drank Perfect Peach by Bigelow
1379 tasting notes

I picked this up from Wallmart in Las Vegas earlier in the year. Today felt like a perfect peach day so I tried a hot mug of it whilst at work.

This is honestly a beautiful tasting tea that is very peachy and sweet but at a perfect balance. It does say the peach is made using artificial flavours which is a personal dislike for me as I prefer natural flavours but it’s still very pleasant. Smells as nice as the flavour and when brewed it leaves a wonderful dark amber nectar.

I think this would make an amazing iced tea.

This was the right choice for this mornings cup. A nice Earl Grey without sweetener or creamer it gives me such a wonderful relaxing feeling per sip.

Plus I have an announcement to make to my friends, I am now a grandmother. My Red Platy fish has finally given birth to some beautiful babies :) What better way to celebrate than with a cup of tea :)

(See my other note for a more detailed description of this tea).

Hahahaha! After “grandmother” I stopped reading and thought, “How. could. you. possibly. be…Oh fish babies!” You have definitely earned that cup of tea! :))

I have tried Dilmah caramel tea (which I was not impressed with) and Dilmah original black tea (which was average on my ranking) so I am not holding my breath for this type.

Whist brewing the scent of rose filled my nostrils which gave me some hope towards a nice cup of tea. It smells so fresh and sweet, almost like Turkish Delight.

It tastes like Turkish Delight too, quite strong but nice tasting. The rose is by far the strongest but you can notice some vanilla, I think it would be nicer with more vanilla however. Still it’s quite nice, sweet, floral, fragrant….there is just something wrong with it that I cannot put my finger on.

I am leaning towards not purchasing any Dilmah teas. Perhaps that is good, and I can save money for other teas.

I have been a good girl and done my house cleaning for the day so I deserve a lovely cup of pu erh tea. This was another one chosen at random from my pu erh flavoured samples from Yunnan.

The tea looks lovely with it’s dark coloured tea leaves and light shell looking olives mixed in. The contrast is just wonderful whilst cutting and preparing.

Firstly I can see that the tea is ripe as it leaves a wonderful red coloured tea and from the smell it smells like a strong pu erh. I cannot tell any difference between the smell alone yet but I did see the olive when I was brewing it so I know it’s there.

Again fresh but strong and slightly sweet, this is a nice pu erh. The olive is hard to taste but it is possible to notice the sweet sourness of them in the after taste. Again it’s very subtle and it takes a lot to truly identify it.

I wouldn’t say this was a ground breaking, must have pu erh but it’s a little different. The strength is what sells it for me, without that I don’t think it would really be any different from your standard ripe. The olive would be too strong for raw, yet very subtle for ripe (I hope you understand what I am saying).

A nice drink but I have had better pu erh.

I can find very little about this being a tea and only a little as being a rare plant.

‘Glutinous rice fragrance tea
Polished glutinous rice fragrance tea is made by mixing wild Semnostachya menglaensis H. P. Tsui into Yunnan large-leaf tea. Its tea water is red and transparent, and it tastes sweet and mellow. It also has the effects of clearing heat and removing toxicity, etc.’

This was an import I did from Yunnan as part of 50 samples of various flavoured pu erh. The first thing that hit me when I was brewing was the smell. I knew nothing about it when brewing but the smell made me search for it to see exactly what it contains. It’s true that this tea does smell like basmati rice, or some sort of unsweetened popcorn. It’s not unpleasant nor pleasant just very unusual.

It is also indeed a very dark red despite the 30second steeping time (after the initial pre rinse ritual). Also a note that this tea is ripe and also grade A. (I do have this same combination in raw but I have not yet tried it).

My love for pu erh has grown and grown so this tea has truly stimulated my senses and I am shivering with delight. It’s just so unusual…. will it stand up to my expectations?

So far yes it does. This tea is very strong tasting but still light and pleasant. It still tastes like pu erh but similar to the smell there is this ricey tone in the background. You can definitely tell that this is ripe, it smells earthy and thick but still stays mellow. A great example for those trying to tell the difference between ripe and raw. I still have no preference between ripe and raw.

I have roughly two or three cups worth of this left. My mind is blown… all I can think is WOW.

This was a free sample that came with my natural tangerine pu erh. The age makes it very appealing to me as all the information I can find states that the longer you leave the pu erh the better and this will certainly be the oldest that I have tried.

I do like rinsing pu erh before hand as well, seeing the brewing of it as a beautiful tradition.

The colour is very dark and looks like coca cola (which someone else has said as well) but it truly does. It still has the soft yet pungent fragrance of pu erh but you can certainly smell a little more strength to it thanks to the age.

Ah a lovely pu erh. Very classic in taste but with that little oomph that makes it special. Smoky and nutty with a little darkness but still light and floral. It still tastes fresh considering it’s 12 years old. Wow when this tea was made I was only 12 years old….that’s a scary thought.

I suggest anyone who likes pu erh should try this tea so you can experience a different side to this wonderful tea. I have roughly 5 or 6 more drinks to make out of my sample and I may have to buy some when I run out (which will be quite quickly).

I believe I only have one of these teabags and it’s the perfect morning for some Jasmine Green. I need to relax and do some work.

Right so this looks like a nice enough green tea in colour and it smells lovely thanks to the Jasmine. Fresh smelling considering it’s bagged.

The green tea is subtle in taste and the jasmine is mild with a stronger after taste. It’s very pleasant and that’s a real surprise. I think the steeping time is perfect because any stronger it would taste too sour. It freshens the breath wonderfully as well.

I prefer something like Pu Erh blended with Jasmine but this is an easier substitute (since it’s pre bagged).

Another morning, another tea. This time I went for Earl Grey as even my husband will share a drink of this tea (he is a regular black tea kind of guy). We both love the bergamot smell and taste so Earl Grey is a super choice for us.

Opening the foil pack was like being in heaven, a very strong but perfect smelling bergamot filled my nostrils and was the perfect way to wake me up. Honestly words cannot describe the smells beauty.

Tasting wise it’s very fresh and since my husband is used to pre bagged Earl Grey I asked if he could taste any difference and he said that he could, loose leaf is fresher. So I am glad that it’s not just me that finds that :) Bless him.

If you like Earl Grey tea then I would certainly try this brand, although it’s Tesco (a large chain supermarket brand) I was surprised by how nice it is. It is cheap as well so another plus.

The bergamot is strong in this tea but not overpowering in taste, it has a very good balance.

Sorry I may not make much sense this morning as I had trouble sleeping last night and I am still exhausted (had to get up to get ready to go shopping, it turns out my cats aren’t happy with their complete dry food anymore :/ ). So let me say everything in short for clarity:

1. Fresh smelling and tasting
2. Cheap but high quality
3. Scrumptious

Generally, I’m not one for flavored teas, but I do like Earl Grey. Good review.

Profile

Bio

I’m 34 years old from Leicester, England named Kayleigh.

I started off many years ago drinking herbal and fruit teas which over time peaked my interest in trying new types. Eventually I began to import and sample many different teas and cultures which I still do today. My life goal is to try as many teas and ways of having tea as possible.

Tea wise my cravings change constantly from pu erh one month to jasmine green to the next and so on.

I also enjoy watching Japanese Anime and horror films.

I am always up for tea swaps so if you see anything in my virtual cupboard then please contact me.

A short list to help swapping with me easier though honestly I am not fussy and am willing to try anything. Plus the notes below are usually, sometimes I love a tea that has an ingredient I tend to dislike and other times I hate a tea that I thought I would love.

Likes: Any fruit but especially melon and orange, vanilla, all tea types (black, green, white etc), nuts (any), flowers, ginger, chai.

Dislikes: Licorice, aniseed, clove, eucalyptus, lavender.

My rating system
I have my own way of rating teas that makes each one personal. I have different categories, I rate each tea depending on what it is made of. For example: I rate green teas in a different way to black teas or herbal teas. So black, white, green, Pu Erh, Rooibos, Oolong, blends and tisanes all have their own rating system. That way I can compare them with other teas of the same or similar type before for an adequate rating. And when I do give top marks which is very rare I am actually saying that I would love to drink that tea all day, every day if possible. It’s a tea that I would never turn down or not be in the mood for. So while I agree that no tea is 100% perfect (as nothing is) I am saying that it’s as close as it comes to it. After all, in my book the perfect teas (or close to perfect anyway) are ones that I could drink all the time. That is why you will find a high quality black or Oolong will not have as high a score as a cheap flavoured blend, they are simply not being compared in the same category.
