5 Tasting Notes

Dream by the Fire from The Republic of Tea
61

I was really looking forward to this tea when I ordered it, but I have been mostly disappointed. The rooibos overpowers the other flavors; you can barely taste the cinnamon, and the vanilla is not a good compliment. I have achieved the best results with this tea by brewing it together with apple-flavored herb teas to make a nice autumn/winter iced tea.

Mint Fields (Organic) from The Republic of Tea
90

I am a big believer in mint teas, since I have long-suffered from digestive problems. Mint tea is one of the best, all-natural cures for upset stomach, and this mint tea is my favorite because there is no caffeine to irritate the stomach lining (which I have found problematic with other mint teas). This tea also brews a great summer iced tea, and I often pair it with Celestial Seasonings’ Tension Tamer Herb Tea for a soothing iced tea.

The only negative I would note about this tea is that it comes in a 36-teabag tin, as opposed to the Republic of Tea’s standard 50-teabag tin.

Organic Throat Coat from Traditional Medicinals
89

One of my friends gave me several bags of this when I had laryngitis. While I am not usually a fan of fennel or licorice, I LOVED the way this tea soothed my throat. I always keep a box around and hand out teabags to friends when they are sick or suffering from a tired throat.

Also, if you are the sort that likes to make mixed drinks involving tea, this tea pairs perfectly with a shot of whiskey and a squeeze of lemon.

Tension Tamer from Celestial Seasonings
79

Tension Tamer is a favorite for my mother and me, and in my opinion, it is one of the best herb teas available from Celestial Seasonings. While bagged teas are never quite as good as the full leaf alternative, they are more widely available.

I have experimented quite a bit with this tea. It is good as a hot tea, as well as iced. I have also brewed iced tea mixing this with the Republic of Tea’s Mint Fields Herb Tea. It makes an excellent summer tea: light and refreshing!

Tea of Good Tidings from The Republic of Tea
100

I was skeptical of this tea when it first arrived. The smell of the juniper berries was overpowering, and the strong fruity scent had me worried. I generally prefer earthier-flavored teas, with lighter fruit undertones and subtle flavors. To say the least, I was afraid I had wasted money on a tea I would not like. However, I decided to give the tea a chance straight away, and I couldn’t have been more wrong. The smell of the loose tea leaves was completely different from the way the brew tasted; the flavor of the black tea was prominent, while the fruits and spices properly balanced out the blend. It is now my favorite hot tea.
