Finishing off the last of this from my stash… I am a bit sad to see it go, yet happy to clear the way for more tea. I have so many teas that I haven’t yet tried. LOL

Anyways… as I have reviewed before with this tea, Golden really is the right word to describe the flavor of it. It seems to glisten in the mouth. It tastes so smooth and rich and delicious… pleasant amount of spice (not strong, just little hints of natural spice notes in the tea leaf). Just a very good tea.

Oh! This sounds great!

LiberTEAS

My second infusion of this tea is just as lovely as the first, perhaps even more so. The flavors become very mellow and smooth… perfect for a laid back kind of afternoon.

As my last steeped cuppa for the evening, I chose one of my favorites! I ordered a sufficient supply of these recently so I don’t feel the need to hoard them anymore – plus Lori was kind enough to send me some as well – THANKS Lori!

Delicious chocolate and banana – not much more to say than that! This rooibos blend reminds me of Disneyland, when I lived in California, I used to visit Disneyland pretty regularly, and each time I’d visit, I’d indulge in a frozen chocolate covered banana on Main Street!

YUMMY!

love choc nana combos in general. idk with rooibos but sounds interesting…

LiberTEAS

Actually, UNLESS I overdo it with sweetener (I add just a little bit to this to enhance the flavors, but, not enough to render it too sweet), the rooibos flavor is not strong with this, which is one of the reasons why I like it so well. I’m not a big fan of rooibos. That’s one of the big reasons why it surprises me that I love this blend so much, because it IS a rooibos blend.

Southern Boy Teas

We actually toyed with doing this one as a black tea or a honeybush even, but we came to decide that the rooibos really set the right tone for this blend (which is something of a rarity for me—I too am more fond of blending with honeybush and bases other than rooibos). So glad you are enjoying it.

TeaEqualsBliss

Did you get my other PM about your package?!

LiberTEAS

@TeaEqualsBliss, yes I did… I’ve just been away from the computer for a few hours so I’m catching up a bit.

@Frank, you did exceptionally well with this blend… not to say that your other blends aren’t very good as well, I don’t think I’ve encountered one yet that I haven’t enjoyed. But THIS one is the best.

drank Chocolate Ecstasy Matcha by Domo
4843 tasting notes

Enjoying a cup of this tonight. Rather than mix it up in my Chawan, I decided to put it in a regular mug and use my hand-held frother to blend it instead of my chasen… This produces a better latte drink because it is much frothier… much more like a latte.

The biggest problem with these latte mixes from Domo is that they are so yummy that they disappear before I even finish writing my tasting note.

Veri-Tea

Wow… that sounds interesting and yummy!!

TeaEqualsBliss

I was just on Domo’s website today! Neat stuff…there’s contact email keeps bouncing back tho…wanted to tell them I enjoyed their site!

LENA

Mmm…I’ve added this to my shopping list. Sounds wonderful!

LiberTEAS

@TeaEqualsBliss – I haven’t communicated with them, but I can tell you that I was surprised at how quick their shipping was! Usually I have to wait a minimum of 2 weeks to get things from Canada, but I seriously think I got this within a week’s time – I’d have to check the order confirmations to know for sure – but I was surprised when FedEx (or was it UPS?) knocked on the door with this package!

LiberTEAS

@Veri-Tea & Lena – I really like this. When I first add milk to it, it smells a little bit like Ovaltine (or at least what I remember ovaltine smelling like, it’s been years and years since I’ve actually had ovaltine – not since I was a kid!) but, it doesn’t taste like ovaltine. If I were to change one thing about this, it would be that I would rather the chocolate that they use be more of a dark chocolate than what seems to be a somewhat light, milky chocolate. Of course, that could be from the fact that milk is used to make this latte. Either way, it’s still quite yummy!

TeaEqualsBliss

I’d LOVE to try this one day…

drank Sencha Fuka-midori by Den's Tea
4843 tasting notes

Enjoying a second infusion of this tea now. The flavor is a bit less sweet this time around with just a tad bit more bitter to the cup – but this is not an unpleasant bitterness, but more of a savory kind of bitterness to offer a nice balance of flavors to the palate.

I can also taste a bit more of the roasted nutty flavor to this cup, of which there were only vague hints of in the first infusion.

Still a very enchanting cup of Sencha tea.

This is another sample from the novice sampler that I bought some time ago…

The leaves resemble the Gyokuro leaves from SpecialTeas… they are very slender, deep forest green, and smaller than most Sencha leaves I’ve seen. At just 1 minute’s worth of steep time, the liquor is a beautiful celedon in color. And the flavor is just as lovely!

The flavor is very vegetative, sweet and absolutely delicious. It has a very pleasant mouthfeel that is a bit thicker than most green teas that I’ve encountered.

I will say this about Den’s – they KNOW Sencha!

drank Cupcake by Old Wilmington Tea Co
4843 tasting notes

Oh… my 200th tasting note! A cupcake to celebrate!

I am almost out of my sample of this tea, I will say that even though Old Wilmington’s sample prices are a bit… pricey, they are generous and speedy with their shipping, and extremely courteous in their communication as well.

Today, I did not brew it as long as I did yesterday, and this has helped immensely with the flavor – no more bitter, but it is a very robust black tea! – I also decided to make mine a latte today, and it brings out the creamy flavor of the tea very well.

This tea possesses a caramel-y vanilla flavor to it, I don’t know if I really taste “cupcake” as much as I taste a sweet vanilla caramel with a nice malty backdrop. It is rich and tasty though, and I quite enjoy it, even if it isn’t quite as cupcake-y as I was hoping for. And as I continue to sip, I notice that the flavors really come into focus.

A very nice cup of black tea!

Having a cup of this – this time I did it latte style with a bit of warmed, frothed milk. It is so much better this way! The milk brings out the creamy flavor of the blend. Nice!

I am improving the rating on this one just a bit… because I can!

drank Matcha Miyabi by Den's Tea

Yum… Matcha! A little late for me to be drinking it, I suppose, but, because we were out and about and ate a late lunch, I was just “too full” for a bowl of Matcha before… and now I find myself wanting some.

Smooth, frothy deliciousness. Bright green color… it’s so beautiful.

TeaEqualsBliss

I’ve heard so many good things about this one!

drank Strawberry & Vanilla by Lupicia
4843 tasting notes

I received this pyramid sachet as a free sample with my order from Lupicia.

The Lupicia website indicates that this tea has some Matcha in it, and there is a noticeable green dust that emits from the bag upon opening the pouch. After trying Den’s Sencha last evening, I will say that this does not have as much Matcha as that Sencha pyramid sachet, as you can hardly see it (the matcha) in the brewed liquor of this tea. But that’s OK. It sort of reminds me of my own La Vert Pear blend that I used to carry, I would coat the dried pear chunks that I added to the blend in Matcha… it resulted in a “hardly noticeable” matcha dust in the leaf and a “hardly noticeable” change to the liquor, but, added just the right touch to the flavor, which is what I wanted to achieve….

Anyways… I digress!

This is a very good blend. The flavor is very fresh, the strawberry flavor reminds me a bit of sweet-tarts – it kind of leaves that tarty tang on the tongue like sweet-tarts do. Although, it doesn’t taste like candy… it does have the same effect.

This is one that I would definitely consider buying again (so it was a good move on Lupicia’s part to send me this as a sample!)

I got this one twice actually. It was so good that I wasn’t disappointed about not getting to try something different. I’ve decided fruit+matcha is the only way I can personally REALLY LOVE fruity teas.

YUM! This sounds lovely!

drank Cupcake by Old Wilmington Tea Co
4843 tasting notes

When I placed a samples order from Old Wilmington a while back, I just had to order this one. I love cupcakes. (who doesn’t, right?)

Old Wilmington does not specify what type of black tea is used for this blend, I suspect that there is some Assam in it though, because I steeped my first cup for not more than 3 minutes, and there is a bitter note to the tea – it isn’t off-putting for me, but, I would rather it not be there. This is supposed to be cupcake flavored tea. Know what I mean?

So I am going to refrain from including a numeric rating until I’ve played around with this tea a bit and get the brewing parameters just right… I do think that I will quite enjoy this tea… The vanilla is sweet and I can taste a note of caramel as well. I think that this will be one that will be quite nice as a latte.

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec
Stephanie

How dissapointing! A tea named “Cupcake” just can’t be bitter! :)

LiberTEAS

Right? From a tea artisan’s perspective, I can understand why they would use an Assam in the blend. The malty quality of the Assam would really enhance the cupcake idea, and the depth of flavor would give it a sort of “baked” flavor.

Stephanie

I love teas with a “baked” quality! There should be a tea named “Baked Bread”. (Now I’m hungry—time for lunch!)

LiberTEAS

OMG “baked bread” would be absolutely yummy. I think that Frank should make me a cupcake tea for my birthday.

Cinoi

Oh no!! Cupcake tea should be nothing be fantastic. See what you can do and let us know how it turns out!!

Miss Sweet

There really needs to be more teas that taste like baked goods. I hope you nail the perfect brewing parameters!

I’ll still be posting occasional reviews on teas here on Steepster, mostly backlogged reviews because I’m way behind on getting reviews posted. That’s why I’m keeping two accounts active at the current time – so that I can get those backlogged reviews posted.

My favorite teas are Yellow Teas with most Oolong teas at a close second. As far as “flavored” teas go, I love Earl Grey, Chocolate and Jasmine teas.

I also am intrigued by flavored teas with an unusual or unique flavor combination, which is why I was very excited to be the Mad Tea Artist of 52Teas!
