time for an update!
tea is a many splendoured thing, multi layered. it is both complex and simple, sometimes my preferences make sense, other times it’s far more unpredictable. the smells and tastes bring me surprise, take me back in memory and offer solace from a random and frenetic world.
i tend to sugar and cream my tea, but not always…. if a blends is juuuust right then i’ll take it clear and subvert my cream and sugar habit in honour of the mixing brilliance.
i admire confident tea companies, companies that stand by their products and demonstrate exemplary customer service. i have no issue paying a premium for a good product, but i like it when a the company offers a sample and doesn’t expect their customers to buy exclusively on faith. maybe they offer a sample, maybe they offer a customer satisfaction guarantee… customer consideration is definitely part of my professional admiration and often mitigates whether or not i will buy someone’s product.
my top three favourites? mariage freres, verdant teas and butiki teas, all for different reasons. i admire the companies and their creative genius, but most of all for their dedication to both customers and the creative process.
because it really should be said: thank you to the devoted tea lovers that built and maintain this site. what a wonderful and positive forum!
personal rating system:
anything below 75 i am unlikely to buy and more likely (if i have a bunch stuck in my cupboard) to cold steep and sugar to death to make it go away.
HOWEVER: the higher numbers do not mean i necessarily like a tea, it just means i respect the accomplishment.
how can you tell the difference between loving it and respecting it? if i love it then i’m attaching links to music and pictures, using immense metaphors and generally being a drama llama.
if i respect it then my break down will be be much less personal and far more technical. i think it’s important to acknowledge an impressive effort, to recognize accomplishment, even if it’s not exactly what i want to keep in my cupboard.
