1908 Tasting Notes

I grabbed the wrong teabag this morning so I didn’t intend to drink this. One thing I can say in its favour is that it’s very hard to scald this green tea since I used boiling water (I thought it was a black tea) and steeped it for quite awhile. Or it could just be the sourness of the hibiscus is disguising any bitterness

takgoti

Nice break. I’ve started the day off with oversteeped tea before… We’ll just say that I’m bad enough in the waking hour with GOOD tea.

Steeped for 3 min in less-than-boiling water.

This is a light, gentle, and slightly sweet white tea with the bitter citrus taste of bergamot. Bergamot flavouring is about the only time I can stand bitterness in my tea. In this one it’s enough to give the tea some bite, but it isn’t the punch in the face you can get with some earl greys.

drank Eight at the Fort by Harney & Sons
1908 tasting notes

Yay, my Harney & Sons order arrived this morning! does a happy dance

This tea is smooth as silk without any bitterness, and yet the flavour is distinct and not at all weak. This is a tea with presence, it knows it doesn’t have to shout to be noticed.

jennlea

My Harney & Sons order comes tomorrow. Will do my happy dance then! Didn’t pick this tea up though sadly.

TeaCast

We have Harney & Sons bagged variety here at college and it is TERRIBLE. I need to try some of their decent stuff apparently :)

Jillian

@ Tea Cast I’ve never tried their bagged teas so I can’t hazard a guess on their quality, but I’ve loved all their loose-leaf stuff that I’ve tried.

Jillian

@ Jennlea What teas did you get from them? I also ordered Winter White Earl Grey and Yancha Wuyi Oolong.

Cofftea

I’m ALWAYS interested in teas created for a reason/occasion. I just have to try them even if I doubt I’ll like them.

Drank this with a touch of honey again. When it’s brewing it has an almost berry-like scent to it which is very pleasent.

Despite being a bagged tea this re-steeps very well.

Must get a pear tea. Must get a pear tea. Must get a pear tea. I need to tattoo this somewhere.

Brains….. BRRRAAAAAAAAIIIIINNNNNS!

In case you hadn’t guessed I stayed up all night studying for a midterm. Guh. At least this tea is helping me perk up a little bit.

I feel your pain.

Side note: ever played this? [I will forwarn you, it’s extremely addictive. Might want to put it off until after midterms.] http://www.popcap.com/games/pvz/

Now I totally have Jonathan Coulton’s RE: Your Brains stuck in my head. Go Zombies!

Minty tea is minty.

I can’t really taste any tarragon unfortunately, so this is basically pure mint. Although the very faint, slightly herby taste I get on the back of my tongue might be tarragon. If you squint and don’t look too hard.

drank Lemon Ginger Snap by Teas Etc
1908 tasting notes

My stomach was a little unsettled after supper and drinking this made me feel much better. I added a bit of extra green tea so its taste is more distinct than last time.

takgoti

Eventually, I need to grow some metaphorical balls and try mixing tea.

I ♥ NewYorkCiTEA

Ditto. I’m worried about wasting good tea by making bad blends.

Jillian

You can always start with mixing herbals. I grow my own mint, camomille, lemon balm, and lavender and make medicinal teas out of them. It’s lots of fun and the results usually aren’t that bad tasting.

Auggy

I only started mixing tea when I didn’t have enough of one tea to make a full cup. And then half the time I mixed it with Adagio’s cream tea (which is a nice add, btw). Now I’m more adventurous. And I’m out of cream.

drank Organic Iced Green Tea by Tazo

I swear Tazo has ben adding more and more sweetener to their bottled iced teas recently. I still enjoy the distinct but not overpowering taste of mint and the touch of lemon in this tea. It’s very refreshing and helps to clear my head.

It was perfectly fine before, so I don’t see why they felt the need to dump a tone of extra sugar in all of a sudden. >:(

Appealing to the general public, most likely. Bah.

Jillian

Bah, I hope Adagio and all the other good-quality tea suppliers never sell out to the man, especially if this is the result. grumbles

takgoti

Grumble grumble grumble something about corporate bullshit. We need a front porch and some cans to throw at passers by.

Cofftea

I agree!!! It should say “sweet” or “sweetened” in the name if it is!

ms.aineecbeland

I tend to not like sugar either, but I did not notice it being sweeter or more-so. I was surprised to find it in database already since folks only review real teas. Perhaps you should try Numi Teas, I am certain it has no sugar the one I tried few weeks ago. It is on the bland side but good when not wanting sugar. Best.

Bio

I’m a university student in her twenties who’s currently working her way toward a Bachelor of Natural Resource Science degree. I love both science and science-fiction and I’m a history nut on top of that. Maybe I should just call myself a nerd and leave it there. ;)

I’ve been drinking tea since I was young but it’s only in the past couple years that I’ve become interested in the good-quality stuff.
