507 Tasting Notes
I am trying the very last sample of this tea brewing it with the mug style. I have a nice clear mug that I can see my leaves in. I am mostly waiting for the tea to cool down to a drinkable temperature and trying to figure out how to drink it without chugging down the leaves. They are halfway unfurled at the moment and half of them are floating.
The color is a nice clear pale green. It smells wonderfully fruity which I have come to expect. It also smells faintly buttery. I feel like I am doing an experiment in tea leaf reading.
It is very light and delicate. I have a feeling the flavor will get slightly stronger the longer I let it sit. I am learning how to drink tea all over again. I have to keep my lips far away from the leaves as I sip out of my mug and it is starting to look like a forest in there. I will update later as I finish my tea and make more steeps this way.
Edit: It tastes like I’m getting a more of a nutty flavor out of it and it is less sweet than when I steep it in the press. Still delicate and I have no idea how long the leaves have technically been steeping in the water. Almost done with the mug. I might pout some more water on it later because it filled me up.
This is such a bittersweet feeling: reaching the last portion of a sample. I think I steeped it a little bit too long, but the second and third steep will be just as fantastic as it has always been. Yunnan Black Full Leaf, I will miss you until I get more of you in my stash.
I have been having other teas, I just have to drink another round of the flavored milk oolong before I can attempt to describe its wonderfulness.
I had this hot with milk at breakfast with two slices of toast and a fried egg. I had attempted to make a poached egg, but the egg stuck to the bottom to the pot and I think I had undercooked it. (I only successfully poached an egg once before.) I need to re-read my directions before I try poaching an egg again.
Apparently I have a small sinus infection. It sucks and I don’t really feel like doing much, but my doctor says I have to drink plenty of fluids. This counts. I’ll have a cup of tea in between my water intake so that I don’t get too tired of it.
Hot with a little bit of milk with my bacon and eggs this morning.
I am finally feeling better again. I have less pressure in my ears and my sinus pressure has gone down. Apparently I just need to threaten my body with a trip to the doctors and it behaves. Lol! The decongestant that my fiancee gave me probably helped too.
The leaves to this tea are much bigger than I expected. Instead of shaking them out or getting a teaspoon out, I just took two pinches and put them in my press. The leaves are so silky and look like they have been covered with a layer of delicate white fuzz. The aroma was nearly intoxicating just from the leaves. It smelled like very lightly toasted almonds that have been covered in jasmine flowers.
After impatiently waiting for the water to get hot, I steeped this for about two minutes. The liquor is very, very pale. I didn’t even notice it had color until I put it in my white ceramic mug. I was expecting it to be light because it is a white tea, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this light. The smell is still the same as the leaves, but the jasmine is lighter. I close my eyes and I imagine delicate white lace, lilies, and jasmine.
Confession time: I don’t like white tea. The ones I have tried had no flavor to them and just ended up tasting like hot leaf juice.
This tea is astounding! Mind blowing. It tastes goregous. There is this very light toasty taste (which I am assuming is the white tea) that dances right beside the jasmine. And the jasmine in this tea is light. Very light. I didn’t even taste jasmine the first time I sipped this it was so light. But as you sip on it, the jasmine becomes more and more apparent.
This might become a favorite for a while. It was just what I was looking for today. Perfect to break my earl grey with milk streak. I’m going to have to try to re-steep this after dinner to have as a nice before-bed drink.
If you haven’t had this yet, get it. It is awesome.
Made a big pitcher of iced tea using one bag of this and three bags of Lipton black tea. It was nice and refreshing. Lightly raspberry and it didn’t overpower the rest of the tea. If anything, I might want to add the bag earlier during the brewing process so the raspberry will pop out more.
This has become the tea that I drink. It has been all I have been drinking for a while. I have a feeling that this will end shortly and I’ll be drinking different teas again soon.
I decided to try something different and put a little hot cocoa powder in my tea today to see if I would like chocolate earl grey. I would. The chocolate and bergamot dance together in such a pleasing way. I might try to find a chocolate earl grey blend to try now.
Finally had some hot tea. With milk. Feel better.
It has been really hot here recently so Dad has made really strong iced tea that we have been drinking almost exclusively. I want it to cool back down so I can enjoy my earl grey in the morning again.
I didn’t get to have my re-steeps of this last night, so I am having one now. Good thing it is even good cold because it cooled off in my mug while I was multi-tasking.
