3557 Tasting Notes

Decaf Exclusive Black from Q Leaf Tea Company (Quintessential Leaf Tea Company)
85

I am surprised by this decaf! It doesn’t taste like decaf! It has a rich, malty, baked taste that is so delicious, and had I not known it was decaf (because, well, I brewed it), I wouldn’t have guessed it. It does not have that somewhat thinner body and taste that is sometimes a characteristic of decaf teas.

This is rich and flavorful. Very nice flavor.

Thanks to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me some of this!

Health Juice from Shui Tea
82

Thanks to Paul M Tracy for sending me a bit of this tea to try!

I had originally set my timer for 5 minutes but when it hit 4 minutes, I saw how dark red it had become and I feared that I would have an overly hibiscus-y tea, so I stopped the infusion at 4 minutes. I am glad I did. I taste a very fruity tisane now, but if it had steeped longer, I think I would have tasted more of the hibiscus and as it is, I am only getting faint hibiscus notes.

The aroma is primarily eucalyptus which I happen to like but I can see it coming off as medicinal to some.

I am getting a very pleasant backdrop of apple and carrot which provides a very smooth, lightly sweet, even “surface” for the bright citrus notes of this tea. Every once in a while, the flavor of the eucalyptus will reveal itself. I am getting very little from the hibiscus – just an occasional note of tart. The beetroot gives a nice sweetness.

I actually like this quite a bit. Much better than I thought I would!

Snow Dragon from Imperial Tea Garden
96

Oh wow! This is probably the best white tea that I’ve ever had! It’s amazing!

Sweet with floral sharpness that comes off with just a little bitter bite. It amazes me how much this white tea fills the palate with it’s complex flavors.

Delightful. So good. I want more.

PS: Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me this!

Caramelized Pear from Zhena's Gypsy Tea
84

I love this tea! I previously reviewed it here:

http://www.teareviewblog.com/?p=11228

Sweet, lovely, and light. Yummy caramel with pear… reminiscent of baked pears, but without the spice. Personally, I might like this even more with a little spice, but it’s really good as is!

Joyeux Noël from Lupicia
87

Yum! This tea tastes JUST like roasted chestnuts. There is a light bitter nuttiness that is followed by a rich, creamy sweetness…

This is so good! A great tea for those of us who aren’t very good at roasting our own chestnuts!

Hot Buttered Banana Bread from 52teas
94

OK… I’m having that second cup now.

I really like this. The banana is sweet, a subtle nutty flavor from the walnut, and a nice bakey taste to it too. Creamy smooth buttery finish. Yum yum yum yum yum!

Now, I’m off to write a review for the Tea Review Blog!

Hot Buttered Banana Bread from 52teas
94

Today was a great mail day! I not only got this tea but also my 12 days sampler. The sampler is adorable, and I am just itching to get started on it… I’m even trying to make the time go faster … today while at the store, I tried writing the check for the 9th rather than the 8th!

Anyways… the smell of the tea is AMAZING… it smells like fresh, hot banana bread. Yummmmmmmmm

Oh wow! This is yum. Since I am enjoying this with my lunch, I am going to hold off on the review, because I’ve got a lot of different flavors going on right now. I guess I’ll just have to brew myself a second cup later. Oh, the torture!

Peaches & Cream Black Flavored Tea from Zoomdweebie's Tea Bar
92

I think I’ve tried this one before, but I hadn’t logged it. Having some more this morning (yes, I know it’s not morning, but it is for me).

I am a little surprised by the other tasting notes for this tea, because I can taste the peaches and cream. They meld together quite nicely. I don’t taste the black tea quite as much as I do the peaches and cream… it’s a very nice tea though… perhaps one of my favorites from the mystery boxes I purchased.

Glendale Estate White Tea from Octavia Tea
83

Finishing off the last I have of this … and it is one that I will miss. It’s a very good white tea.

Cranberry Green Tea from The Tea Nation
81

Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me some of this tea to try!

It has a nice aroma – a little soft but smells nicely of cranberry and also has a light, fresh leafy fragrance in the background. It has a good flavor – clean green tea taste, light on the astringency, and a pleasant sweet/tart taste from the cranberry. Nothing overwhelming, a very good, light tasting tea.

Jingle Bells from Lupicia
86

This SMELLS so GOOD! Yum!

Citrus notes with a creamy undertone. A lot like a creamsicle – with tea! And as good as it smells, it tastes even better. The citrus tones are sweet with just enough tart to keep it interesting but not too much. The creamy yogurt flavor gives it a smooth, rich taste and texture. The black tea is bright but fairly mellow. A nice afternoon tea.

Earl Grey from TeaSpree
85

I thought I had logged this one previously, but apparently not.

This is my last of this particular tea… it’s a decent Earl Grey with a pleasing balance of flavors. The bergamot tastes like citrus and does not have that perfume-y aftertaste (a good thing!) The black tea is bright and delicious.

A very good cuppa!

Gingerbread from Suffuse Tea
85

I think this one is my favorite that I’ve tried from Suffuse thus far. I like the way the flavoring and the rooibos work together.

The ginger flavor develops as I continue to make my way to the bottom of the cup, it started out not so ginger-y, but now, I can taste that peppery note. It’s quite nice!

Coconut Lemongrass from Design a Tea
84

Yum! I love this combination! As I sip it, I am thinking about Dim Sum (YUM!) and I am wondering how I might make a dipping sauce with this tisane. It would be yummmmm!

Ah well… it’s quite good in my tea cup too. Light, citrus-y, with a lovely coconut taste that lingers in the finish. Lovely!

Classic Phoenix Oolong from Element Tea
97

This Oolong is Oh-So-Lovely!

I will write more about this later. Right now… I need to be alone with this tea.

Hazelnut Truffle from Tea Forte
80

This is Yum! I wish that the chocolate was stronger (of course), but I like the balance of flavors. Pleasant!

The black tea is fairly mellow but tasty. The hazelnut is the strongest component and it tastes nutty and yummy. I don’t get a lot from the coconut except that I do get a creaminess from it, and then a coconut note in the tail of the sip. The rose flavor is very faint.

Delicious.

Rose Marzipan from Sands Of Thyme
82

This is really good. So far the best that I’ve tried from Sands of Thyme.

I can taste all the elements, but none are overpowering or off-putting, they all seem to be in quite a harmonious balance. There is a note of bitterness toward the end of the sip that lingers in the aftertaste, but it is a savory kind of bitter.

Very nice.

Cranberry Autumn from Harney & Sons
84

I really like this one a lot. Here’s my full-length review of it:

http://www.teareviewblog.com/?p=15005

Sweet, but not too sweet. Delicious. Hint of tart. Nice!

Raspberry Earl Grey from Zhena's Gypsy Tea
78

Enjoying some Raspberry Earl Grey this morning. This is one that I’ve not had in a while… I quite enjoy it.

I wrote a review for this some time ago:

http://www.teareviewblog.com/?p=4739

I will say that this time around, I can smell more of the raspberry in the dry leaf, and the bergamot and raspberry are somewhat united to create their own unique scent. It’s quite nice. I wish that this aroma was as strong in the liquor.

Still delicious!

Smooth Earl from Compass Teas
91

I really like this one. I’m quite picky when it comes to cream Earl Grey teas because I had a blend that I considered the best. But since I am not doing that anymore, this one would certainly substitute fine for it. It is smooth, creamy and delicious, but has enough bergamot in it so that I know I’m drinking an Earl Grey.

Very nice!

Oh! I forgot to thank TeaEqualsBliss for this! Thanks!!!

Mandarin Rooibos from Mark T. Wendell
74

I am drinking this iced this evening… even though it’s a little chilly outside, I am finding it so refreshing as an iced tea.

The flavor is smooth and sweet. I like the overall lightness of this. The mandarin orange flavor makes the natural taste of the rooibos go down so smooth. Very nice.

Decaf Carol from Lupicia
81

This is part of the “Low Caffeine” Holiday Tea collection from Lupicia.

Having tried both the Carol and now the Decaf Carol, I find them to be very similar but there are some differences that stand out to me. First of all, the black tea base here is a bit thinner than that of the caffeinated version. However, the flavorings are more intense with the decaf… the strawberry and vanilla really POP and the coconut is much more distinct here!

Both are very good!

Jasmine from Byron Bay Tea Company
98

Amazing! This has to be one of the best Jasmine teas I’ve yet to taste!

Smells incredible… tastes even better. Smooth and SOFT (not as in no flavor, but a soft texture that somehow translates to the flavor so effortlessly). So so so good!

Wild Blueberry White Chai from Yogic Chai
87

Another black friday purchase! This is yummy. The blueberry has a sweet yet tart flavor, and it gets along well with the chai spices and the Bai Mu Dan.

Very enjoyable.

I am obsessed with tea!

I am a co-founder of the SororiTEA Sisters:

I also review teas for the Tea Review Blog:

In addition to my passion for tea, I am also a mixed media/altered arts artist. You can see some of my art here: http://eccentricpastiche.blogspot.com

I am also a self-proclaimed foodie. I review local restaurants and the food I buy online here: http://hungryinportland.wordpress.com

*

My favorite teas are Yellow Teas with most Oolong teas at a close second. As far as “flavored” teas go, I love Earl Grey, Chocolate and Jasmine teas.

I also am intrigued by flavored teas with an unusual or unique flavor combination.

*

I don’t do a whole lot of swaps anymore, however, I do occasionally sell sampler boxes here: http://liberteas.teatra.de/ I don’t always have sampler boxes available as it depends upon how much time I have as well as packaging supplies. I usually post at least one or two sampler boxes per month, though, so if you’re interested, keep an eye out or PM me and I’ll let you know when I have some posted.

*

Most of the teas that I record in my notes here are going to have a fairly high rating from me. This is not because I am not discerning, but because I do not usually waste my time on drinking tea I do not care for, nor will I waste my time on writing about it.
