44 Tasting Notes

Green and Fruity from DAVIDsTEA
53

I’ve determined from this tea two things: one, that I like red rooibos leaves better, and two, that I’m not a huge fan of mango.

It is a bit like a mango green tea when steeped. There’s a tart, lingering aftertaste to it that I don’t enjoy. It’s not bad blended in with something like Teavana’s Citron Sonata, but it isn’t really for me.

Cacao Mint Black from Teavana
73

Raiding another friend’s tea stash is the greatest. Courtesy of my close friend Maria, I’ve been going through quite a few Teavana teas. My stomach was giving me some issues, so I’ve been sticking to simple teas with mint and ginger in – no sugar or milk.

I love the smell of this tea. It’s a nice, cool rich scent. Brews to a fairly neutral brown. The peppermint does its thing and rises up with the steam while it’s steeping.

I don’t get a ton of chocolate notes in the taste, although it still smells chocolate/minty in the cup. Still a great tea. I could easily work this into my rotation.

Prosperous Peach Oolong from Teavana
55

Didn’t really like the vegetal taste of the oolong itself, took away from the overall peachy flavour.

Orange Blossom from DAVIDsTEA
61

I love a good citrus tea. When I first saw the label for this, I was overexcited. The smell is excellent – just a nice orange burst mixed with vanilla.

It steeps to a rosy orange. Very pretty. I was surprised by the taste. While I got the orange-y notes and the mellow rooibos taste, it tasted a bit like bubblegum, which is not what I was expecting.

Great iced.

Azteca Fire from Teavana
67

It was a long and good night last night. I needed a tea to wake me up and give me solid resolve for the rest of the day.

Just like The Purrfect Cup, I only have this mixed with Matevana. But, that being said, I’ve had Matevana on its own enough to know how it tastes.

DavidsTEA taught me that I love a chocolate tea with chili. Azteca Fire, with its strawberry notes, is lovely and sweet. I don’t drink this (or my blend) a lot because it’s a little too much for every day but it’s just enough for right now, nursing my seething hangover.

Midsummer Night's Dream from DAVIDsTEA
82

I like to make sure there’s loads of apple and gooseberries in my steeper when I make this.

I much prefer it iced to hot, but the blend of fruit and the orange oil along with the mint makes this a clean tasting tea that doesn’t need to be sweetened. Delish.

Love Tea #7 from DAVIDsTEA
34

Definitely not for me. I was careful to follow steeping instructions, but I couldn’t shake the notion that I was drinking perfume.

Sad, as the ingredient list is full of things I like.

Cold 911 from DAVIDsTEA
70

I’m hoping to grab some of this shortly.

The mint alone helps make colds seem less awful, but the overall taste of the tea is pleasant rather than medicinal. As with most things that contain juniper, I can’t quite shake the gin smell. But I’m over it. I drink this even when I’m not ill.

Japanese Wild Cherry from Teavana
70

One of the only teas in the world I don’t sweeten.

Beautiful rich cherry taste.

MateVana from Teavana
63

Despite not liking nutty teas too much, I like MateVana. I think it’s because it really does remind me of a coffee.

It has a decent amount of sweetness, and the chocolate taste is fantastic. I once burnt this, though, and it was only a cup of oversweet regret. Watch your temperature.

Superfruit Unity from Teavana
68

Great iced tea. Really rich in its fruit flavours.

The orange and apple notes really come through as well!

Pumpkin Chai from DAVIDsTEA
83

I can see why this sucker has been brought back 2 years in a row. Man-oh-man.

It’s a bit… strange to smell. It has a nice scent to it, vaguely of pumpkin and a warm caramel note, but not what I was anticipating. And certainly not what I got when I made it.

Oh MAN. ♥

I drink this a lot, especially as a latte. It’s rich and warm and I feel very relaxed and happy when I drink it. Pumpkin Chai takes me to my happy place!

Citron Sonata Green Tea from Teavana
58

Got this tea as a recommendation from a friend when I said “I like fruit teas”.

Not exactly what I was expecting, honestly. I tend to drift more towards a white or black than a green. Nice smell, a bit tart for my tastes. This is pretty excellent if you have a cold, though. Makes you feel overall better and relaxed.

Precious White Peach from Teavana
65

I love me a tea that tastes like peaches, and this is no exception.

Makes a nice, pale yellow tea. Very mellow and smooth. Can stand up to sweetening.

Pineapple Kona Pop! from Teavana
61

I have this blended with Blueberry Bliss and Fruito Bianco Pearls (someone made a mess of a mix, I loved the smell).

The Pineapple notes really come through, but there is a strangely candy-like note to the tea overall.

Glitter & Gold from DAVIDsTEA
95

!

This is my favourite Davids Tea. Other things come close, but this is what I always go back to.

Brews a nice golden brown tea with gold sparkles. Smells like cinnamon and spice.

G+G is versatile and can stand up to any kind of mixing you want to throw at it. It drinks well hot, cold, with or without sweetener, and with or without milk. It’s a good gift if you know anyone in your life that loves shiny things (I get way too excited over revealing that it sparkles when its brewed).

Gyokuro Genmaicha Green Tea from Teavana
77

I’m not always in the mood for this, and sometimes forget I have it, but it’s such a nice light tea.

Normally I’ll make a small Yixing pot of this and let it sit for a little while after it’s steeped. I am a sweet tea drinker by nature, but I will only add honey to this on occasion. The Gyokuro doesn’t quite lend to a sweet tea taste.

Chocolate Chili Chai from DAVIDsTEA
81

Nom!

Brews a dark, rich spicy tea. Works really well as a dessert tea. Nice blend of peppercorn and chocolate. Good with and without milk.

Checkmate from DAVIDsTEA
73

I’m surprised I like Checkmate at all. Typically I’m not a fan of coconut or anything with that sort of flavour, but this is great. It’s easy to scald the white leaves while you’re perfectly steeping the black, so erring on the side of lower temperature water for longer will probably help.

It’s a light brown when brewed. Good sweetened, unsweetened, with or without milk; both hot and iced. (A co-worker told me to try it iced with milk and a big of agave. Agh. <3)

My favourite use of this was around Christmas, I was making eggnog lattes with 2 tsp of Checkmate and a tsp of honey. Glorious.

Profile

Bio

I’ll be upfront, I did work retail and inventory for one of the tea chains. I’ve been a lover of loose leaf for three or four years, but I’ve barely begun to learn all the nuances of the tea world.

A lover of citrus, fruit, and spice.
