Medium steep: I taste earth, medium camphor, medium mushrooms, medium minerals, strong Forrest floor and strong fall leaves.

All in all, this tea is still amazing.

I still rate this tea a 100! Definately recommend this both western and gongfu style! :D

You make this sound gorgeous! – I’ve never tried brewing puerh up western style, I thought it would make the tea way too strong and stewed-tasting, but I might try it out on a couple of samples I have – what sort of parameters do you use for that?

Kirkoneill1988

well i suggest you don’t use more than 5g of this nan jian phoenix tea (for western style). 1 min steep should be good. but remember, whats good for me may not be good for you, so experiment. as for other shou. its really an experiment.

i hope this help. im not really good at explaining this :(

janchi

‘Course you are! That’s exactly what I meant – how long you steep it for :) I usually go for very short steeps getting a bit longer each time, but I’m keen to try out the way other people brew their teas, to get a new perspective (and possibly an even more delicious cup!) :)

Kirkoneill1988

that’s a good plan :D

an amazing tea!:

when i smell the tea leaves dry, i smell earth, mustyness and a bit of dui wui (fermentation smell).

when i smell the leaves wet, the smells are intensified (minus the mustyness).

when i smell the brewed tea, i smell some earth (quite mellow)

when i taste the brewed tea, i taste light earth.

the color of the brewed tea is a amberish brown.

i rate this tea a 100 because its mellow.

even though the description says its very strong and has a camphor taste, i dont really notice that. oh well i still enjoy this tea! :D (note: ill try steeping this longer and add a new tasting note).

I used my new teapot today.

When I smell the leaves dry, they smell musty and very smokey like a BBQ or campfire.

When I smell the leaves wet, I smell honey, spices and lots of smoke like a BBQ or campfire.

Light steep:

The color of the brewed tea is a light yellow. I taste flowers, light honey, light spices and little to no smoke.

Medium steep:

The color of the brewed tea is a medium yellow. I taste little to no flowers. I also taste medium smoke, honey and spices.

Strong steep:

The color of the brewed tea is a dark yellow. I taste strong smoke, honey and spices. No flower taste.

This tea is a lot similar to 2013 yunnan sourcing autumn ye sheng.

I rate it a 100 because it’s just awesome and tasty!
