Darjeeling Tea from Twinings

Second time drinking this tea and it is lovely. Very light without being overpoweringly flowery. I read on the container that it is nice to drink with milk and I have been on an Add Milk to Tea spree so I added some. I added less this time to see how it tastes. But so far I really like it.

I didn’t feel like having green tea so I picked up some more tea when I went to the store. Apparently this is my go-to tea since it was the first to hit my shopping bag. This with milk tastes so good. Especially since I haven’t had any tea for a week.

Just sitting here sipping on the last of my Earl Grey. It is yummy and I am so glad I tried it. I am going to have to get some more Earl Grey soon. The question is will it be this brand or a different brand? That is a decision I will have to make.

No matter how many times I make this tea, it always reminds me of coffee. Had it today with some milk in the morning. It is now officially out.

Final Judgement: I would probably get it again but it wouldn’t be the first tea I reached for unless I needed it to get a punch in the face in the morning. It would be a good morning tea for school.

This is my last teabag of this tea. I have enjoyed drinking it for all the times I have drank it. I can really see this becoming a comfort morning tea. It doesn’t have the same punch as Irish breakfast but it does help wake me up gently.

It is really fun to watch tea steep in a clear mug. The color was this beautiful dark amber. I put just a splash of milk in it and it was so fun to watch the milk mix with the tea as I put it in. When I was carrying it around my brother thought it was coffee because it looks like milky coffee.

That was about an hour or so ago. My clear mug is really big so my tea lasts a while. It is now cold but it is still really yummy. This would be a great tea to make during breakfast at school. The only problem is that I would need to get a thermos to drink out of. I know they have this nice one made of recycled materials at school but I will see if there is anything out there before I go to school.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I like to play with my tea. This playtime came as an afterthought. I was making myself some hot chocolate and in the middle of making it I wondered how it would taste like mixed with some tea. So I threw a teabag in and let it steep for a pretty long time so I could get both flavors since my family’s hot chocolate is rich and strong.

Mocha. Mocha? Mocha!

It tastes like the best mocha I have ever had. Ever. Yummy!

I made some of my own lazy tea eggs for my brother and me to have for a late lunch. I didn’t add any other spices and I only let it soak for about an hour. They were pretty good. You could taste the tea but it wasn’t overpowering. You could taste it more near the tips of the eggs too. This didn’t surprise me since I used a green tea instead of a black tea. I was expecting the tea taste to be weaker.

It is the Earl’s day today. Earl tea oatmeal with a little bit of agave sweetner and orange cream yogurt on the side. I tried a bite of oatmeal with a dab of yogurt. It was good but the orange yogurt overpowered the tea in the oatmeal. But if I had a scoop or two of unflavored yogurt to mix into the oatmeal it would have been a fantastic hearty yet creamy meal.

I figured out that if I multitask and loose track of my steep time I need to take periodic sips of my tea so I can tell how strong it is getting. This time I was able to take the tea bag out before the tea got bitter. It was wonderful just like the first time I tried it.

I don’t know what possessed me to try this with milk and agave nectar but I won’t be doing that again. I think this is a tea that you need to take your time with. I also need to remember that I don’t like drinking teas underneath ceiling fans. I don’t know why.

I think I might have steeped this a minute too long for my tastes. Either that or I got used to drinking milked Lady Grey and I was expecting that taste from the Earl. If that is true then there is only one cure for that one. Lay off the black tea for a while and go and drink the lovely green pom tea. : )

Lady Grey from Twinings

My last cup of Lady Grey. I have to admit that I did develop a fondness for the Lady hot with milk. It was a very nice afternoon drink. I don’t see myself going out to get this tea again but I don’t see myself turning a cup away either.

This tea makes a great bowl of oatmeal. I made the oatmeal with a little bit more tea than I did last time so the consistency wasn’t as gluey. Just drizzling the agave over the oatmeal tasted much better than stirring it in too. I think I finally broke my addiction to using tons of butter, cream, and brown sugar! This way is much tastier and better for you without all of that butter and sugar.

I had to explain to mom what I was doing. She was making faces at me when I was making my oatmeal.

I had the rest of the tea with a little bit of milk. It is definitely a punch you in the face kind of tea. I don’t see myself drinking this all the time but I could see myself getting different samplers of it to see how it tastes from different companies.

Do not forget this tea when you are making it. I came back to pick it up and it was strong! Good but strong. I made this using the extra water left over from having tea with mom. I also added 2 tablespoons of our family’s cocoa mix and a splash of milk in it. It was really good. The tea and the cocoa just blended together. The cocoa didn’t overpower the tea at all.

Hot with milk. Still good. Nice drink to have right after supper when you are talking with your mom.

Apparently this is my comfort tea today. I have been having a bad headache and dizzyness since last night and this is the first thing I grab in the morning. It is also apparently one of the teas I really want some milk in. A nice comforting cup of tea.

When I was making a cup of English Breakfast my boy decided to make himself a cup of this. I had a few mouthfuls and it wasn’t that bad. It didn’t taste as strong as it could have because he had a big glass of water for one little teabag. This was my first time tasting ginger tea so I’m surprised that the ginger wasn’t that strong.

I’m not sure what my impression is on this one. I would try it again but I would want to make it over at my house where I don’t have to use water from an instant coffee maker.

I made myself a cup of this when I was over at my boyfriend’s house. I used hot water from their 1-cup instant coffee maker. I had enough sense to run a cup through before putting my teabag in to try to clear out most of the coffee taste. It still had a little bit of coffee residue but didn’t alter the taste of the tea by much. I put a little bit of organic milk in too.

Apparently my internet decided to not work for me for a second. Just a long enough second that I couldn’t copy the note that I had just written.

It has been rainy today and I ended up reaching for the Lady since I don’t want to give up on her yet. This time I put milk in my mug before I added the teabag and the boiling water. This allowed the perfumed taste to not be as apparent and made it quite pleasant.

I think the Lady is going to become the staple for my “meh” teas. I would drink it if I was offered it but I wouldn’t go out of my way to pick it up anywhere.

Green Tea with Mint from Bigelow

I was making a salad and decided that I wanted a cup of tea more than I wanted a glass of Coke. So I decided to drink this tea. Now, to be fair this tea is probably nearing two years old and tasted fine to me last Tuesday. But now I know what I was tasting in the tea was the sugar I added to try to remove the not good taste.

I remember really liking this tea when I got it but not drinking it because I was brewing it too hot and making it bitter. Now, it just doesn’t taste good compared to my other green tea. Maybe it is the age or maybe it is the brand. I don’t know. What I do know is that I got rid of my last four teabags of this because I’m not going to enjoy drinking it.

I think I get hungry with the time. I know my body isn’t telling me to eat because I just ate two hours ago and I’m still full. It is physiological. So, I break out the tea.

My brother came home from school early (half day) so I offered to make him a cup of tea as well. He chose Tension Tamer from Celestial Seasonings. I’m actually surprised anyone in the house likes it.

I got water ready and decided it is time for some Irish Breakfast. I picked out a bigger cup than usual so I might have had twice as much water than what I normally use but I don’t think it is much of a problem for this tea. It is really bold. It really reminds me of coffee and smells a little bit like my dad’s decaf JFG coffee to me. It would be really good first thing in the morning.

I put a little bit of milk in it with some agave nectar. It smoothed out the flavor a bit into something a little bit more low key for right now. Not by much though since I didn’t put that much milk in it. I had my brother try a little bit of it and he likes it. In fact, if I can get up early enough, he would like to have a cup before school. I think I would make it with a little more milk for him. Possibly only a 3 minute steep too so it would help him wake up better but not be too strong for him. He normally drinks herbal tea.

I do like it right now but I’m not really sure what to think about it. I think I would have to drink it a couple more times to really get an opinion on it. I do know one thing, I would probably get some packets of this to help me wake up in the morning at school. It would help wake me up since I am not a morning person and actually help me stay awake. That would be a good thing considering that I have an “early” class at 9 for next semester. And one of them actually requires thought while the other requires I be awake because it is physical activity.

I was reading a post last night on Numi’s 2 Week Puerh (Pu-erh?) Challenge blog and somebody had made oatmeal with her tea. I thought that this sounded interesting and different so I decided then that I would try it today.

So, I brewed up a tea of English Breakfast and made it a little stronger. Four minutes seems to be the magic point for me this week. The sips of the tea I had before I made the oatmeal were nice and kinda earthy. The taste is really difficult for me to put my finger on right now but it is good.

I poured about 1/4 a glass over raw oats and put some agave nectar on the oats and mixed it up. The oats all bunched up and looked a little sad that they weren’t getting any brown sugar and butter like they normally do. But the oatmeal was nice and thick. They tasted a little gluey without being the blech gluey taste that I have always associated raw oats with. It was a good earthy gluey. In hindsight, I would make the tea a little stronger for the oatmeal so I could get a little bit more of the tea’s flavor in the oatmeal. I would also put some fruit in the oatmeal next time as well.

The rest of the tea got some milk in it. I saw a picture of this mug (http://www.firebox.com/product/1975/MyCuppa-Mugs?via=ser) a while back and according to that mug I put enough milk in it for it to be considered milky. It was nice and very creamy while still having that mild earthy taste to it.

Edit: got the link down but actually had a typo. Bad English student! ; )

There was enough water in the kettle after dinner for me to make another cup of tea. This time I grabbed my green tea. It was so much better than the multiple cups I have had before of it. The kettle had at least five minutes to cool off from the boiling point. It was probably closer to 180 than anything but I’m not sure about that. I wish I did because it would be easier to replicate the results.

The first sip from the steep was so sweet on the tip of my tongue. It makes me smile just to think of the taste. It was light and crisp and reminded me of dewdrops on grass. I settled down with it an Brisinger by Paolini and just enjoyed myself.

As it cooled I was able to taste the ending tartness that the pomegranate always provides. This is when I’m glad I have eaten a lot of pom seeds. I know what it tastes like. This time I didn’t even have to put any sweetener into my tea at all like I normally have to or else it would be a little bitter. This time every drop, even the ending sips of my glass, went down cool and sweet.

I think I am figuring out that different types of teas do have slightly different methods of brewing to get their unique flavor out. This means that I will be enjoying my cups of pomegranate tea much more than I was.

Lady Grey from Twinings

This is the second time I have tried the Lady Grey tea. This time I steeped it for about 4 minutes and tasted it. It was more perfumy than the Earl Grey was and had a greater taste of sweet orange with the punch of tarty-sourness. So I put a little milk in it and that helped even out the overly perfumed taste.

I do have to say that I would have never thought that tea would make a good companion for a dinner. I was wrong. With the Lady Grey prepared this way it made the perfect compliment to the crock pot chicken that my mom made. With the sides being a fresh salad and a slice of buttered bread.

I also have to say that having tea with the meal helped fill me up more than soda or water or anything else I have had recently. Even with the smaller portion sizes I had. It was interesting and I would definitely have tea with a meal again.

I don’t think I like Lady Grey hot. I will have to try her iced and see if she goes better with my taste buds. I have to say even though I gave the Lady a good try, I think the Earl won my heart.

I was expecting to not like this tea after reading a lot of reviews about it and after trying Lady Grey. But, not wanting to try Irish Breakfast yet, I pulled out the Earl Grey teabag and started heating up my water.

I have no idea why I didn’t want to try this tea. I steeped it for 4 minutes because I remembered that Lady Grey was a little bitter after 5 minutes for me. This tea is delicious! It isn’t flowery and it has such a pleasant almost sour twinge to it. It is just enough to keep my tongue on its toes. I also really like the musky smell it has. It just reminds me of cuddling up to my boy after having a bad day.

I like Steepster, but I find that I come and go as I please. I might spend months on here and then disappear for no apparent reason. It depends on how busy my life is.

I have been moving solidly into the loose leaf tea territory lately and loving it. I have a french press I like brewing my teas in and I have all of my teas straight with no additions the first time I try it.

I like to try everything and I am starting to like everything. I love black tea, green tea, white tea, oolong tea, yerba mate, and honeybush. I’m still not the biggest fan of roobios, but that is probably because I haven’t found the right brand yet.

If you are curious about more than just my tea selection, I am on multiple sites.
