in a hot cocoa. :) I will make this tea work for me, I will.

My Rating System

100 My happiness absolutely depends on it

95 Will definitely repurchase

85: Might repurchase (teas that depend on my mood)

75 Won’t repurchase (but I would drink it again if offered).

65: meh

45: I reluctantly finished a cup.

15: Couldn’t finish a cup.

I simplified my ratings to single numbers rather than ranges because I can’t precisely compare so many teas with a system more detailed than this.

An unrated tea is most often one that I recognize as having significant notable quality, but that does not suit me personally. Sometimes, I leave teas unrated for other reasons, such as I am undecided or I brewed it wrong, etc.

Note: Boiling temp. barely reaches 200 where I am (and a few times it sticks at 195, I assume due to unexplainable shifts in altitude or the position of the moon. . .aliens?. . .).
