26 Tasting Notes

Honey Pear from Golden Moon Tea
55

I’m not sure what to think of this yet. The smell of it is so strong that my clothes even smelled like it after the car ride home. It was quite pleasant at first, but then it just got stuck in my nose to the point that it’s sickening.

The tea itself isn’t bad at all, really. It’s very sweet, and the pear and honey flavors are very prominent, even in the resteep. I think it will end up being one of those teas I pull out when I need something interesting.

Mocha Hazelnut from Montana Tea & Spice Trading LLC
100

I finally made it back to Missoula to replenish my tea stash, and I picked up a sample of this at Butterfly Herbs. Everything I’ve tried from this company I’ve loved.

It must be the carob that gives this the mocha flavor and aroma. There are lots of chocolatey overtones as well. I feel like I should be getting the coffee jitters, but there’s no caffeine (or the bitterness coffee has, ew)! The hazelnut is there, but very subtle.

If you like mocha, you’ll love this. Even better than mocha in my opinion!

Camellia Sinensis from Nerada
87

Super bummed today. This cheers me up a bit with some almond milk.

Herbal Revive Tea from Twinings
80

I think vanilla teas are really growing on me. This one was actually pretty good. I thought the blackcurrant would overpower everything, but instead the vanilla was the predominant flavor with just a touch of blackcurrant. I’m not a fan of teas that are too fruity, so this was perfect!

Aztec Sweet Chili from Yogi Tea
100

Okay, you know what…I just absolutely LOVE this stuff. It’s so flavorful and unique, and the color is this beautiful bright orange hue. It may be caffeine free, but the cayenne energizes me somehow, so I usually drink this as a morning tea.

Vanilla Chai from Bigelow
80

Tasty as usual. This time I tried re-steeping it, which brought out a completely different flavor. The vanilla flavor was gone, leaving a nice spicy chai taste in its place. Very interesting indeed…

Perfect Peach from Bigelow
89

I love peach anything, so this is yummy. But again, the artificial flavoring is a turn-off for me.

Candy Cane Lane from Celestial Seasonings
91

It tastes like a candy cane. A DELICIOUS candy cane. Yup.

Ginger Twist from Lipton
65

Mmm, gingery! If you like ginger, you’ll like this. It’s almost to the point of spicy…and I steeped it in 20oz of water too. On the other hand, I steeped the crap out of it as I do with most herbal teas…

Dandelion Root from Alvita
12

Tastes as gross as it sounds. On the plus side, I’m detoxified or something.

Orange, Passionfruit & Jasmine Green from Lipton
69

It’s actually not bitter!! (All the green teas I’ve ever tried have been bitter.) Hopefully it won’t keep me up all night as green tea often does. Yes I know it’s only 11am, but I’m extremely hypersensitive to caffeine…gah.

But yes, this is quite pleasant to drink. I think it’s the jasmine and passionfruit I’m tasting the most, both of which I’m usually a pretty big fan of.

Tipu's Microground Instant Chai from Tipu's Chai
99

This chai is the real deal, blended only 20 miles from my house! This family used to own Tipu’s Indian Restaurant in Missoula, which unfortunately went out of business a few years ago. Their food was amazing, and so is their chai.

Ceylon Apricot Ginger from Celestial Seasonings
65

Discontinued tea found in the back of my mom’s tea cupboard this morning, last bag in the box. It’s actually pretty good. The apricot and ginger flavors are distinct, but not overpowering.

Aztec Sweet Chili from Yogi Tea
100

I bought this because it sounded unique, and I got just that! The cayenne was a lot of fun, and there were a nice mix of interesting flavors. However, I think the licorice was a bit overpowering…and I was hoping it would taste more chocolate-y. I added ~1/8 tsp cocoa to it, which helped a bit.

Daintree from Daintree Tea
74

Picked up this teabag from one of my hotel rooms during my stay in Oz, and decided to try it this morning. I’m telling you, this country has the best teas ever. Earthy, rich, aromatic, flavorful…so much flavor, in fact, that I’m planning on re-steeping it later. I used one teabag for 20 oz water/splash soymilk and it was still black as can be.

Organic Peppermint from Nerada
63

All you could expect from a peppermint tea. I bought this when I visited the Nerada plantation on my trip to Australia. Just make sure not to over steep, or it gets bitter.

Sweet Cinammon Spice from Tazo
100

I tried this tea at a little coffee cart in Spokane during First Night to keep me warm. It was sooo good. My mom even commented on how good it smelled. Lots of flavors, and an interesting sweet aftertaste. However, I haven’t been able to find this tea in stores, so I haven’t been able to try it since.

Calm from Tazo
30

Hum…glorified dirt? I dunno, just not much of a chamomile fan I guess. Didn’t really spark the interest of my taste buds.

Licorice Spice from Stash Tea Company
73

Call me weird, but I actually really like the sugary aftertaste of this. It’s pretty good stuff, but I feel like it needs something…not sure what…

Ginger Snappish from Bigelow
74

The ginger in this tea is a lot mellower than other ginger teas I’ve had, which is a welcome change. Also, the lemon adds the perfect touch. Very tasty!

Vanilla Chai from Bigelow
80

Not bad for a bag chai. I tend to like spicier chais, which this has more of a mellow flavor, but I think the vanilla makes up for it. The fact that it has artificial flavoring is kind of a turn-off, though.

Evening In Missoula from Montana Tea & Spice Trading LLC
94

The first thing anyone will notice about this tea is the heavenly aroma. It’s this wintergreen-anise type smell that will smell up your whole kitchen if you leave the bag open! It doesn’t taste quite as good as it smells, but it is still one of my favorite teas ever. Plus, I love everything about Missoula, and this tea is no exception.

Madagascar Vanilla Red from Celestial Seasonings
100

This is my first rooibos, and I must say I’m addicted. The rooibos is earthy and mellow, while the vanilla adds richness and a hint of sweet. It’s just the perfect tea.

Pomegranate Pizzaz from Bigelow
10

No tea here. Might as well call it watered-down juice.
