3557 Tasting Notes

Elixer of Immortality from Cloudwalker Teas
90

This is a really interesting tea. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted anything quite like it. It is earthy, woodsy, and slightly smoky. It is malty and a little bake-y… and even a little buttery. I can taste distant notes that have hints of flower and fruit to them. There is a deep sweetness to this.

I really like this. I REALLY like this!

Green Yerba Mate from EnjoyingTea.com
80

I had a difficult time getting up this morning… and after I got my little one on the school bus, I headed back to bed for a nap. I still feel a little groggy and like I don’t really want to get up and GO… so I decided I needed some invigorating Green Yerba Mate!

This is a very good Green Yerba Mate. I don’t know if it’s been aged or not, but, it has a very fresh taste since it is green. It is a little earthy but it isn’t as overwhelming as in some of the green Yerba Mates that I’ve encountered… not all Yerba Mates are the same!

Nice with a drizzle of honey!

Gong Fu from Zhi Tea
96

This really could be a suitable substitution for Dawn! Yes, really! I want to do a side by side one of these days to compare… but not today. Today, I want to just explore the features of this tea.

Chocolate-y, rich, robust. It has a bit of astringency, but, it isn’t overly drying. Very pleasant. Delicious!

Assam Sewpur Estate Reserve from Drink T
85

Enjoying a cup of this before I need to get out there and run some errands. It definitely has some get up and go to it! I really like this Assam. It has a very pleasant character. I just wrote a review for it for the SororiTEA Sister’s Blog… watch for it!

China Lichee from SpecialTeas
81

A friend of mine who has her own tea business wanted to find out which Lichee Congou tea that one of her favorite tea rooms uses … so I did a side by side yesterday with this one and the tea she wants to match. This one does not match the Lichee tea that she wants matched, but it is still pretty good.

I mention this only because before I started doing this taste comparison… I thought that all Lichee (Lychee) Congou’s were the same. But they aren’t. There are very subtle differences. And… something else that I’ve learned (but with a different side-by-side that did not involve lichee tea) is that even the SAME tea from the SAME company can taste different depending upon the batch. There are even subtle differences there.

OK… I digress. Back to the tea in front of me now. Before I move on in my taste comparison, I wanted to review this tea in depth, which I am now doing for the Tea Review Blog.

It’s actually quite nice. I have really gained an appreciation for Lichee, even though I have yet to taste the actual fruit… I guess I should say that I have really gained an appreciation for lichee tea. It seems to me to be a fruit that is perfectly paired with tea, as it has such a unique flavor profile that is sweet, floral and fruity.

And this one possesses all three of those characteristics. The black tea is very pleasant, bold and bright in flavor. There is a nice balance of flavor. A very nice tea with which to start the day.

Pure Lemongrass from Teapigs
88

Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending this my way!

Tonight… at 11:30 pm… I’m indulging in a late night snack that I really shouldn’t be indulging in – fried green beans with wasabi ranch sauce. So to offset the side effects of the wasabi (ie: heart burn) I am enjoying a cup of Lemongrass to tame the tummy!

And it is a delightful pairing. I like the contrast of flavors.

This lemongrass is deliciously smooth, sweet, and has a very pleasant citrus tone. YUMMY!

Rooibos Jasmine from Adagio Teas
50

I am having some of this tonight, mostly because I started writing a tea review for it months ago, and have had the partial review sitting in my files for a while now, and I need to finish it! But, I can’t finish a review for a tea that I haven’t had for many months… my memory isn’t that good!

I remember really liking this when I first tasted it… now I am not loving it quite as much as I once did. It is still alright… but it isn’t as good as I once thought it was. Losing points… It just doesn’t do jasmine flavor justice…

White Tea from Byron Bay Tea Company
84

This is a deliciously pure Pai Mu Tan with a crisp, clean flavor. It is remarkably delicate and yet flavorful at the same time. Pleasing notes of flower and fruit come through. It is sweet and relaxing.

I will be writing a more in-depth review of this for the Tea Review Blog very soon!

Organic Jasmine Green Tea from Arbor Teas
89

A very pleasing jasmine aroma and flavor. While it is not overly “floral” it does possess that certain jasmine sharpness that cuts through some of the sweeter notes nicely. The green tea is lightly vegetative and smooth.

A very good jasmine offering!

I’m off to write a more in-depth review for the Tea Review Blog.

Momo Oolong Super Grade from Lupicia
94

This is definitely one of Lupicia’s best… and while I like so many of their teas that it would be difficult for me to choose a favorite, this would definitely make the top 5 list!

Deliciously peachy, rich and smooth flavor. Very nectar-like. The Oolong has a creamy back note with a hint of vegetation. Sweet and absolutely lovely!

Assam SFTGFOP-1 House Blend from SpecialTeas
86

This is the tea that was calling out to me today. I wanted something bold and brisk… this one certainly is!

Very rich, brisk, and malty! It is enough to get me to shake the sleepy and that overwhelming desire for me to crawl back into my warm bed and even powerful enough to get me to compose a review for it – which I just submitted to the Tea Review Blog. It should publish within the next day or two!

Immortalitea from Red Leaf Tea
82

I really enjoy this tea. It has a wonderful, restorative quality to it… after a long walk around the neighborhood taking my daughter out to trick-or-treat, this tea is my TREAT!

Brandon's Snickerdoodle Black Tea from 52teas
84

Well, I’m about to head out with my little one to go trick-or-treating, but I thought I’d warm up with a cup of this first.

The more I drink this, the more I’m liking it.

I wrote a review of it for the Tea Review Blog… wanna read it?

http://www.teareviewblog.com/?p=15093

PS: I increased the numeric rating on this because I’m enjoying it so much this evening.

Anji Bai Cha from Canton Tea Co
88

Another tea from TeaEqualsBliss Thank you!!!

A lovely sweet flavor, pleasantly vegetative without being too grassy. Very light and delicious.

Raspberry Champagne White from Compass Teas
87

Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss For sending me some of this tea to try! It’s delightful!

The key to this tea is: water not too hot, brew for just 3 minutes. It doesn’t need any sweetener, it is very pleasant as is. The flavors are bright and seem to sparkle like a glass of champagne! I can almost taste the bubbles!

Delightful!

Mike-the-Nerd's Irish Creme Flavored Black Tea from 52teas
86

Thank you to Rachel for sending me some of this to try! I didn’t order it when it was introduced – I don’t know why! And now that I’m tasting it, I really wish I had!

This is fantastic! Smooth and creamy. I am contemplating adding a splash of cream to it to enhance the creaminess, but, since I’m about to write a review of this for the Tea Review Blog, I wanted to first experience it without the cream… and it is really good like this. Delicious!!!

Carolina Honey from Argo Tea
82

Thank you Rachel for sending me a bit of this to try! I’ve not tried anything from Argo, so I was happy to have this opportunity.

This has a strong honey scent with soft notes of lemon. It’s really quite sweet smelling and very pleasant.

The black tea is a strong tea. Crisp, but not overly astringent. The lemon is just barely there, and I thought that maybe the honey was too, but as I continue to sip it, the flavor develops nicely. It has a very pleasing balance of flavor.

Vanilla Berry Truffle from Art of Tea
75

This one took a little while to grow on me, but now as I am nearly finished with the cup, I am finding that I quite enjoyed it. It has a nice, creamy taste and body. I like the black currant… the white chocolate… and even the hibiscus here isn’t bad.

I like!

Silky Spice from Simpson & Vail
84

I’ve tasted a lot of blends that are heavily reliant upon hibiscus as the primary ingredient. I’m not usually a fan of these types of blends, but I really like this one… because even though hibiscus IS the primary ingredient, it is the combination of the other ingredients that makes this one intriguing.

I love the sarsaparilla in this, it adds just enough interest to the cup to make the taste buds perk up and say “hey… I like that!” The vanilla gives a soft sweetness to the cup.

Very pleasant cup!

Banana Green Tea from The Tea Farm
91

I love this tea! The banana flavor is quite delicate, and in fact, I think it tastes a bit more like a plantain than banana, because it doesn’t have that distinctive sweetness of a banana.

But the green tea is what really is awesome in this blend – it tastes so good. Vegetative and sweet. EXCELLENT!

Gina Amaretta from TeaGschwendner
83

I have to thank Rachel for sending me a bit of this tea. I really love this tea!

bittersweet, robust, and delicious!

I’m off to write a review for this tea on the Tea Review Blog!

Sambucca/Licorice Spice from Chado
95

This just may be my favorite tea that I’ve tried from Chado so far!

AWESOME licorice flavor. Sweet, lightly spiced, robust.

Cherry Cola from 52teas
89

YUM! I really love this blend. Sweet and delicious – and so much like cherry cola!

I just noticed that My Sweet Honeybush has this available again! If you haven’t tried it yet, you SHOULD!

Strawberry Passion from Village Tea Company
85

Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending some of this tea my way!

This is so good! The strawberry flavor strong for a white tea – but it doesn’t overpower the white tea. It is a nice balance. Sweet and fresh. Reminds me of the early days of summer when strawberries are in season and makes me long for strawberry shortcake!

Delicious!

Profile

Bio

I am obsessed with tea!

I am a co-founder of the SororiTEA Sisters:
http://sororiteasisters.com

I also review teas for the Tea Review Blog:
http://www.teareviewblog.com

In addition to my passion for tea, I am also a mixed media/altered arts artist. You can see some of my art here: http://eccentricpastiche.blogspot.com

I am also a self-proclaimed foodie. I review local restaurants and the food I buy online here: http://hungryinportland.wordpress.com

*

My favorite teas are Yellow Teas with most Oolong teas at a close second. As far as “flavored” teas go, I love Earl Grey, Chocolate and Jasmine teas.

I also am intrigued by flavored teas with an unusual or unique flavor combination.

*

I don’t do a whole lot of swaps anymore, however, I do occasionally sell sampler boxes here: http://liberteas.teatra.de/ I don’t always have sampler boxes available as it depends upon how much time I have as well as packaging supplies. I usually post at least one or two sampler boxes per month, though, so if you’re interested, keep an eye out or PM me and I’ll let you know when I have some posted.

*

Most of the teas that I record in my notes here are going to have a fairly high rating from me. This is not because I am not discerning, but because I do not usually waste my time on drinking tea I do not care for, nor will I waste my time on writing about it.
