drank Masala Chai by Samovar
4843 tasting notes

I ordered this sample, I had heard some good things about this chai so I needed to find out for myself!

I split the brewed tea into two different cups so that I could have one for tasting without any additions and one for tasting as a latte.

Without Additions: Well, as most of you probably know, I’m pretty biased when it comes to chai, as I do believe that my own chai is the best ever. That being said, this chai lacks something. I was reading the label on the sample (which, may I say, I do have a tremendous appreciation for – the labels on these samples are very comprehensive), and it suggests adding a tbsp. of “your favorite black tea” – which suggests to me that this tea lacks a certain “umph” – and it does. The body of this tea – the base – seems relatively thin.

The spices, on the other hand, are delightful. Not too spicy, with a certain sweetness to it that I’m quite enjoying. This would really be an excellent masala chai if it had a stronger black tea base.

With honey and steamed milk: It is quite good as a latte, although, again, it suffers from a thin tea taste. The milk and honey do give it a little more consistency and a nice texture on the palate, as well as bring out some of the delicious spices. But the tea is still dreadfully thin on taste.

Enjoying another cup of this before I send it off to my SororiTEA Sister.

Rich, chocolate-y goodness. Delightful for my first cup of the day.

Delightful! Today has been a fantastic mail day – I got two packages of tea (and these orders arrived SO fast!) and a package of art goodies, as well as good news from my bank… and NO BILLS!

This is one of the teas I received today… and it’s delightful. It is a lighter version of Earl Grey, in my opinion, because the bergamot is a bit lighter. But along with that, it has a crisper, cleaner taste than some Earl Grey teas I’ve encountered. It doesn’t taste heavy or oily or soapy… just beautifully bergamot-y!

YUM!

Yay for good mail days! (I was a rural mail carrier’s daughter; the need for real letters goes deep in the DNA :)

I have Rachel to thank for sending me a sampling of this tea – and boy, am I glad she did! This is FANTASTIC!

I can see why everyone has rated this one so high. It delivers exactly as the name suggests, delicious honey and vanilla flavors on a light, white tea base.

So delicious! I just wrote a review for this one for the SororiTEA Sisters blog… it will publish soon!

This is the best Pu-Erh I’ve tasted yet. The aroma is not that strong, earthy aroma that sometimes gives me pause and a slight cringe, in fact, the aroma is quite subtle compared to other Pu-erh teas that I’ve encountered. It’s there, but it’s different and quite light.

The flavor is also quite light, and has a delicate flowery note. I am also experiencing the minty sensation as described by Grand Tea. If I were going to purchase a pu-erh, this would be the one I’d buy! That being said, I am sure that one of the things that the pu-erh lovers out there like best is that same thing that I do not, which is the strong, earthy essence. This tea does not have that. It is smooth and well-rounded, but not earthy… it reminds me more of an Oolong than a typical Pu-erh.

Currently on infusions # 3/4 and the flavor becomes even more unique – the floral flavor becomes more intense, but, at the same time, so does the buttery note, and they seem to become one seamless note. Delightful!

My day always seems to be a bit better when I have some Oolong! This has a lovely floral note to it that cuts through some of the buttery tones – I love the buttery tones, but sometimes, it’s nice for them to be a bit lighter, because I’ve had a few Oolongs where the buttery notes were quite heavy. Here, they are light.

A very pleasant Oolong. Smooth, a bit lighter in flavor than some Oolongs. Lovely!

Thank you TeaEqualsBliss for sending me a bit of this tea to try!

This is really very good. I can taste each of the ingredients, but, it is difficult to discern them – if that makes sense. They meld together quite well. I can taste notes from each ingredient, but, in this blend, they seem to create a ‘SUPER’ ingredient that possesses each of these flavors.

It is very flavorful, sweet with just a faint note of heat. Definitely Sassy!

drank Maple Bacon by Man Teas
4843 tasting notes

I have Paul Tracy to thank for sending me some of this tea. I had tried it when it was released as a 52Teas tea of the week. But I really liked it so I didn’t mind receiving it again.

Paul had mentioned to me that he didn’t know why he wasn’t getting the same flavors out of this tea that others have been so excited about, so first, I shall post the URL to my full-length review of this tea:
http://www.teareviewblog.com/?p=8262

My first tasting of this tea, I thought it was ok, but, I didn’t get a lot of maple flavoring (but then, when I eat maple bacon, I don’t get a LOT of maple in that either, it is more of an enhancement than a pronounced flavor). But what I really wasn’t getting was BACON. Frank had commented on that review and said that one of his regular customers had suggested adding just a pinch of salt to the cup. (I use Kosher salt, in case you’re wondering)

This does the trick. It really brings out the bacon flavor. I also add just a drizzle of agave nectar, or if you really want to enhance the maple-y flavor, add a little bit of real maple syrup. The sweetener highlights the overall flavors to the cup while the salt brings out the bacon flavor.

This is actually really good. It represents the first of many purchases I’ve made from 52Teas/zoomdweebies/mysweethoneybush/manteas, so there are some fond memories attached to this one. In fact, I am sure that if we were to combine the purchases that I’ve made with them since that time, I’ve probably made a mortgage payment or two for Frank. :)

Paul… I hope this helps you find more enjoyment from this tea.

I am obsessed with tea!

I am a co-founder of the SororiTEA Sisters:

I no longer write for the SororiTea Sisters but I am still the admin for the blog.

The reason I’m no longer writing for SororiTea Sisters is because I am now the Mad Tea Artist for 52Teas:

http://52teas.com

I’ll still be posting occasional reviews on teas here on Steepster, mostly backlogged reviews because I’m way behind on getting reviews posted. That’s why I’m keeping two accounts active at the current time – so that I can get those backlogged reviews posted.

My favorite teas are Yellow Teas with most Oolong teas at a close second. As far as “flavored” teas go, I love Earl Grey, Chocolate and Jasmine teas.

I also am intrigued by flavored teas with an unusual or unique flavor combination, which is why I was very excited to be the Mad Tea Artist of 52Teas!
