SPOILER ALERT!

On the seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me a mug full of … Lime Jello Salad tea.

This was another tea on my wishlist from 52 Teas so thank you Frank for including it in the pack. One of my favourite desserts is keylime pie so I was hoping this would be sweetly limey. I had a flash back just then of being called a limey when I was in Las Vegas earlier this year. Anyway enough with my memories, lets get to the tasting already.

This is my second cup of the day :) Upon opening the packet I was drawn in to the super strong fruity citrus fragrance. it’s divine! I couldn’t put my finger on the smell until I read that it contains pineapple and then it clicked into place, it does indeed smell more of pineapple than lime but the two are very similar. I wouldn’t have agreed before today that pineapple could be similar in any way to lime other than they are both fruits but Frank has somehow managed it. Like some sort of crazy willa wonka sweet. Crazy Frank tea perhaps would suffice?

Since it’s a green tea I shall brew this with warm water and for only a short steep. This is mostly what I was testing with my first cup.

The tea once brewed reminds me of citrus/fruit sherbet as it’s super fruity and super sweet in fragrance. Amazing!

Taste wise it’s still rather pineappley but again there is a definite citrus sour tang beneath the sweet fruit. It’s naturally sweet enough that it can easily be enjoyed without sugar and the green tea is not harsh/bitter in the slightest. It also has a tutti frutti vibe going on.

It’s a delicious combination that has added magic and whimsy into my lonely day. I hope you all enjoy your tea as much as I did. :) And if I don’t speak to anyone of you before the day then Merry Christmas to all.

Spoiler Alert!!!

On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me a mug full of … Graveyard Mist tea.

This was on my must try list from 52 Teas and I am extremely thrilled to be trying it. Green tea + spearmint (my favourite mint) = magic in my opinion and that is why it was on my list.

Smell wise once brewed it’s very spearminty and refreshing in a sweet way. It also tastes that way too: sweet, minty and a little vegetal. Any fan of mint would like this blend. The blend as a whole is somewhat smoky/misty in a strange yet satisfying way, possibly because it’s not overly minty but is lighter than you would expect.

I love it :D

I’m watching a generic Christmas film and I got the sudden urge to drink a gaiwan of black tea. So my hand goes into my large bag of Teavivre samples and I pulled this one out. My husband is having his work party tonight so I am on my own all day :(

The tea is made with small leaves that have been thinly rolled and dried. They have a dry earthy smell.

Gaiwan 3oz Tea:7g 6 steeps: rinse,15s,25s,45s,1m10s,1m30s,2m 90ºC/194ºF

Steep one – 15 seconds
The tea soup is honeyed brown in colour with a sweet, earthy and slightly floral tone. It does taste sweet and malty to my delight with no bitterness and of fair strength.

Steep two – 25 seconds
I’m starting to pick up a musky deep fragrance now. Malty and sweet still and very rich but still smooth.

Steep three – 45 seconds
Increasing in strength and becoming maltier and very thick and earthy.

Steep four – 1 minute 10 seconds
The colour reminds me of pu erh as it has that brown/red glow. Very sweet …reminds me of marmite a little.

Steep five – 1 minute 30 seconds
This has weakened somewhat and has increased it’s floral flavour again, it’s like jasmine but earthier.

Steep six – 2 minutes
No malt or richness to speak of anymore but it’s still sweet and floral.

I love Yunnan tea’s and straight away I could tell that this was one of them. It has the lovely strong, malty trademark that Yunnan’s usually have which is a pure bonus. On the most part it was rich and smooth but very balanced and clean.

Admittedly not one of my favourite Yunnan’s as the smell is a little too musky for my liking but it was a pleasant and smooth drink. It’s amazing to think that such small leaves can create such large flavour and aroma.

On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me a mug full of … Caramel Pumpkin Cheesecake Tea. This is the first time during the 12 Teas box that I opened a tea that I already own. I did think that this one would make it into the box as it’s seasonal for Autumn/early Winter time.

It’s a nice tea but vastly improved with aid of sugar and milk. I have been craving a cup of this tea for the last week and kept meaning to make myself a cup so it’s befitting to be reminded. :)

The sugar enhances the caramel and cheesecake effect which is the one element it lacks in when having it plain. Then the milk then brings creaminess into the flavours and smooths out the black tea.

Drinking this with home made short bread :) Yummy

drank Earl Black by 52teas

Spoiler alert!

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me a mug full of… Earl Black tea.

I admit that I did cheat with this one and opened it an hour before it officially turned 17th Dec. I’ve had a busy day at work and rushed straight off afterwards for a family meal so this is the only chance I have had to try it.

As I tore open the bag with naughty delight I encountered a very fruity blend of blackcurrant, bergamot and something sweet like apple. An interesting combination, I love Earl Grey as does my husband and this mix blew our mind. Very imaginative!

Once brewed this becomes pale yellow/green in colour with a gentle blackcurrant breeze. This tea is a little different to something I would usually try, though I am a fan of bergamot I am particular about blackcurrant. The white tea is a little floral and very light which is aided with a soft blackcurrant flavour that was very fresh and also light. The bergamot is the most subtle but it is noticeable at times which stops it from being just a hot blackcurrant tea.

The whole cup is a delicate mixture of fruit and flowers that leaves a wonderful fresh and sweet taste in my mouth. It’s also helping to reduce my stomach ache from the large meal I managed to stuff myself with (vegetarian toad in the hole with mashed potato and guiness gravy). Super wintery. :) Thanks Frank.

drank Sun and Cloud Mist by 52teas

SPOILER ALERT!

On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me a mug full of … sun and cloud mist tea.

I have been waiting all day to try and not be the first person to blab the third tea of the 52 Teas 12 days of Christmas box but it’s almost 9pm here and I’m off to bed soon. I have been drinking this throughout the day which has given me a while to contemplate the blend properly. Plus I have to mention the kitten on the label is adorable!

My first thought when I opened the packet was that it smells very similar to Gooey Butter Cake which also has lemon myrtle. The main difference seems to be that this tea is green and the GBC is black. But they both have the same creamy lemon smell.

Once brewed they do still have a very similar smell and taste but this is a much lighter version than GBC and a little fresher tasting. Judging this tea without comparing is hard to do.

Smell: Creamy lemon
Taste: Light and greenly fresh with creamy and slightly sweet lemon. The green tea is of nice quality with no bitterness which makes me think this would be delicious as an iced tea. I am using my last cups of this with my husband though as he liked it so I don’t have enough to test that theory :(

This was on my list of tea’s to try from Frank so I am glad I had this opportunity but since I have a pack of Gooey Butter Cake and am used to that one and with this being so similar I don’t think I’m won over by it. I do like it don’t get me wrong but I just wished it was a little different.

hmm now I think I def wouldn’t like the GBC

I feel like the Gooey Butter Cake is way too lemony.

KittyLovesTea

@ Rebecca Lynn
I agree with you that it’s over lemony for what it’s supposed to be. When I drink it I just think of it as a creamy lemon tea instead of a cakey tea. I like lemon though so it was not a huge problem for me. :)

drank Orange by Nothing But Tea
1379 tasting notes

With my decorations now up (mostly…we some how misplaced our tree and are without one this year) and me and my husband are sat down happy with our lazy decorating skills we are theatrically dying of thirst. Then with my new found Christmas frame of mind (which is easier now with the decorations up) I thought about Christingles and the fun that was to be had around this time as a child.

Since orange was already on my mind I thought I had might as well enhance our Christmas experience with a mug of orange tea. As I opened the packed a very strong orange fragrance uplifted me. Brown in colour with the same sweet orange fragrance, this feels like a treat. :)

“Yummy yummy noo noo” is what my sister would say when she was a child when she liked something and that phrase came instantly to mind when I took a sip. The orange is sweet, a little waxy and citrus fresh with the black tea making it a thicker and earthier blend. It remains the same strength throughout with no bitterness.

A very nice orange tea that features both orange rind and orange leaf to create a delicious all around orange black tea. I may have to buy some more of this. :)

sounds delish!

It’s late I know but my husband finally got the Christmas decorations down from the attic and all it took was a week of harassing him to do so. :/

I need a cup of tea before attempting to decorate my house with an appropriate amount of decorations and I immediately thought about the samples I got from this company. Chosen to continue my ‘something fruity’ mood as of late thanks to Frank from 52 Teas and his breakfast smoothie blend.

As I opened the bag for a quick sniff I was met with a sweet fruity melody with a mango and pomegranate medley going on. Very interesting.

Brewed for the recommended time and length this has created a light yellow tea soup that smells of sweet and slight sour fruit. The green tea is nice and mellow with only a touch of bitterness but unfortunately the website doesn’t say the ingredients so I can’t tell you which green tea it is. Behind the green tea is a subtle fruitiness that is both sweet and slightly tart/sour but it’s a nice gentle balance.

This is definitely something I will drink but I’m not so sure I would ever specifically crave it, it’s your basic fruity green tea with the only novelty being that this did sort of taste like pomegranate.

Profile

Bio

I’m 34 years old from Leicester, England named Kayleigh.

I started off many years ago drinking herbal and fruit teas which over time peaked my interest in trying new types. Eventually I began to import and sample many different teas and cultures which I still do today. My life goal is to try as many teas and ways of having tea as possible.

Tea wise my cravings change constantly from pu erh one month to jasmine green to the next and so on.

I also enjoy watching Japanese Anime and horror films.

I am always up for tea swaps so if you see anything in my virtual cupboard then please contact me.

A short list to help swapping with me easier though honestly I am not fussy and am willing to try anything. Plus the notes below are usually, sometimes I love a tea that has an ingredient I tend to dislike and other times I hate a tea that I thought I would love.

Likes: Any fruit but especially melon and orange, vanilla, all tea types (black, green, white etc), nuts (any), flowers, ginger, chai.

Dislikes: Licorice, aniseed, clove, eucalyptus, lavender.

My rating system
I have my own way of rating teas that makes each one personal. I have different categories, I rate each tea depending on what it is made of. For example: I rate green teas in a different way to black teas or herbal teas. So black, white, green, Pu Erh, Rooibos, Oolong, blends and tisanes all have their own rating system. That way I can compare them with other teas of the same or similar type before for an adequate rating. And when I do give top marks which is very rare I am actually saying that I would love to drink that tea all day, every day if possible. It’s a tea that I would never turn down or not be in the mood for. So while I agree that no tea is 100% perfect (as nothing is) I am saying that it’s as close as it comes to it. After all, in my book the perfect teas (or close to perfect anyway) are ones that I could drink all the time. That is why you will find a high quality black or Oolong will not have as high a score as a cheap flavoured blend, they are simply not being compared in the same category.
