424 Tasting Notes
Another from my goody bag from Stephanie! I did these out of order, since this was my first two cups of the day. I liked it a lot. Maybe not as much as Malty Irish Breakfast (I love the heavy malted teas) but it is a great and strong black.
Still watching The Civil War (Ken Burns) on Netflix today. The weirdest part to me is hearing them talk about all of these places around me and where I have lived. If the ground could talk…
Had a really nice dinner with Stephanie last night, where our husbands finally met. They have a lot in common but it was hard for them to talk because my daughter is so enamored with Stephanie that she absolutely dominated the conversation. It’s really unusual for her, she is normally very introverted. Sorry Steph! Anyway, we had some great Chinese food, and as usual, exchanged tea samples.
This was in my goody bag from Stephanie, and I really like it. I’m not sure if I underleafed it, since the package gave the temp and length and all that, but no information about how much to use. It’s possible that the sample was meant to be a single cup; it looked like two to me. But when I resteep I will add more and see how that goes.
It’s really nice! A little weak but that might be my fault. The 2 minute steep might have been short as well.
If I’m being honest, after so many cups of tea I start getting heartburn, but I just chew up some Tums and keep going. Bad girl.
I kept this from the herbal tea box, because I thought it might be useful someday. I don’t feel sick, I just feel sinus-y from all of the rain and yuck. When I smelled this in the pouch, it was so super strong, like a cough drop in tea form. I thought I would be drinking a “necessary evil” type thing. But I actually really like it. I think it’s the ginger. So if it helps unstuff me, great. I am enjoying it either way.
In other news, I am watching Ken Burns’ Civil War documentary. All of his stuff is disappearing from Netflix after June so I am racing the calendar. It is sort of driving me crazy though, there are a lot of celebrity voice overs, and I swear this guy’s voice is one of them http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001137/?ref_=tt_cl_t6 (his voice is distinctive) but he isn’t on the list.
Dinner tomorrow night with Stephanie, looking forward to that! I think half of the fun is deciding which teas to take her.
This was my first choice today for first flavored tea of the day. It just smells so delicious and I really like the base.
In other news, I’m looking for people for end of the month assignments in Yakima, WA, Little Rock AR, Kingston ON, Glen Ellyn IL, Effingham IL, Yuma AZ and Chattanooga TN.
So last night was fun (house full of kids) but I was a little extra tired this morning. I had to fill up the sugar bowl (don’t judge) and I totally stood there and filled up my tea cup full of sugar instead. Definitely needed more caffeine.
Gotcha. Yeah that new asian Lotus tea I got is green unfortunately! :/ I’ll pick out some other stuff ;)
Tonight I made spaghetti and meatballs for 12 people (3 POUNDS) of meatballs. Now I have a basement full of happy teenagers and I am upstairs cat sitting. He fell asleep with his head on my arm. It was so adorable. http://imgur.com/YLcSVfS
And oh yeah, I have tea.
Is cute! Is his fur not a nightmare to keep though? I had a blue/white maine coon once and her fur matted like a crazy thing. Didn’t help that she didn’t like being brushed. I expect it was probably painful for her with all the matting every time you turned around. I’ve been told it’s often a problem with blue/white.
This was nice. It didn’t knock my socks off (hehe, autocorrect made that “knock my woks off” and I think I like that better) but I won’t have any trouble drinking it down.
I think what I like most about green rooibos is that it doesn’t really taste like much, so it serves as a medium for the flavors but doesn’t compete with them. I can drink what I’m drinking without thinking of mulch with every drink. So, I think from here on out I will stay away from red rooibos in favor of green. Thankfully it seems to be more common all the time.
As far as the way this tasted, I had it hot and it just tasted like something citrusy. I could see it being good cold, but here’s my problem. I keep thinking I should cold brew all of these herbal teas, then the next day all I want is teas with caffeine so I can’t make myself drink them.
Autocorrect is crazy isn’t it? Sometimes it changes it to something so weird. I love “knock my woks off”. Maybe we will have to use that to describe our teas.
I keep two pitchers of cold brew in the refrigerator – one decaf/herbal, the other caffeine. I’ve put the little chalkboard labels on the pitchers so I can label them with chalk and then erase it, because I also forget what I made. I use the Takeya pitchers http://www.takeyausa.com/c-4-pitchers-carafes.aspx because they don’t take up much space. The infuser basket is big so the tea has plenty of room. We found these pitchers at Costco, a package of two for $26.
I wish I was better about identifying flavors in tea. I like this now a lot. I get NO smoke (which is a good thing). Sweet, yes. Maybe like raw honey. It’s sweet but sort of earthy sweet. Sweet potato maybe. Sorry I’m not better at that part, but I can decisively say that it is good, and thank you for the sample of it on my last order!
It is raining and my head hurts (usually happens when the weather changes) so I took off work early to have some tea in my comfy chair and watch more of The West Wing (on season 5 now).
