34 Tasting Notes

Golden Monkey Imperial from Upton Tea Imports

I’m surprised that I wasn’t crazy about this tea as I was so anxious to try it given all the rave review I’ve gotten about it from fellow tea drinkers.
The tea itself is gorgeous to look at and smells fabulous in the tin. It remindes me of a really good darjeeling in smell. When I first smelled it I was actually more excited to try it!
I may have oversteeped it at around 5 minutes?
It had an almost “green” taste at first, but then I did pick up the caramel. I didn’t think it had any maltiness and I didn’t find it to be a medium bodied tea, I would say it’s a lighter tea. It is smooth, not bitter at all. I didn’t think it paired well with the cookies I had it with.
I am going to try it again with a lesser steep time and pair it instead with fresh fruit.

My Mom LOVES this tea. She kind of turned me onto it. When I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to brew a loose tea I will sometimes throw this into a mug and brew it up. It tastes best with milk and sugar of course. I’m never unhappy with this tea it totally does NOT suck.

Fusion Green and White from Stash Tea Company

This is an alright tea. Kind of bland, but not so bland that it would be considered tasteless. It’s kind of a light floraly sort of flavor. Not bitter at all, and tastes nice with a bit of honey. I wouldn’t recommend it, but if you happen to come across it somewhere give it a try.

Republic Darjeeling from The Republic of Tea

I was surprised by this tea! I got it as a gift and was expecting it to be just “ok” but it was nice. When I’m out of my 2nd flush darjeeling I brew this one until more of my favorite arrives in the mail… And I’m never unhappy with it. :)

Indian Spiced Chai from Twinings
36

Just bought this – still on the search for a quick and easy chai… this is not great, but doesn’t totally suck. It’s kind of weak. You have to drink it really hot, because as it cools the flavor changes and gets kind of icky.

Bengal Spice from Celestial Seasonings

YUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bought a box – what was I thinking??

Never again. It tasted like what would happen if you licked the shelf in a spice closet and chased it with hot water.

Comfort and Joy from The Republic of Tea

This tea fell short of my expectations. It smells great in the tin, but when you brew it the flavor is kind of like a watered down “red hot”… (those little red cinammon candies).
So I’d rate this tea as “meh”
Gave it away.

Vanilla Coconut from The Republic of Tea
34

Bought it, thinking I would like it – no LOVE it, as I love all things coconut… It was kind of like flavored (almost) hot water.
Gave it away.
Still seeking a yummy coconut tea.

Snowy Mountain Jian Tea from Culinary Teas

Not as veggie tasting as other green teas I’ve tried. Kind of floraly.

A very nice Assam. Malty and rich. A bit on the dry side. Good with milk and sugar or even with a slice of lemon peel in the pot and sweetened with honey. I’ve used this Assam to make Chai.

So far my favorite Assam yet.

Lapsang Souchong from Culinary Teas

HOLY DISGUSTINGNESS!

Ok so this was my first attempt with Lapsang Souchong, but OMG! I opened the package to sniff and expected a delightful aroma. Instead I got barbequed dirt… And a case of the dry heaves.

I gave it to the friend who so heartily recommended it. Evidently my review was quite entertaining to her. AND she got some free tea lol.

Never again!

Assam Bukhial TGFOP from Culinary Teas

Rich and delicious tea! A bit malty but not dry at all. I love this two ways, with milk and sugar and also with a slice of lemon peel in the pot, sweetened with honey. A great morning tea for sure!

Dragonwell from Imperial Tea Garden

I bought this thinking I would like it. BLEH, I am just not a fan of green tea. Gave it away. This was not my first attempt at trying to like green tea, but it was the last.

Darjeeling Tukdah TGFOP from Culinary Teas

Nice enough, but a bit light for me. Then again, I’m not a huge fan of first flush darjeeling.

Darjeeling Mim from Pekko Teas
99

A great darjeeling. Kind of fruity. Full bodied. Not my all time favorite darjeeling, but one I enjoy drinking and buy infrequently.

Phoenix Iron Goddess Oolong Tea from Culinary Teas
99

The best Oolong tea I’ve ever had. It’s sweet with a floral finish and aroma. Never bitter. A lovely tea for any time of the day or night – and especially if you’re a fan of Oolong teas. If you’re new to Oolong don’t start out with this one because if you do, all the others will taste terrible!

I have resteeped this twice with good results. They claim you can resteep it more than that but I don’t, mainly because I like a fresh pot of tea.

French Blend from Culinary Teas

We go through so much of this tea! It’s great as a light morning tea, and just as good in the afternoon or even in the evening. I like to serve this one to company because it seems to make everyone happy. It’s my mom’s all time favorite tea. The flowery notes are not overpowering, and it’s not a malty tea either. It’s crisp and clean and just, well, happy.
We drink it black with sugar. Oh – you have to be careful not to oversteep this one. If you do it gets a bit yukky. Five minutes TOPS.

Buckingham Palace Tea from Culinary Teas
99

This is a favorite breakfast tea in our house. It’s a nice robust cup with the flavors of Earl Grey and Jasmine. It has Assam maltiness. I would call this a complex tea, that changes flavor somewhat as it cools. We drink it black with sugar. Not so great iced, it gets a bit cloudy. I have reheated the cooled tea and it’s surprisingly good, it seems to hold its original flavor fairly well.

Earl Grey from Tazo

The WORST Earl Grey I have EVER HAD bar NONE!!! I can’t even describe the heinous taste bud rape that occurred when I tried to drink this stuff OMG. It didn’t even taste like Earl Grey!
I gave the box away to someone I didn’t particularly like.

Earl Grey Lavender from Revolution Tea
100

This was my first ever Earl Grey Lavender experience. I loved it, but quickly moved up to a lose tea. Great for those who want to try out Earl Grey with Lavender. If I could get it locally, I’d buy a box to keep on hand for if I travel… As Earl Grey – especially with Lavender now – is my all time favorite tea of teas.

Sleepytime from Celestial Seasonings
97

The first time I had this tea I was about 18 – this was a very long time ago lol. I drank it by mistake while visiting an Aunt, and loved it! When she told me what it was I logged it to memory and went home and bought my first box. Thus began my love affair with Sleepytime tea.
No other bedtime tea comes close!

Mint Medley (Herb Tea) from Bigelow
99

I’ve been drinking this tea for YEARS. It’s probably my all time favorite mint tea. I’ve tried loose leaf mint teas, and mint teas from other companies, but I always come back to this one. Omg it’s just perfect. Not too minty, smooth, great with milk or without. Makes a great cup of mint iced tea too! Who cares if it’s in a bag!
