Tried this again today. I did get the cookie feel from it, however it was still.. not enough. I think I need to try this at a robust level, and maybe with a black base.

Flavors: Bread, Butter, Cream

Preparation
Iced 0 tsp 3 OZ / 78 ML
MissB

That’s 0.25 tsp in 1/3 cup of cream again.

Also, watch out for offput clicks – somehow I got “Asparagus” as a flavor in here. ;)

drank Caramel Vanilla Assam by Butiki Teas
1500 tasting notes

A sipdown, only because I’ve packed up the rest of what I had for a fellow Steepsterite that LOVES this. I can always order more!

I did however want to try it, because gosh darn it, I should try a tea before sending some out, right? Was a in a bit of a rush making this, and I did have to overleaf ever so slightly (2 1/4 tsp) just because there was a tiny bit left over. This smelled really strong as I brewed it, and I was a touch concerned. I added sweetener before tasting it – I could just tell this was going to be strong. And, while lovely (I definitely got the caramel and vanilla out of it) the base was too strong for me, and it ended up drowning out everything else. I ended up dumping about half of the cup, because as it cooled, the base only got stronger. :(

Flavors: Caramel, Vanilla, Wood

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML

i love this tea….. happy sigh.

hen did steepster change over? where have i been?

MissB

It changed over earlier today, you’re okay. :) When you do your first tasting note you’ll see a link to a message from the Steepster team about it. As for this tea, well who do you think I packed it up for? ;)

Dustin

The Irish Cream Cheesecake does the same thing and gets stronger and a little bitter as it cools. Best drunk hot!

Woot! Came home to this awesome new interface. I want to play… :)

Thanks to Sil for sharing this with me, I’m really glad you were able to part with a bit of matcha for me to try.

I smelled just the normal matcha smell opening up this bag as well as during mixing. It’s Distinctive-level flavoring, so I guess it could go either way. I do eat a LOT of macadamia nuts, so I was really looking for that flavor. What I got however was a strong buttery taste, followed by a nondescript nut flavor. That was it. Boo. I did play with it a bit (matcha and liquid) and this was the volume of water and amount of matcha that it tasted the best at, for me. Still yummy and delicious, however I wanted macadamia nut praline, darn it! :)

Flavors: Butter, Nuts

Oh my. 0.25 tsp defaults to 0? Interesting. Good to know.

MissB

Oh wait, it’s all rounded up. Erp. this is a problem when using weird measurements. This was 1/4 tsp in 1/3 a cup of whipping cream – which SHOULD be 0.25 tsp in 2.67 oz.

Starfevre

whipping cream? really?

MissB

Yea, it sounds silly, however I’m currently on an eating regimen that requires me to eat 85% or more of my diet as fat (yes, this is totally legit, and yes, this is for medical purposes – it’s going beautifully!) Whipping cream is great in this case, although it still feels ridiculously indulgent.

Starfevre

Weird! Well, I hope your diet does what it’s supposed to! I can’t even drink 2% milk because it feels too thick.

MissB

It’s already cleared up 80% of the medical crud within a week, and to boot I’ve gone down one size in clothing. Added (surprising) perk!

Sil

weird.. this isn’t showing up in my dashboard…

Sil

i see..somehow you become unfollowed miss B….grrrrrr

MissB

Oh, boo. I have to go look at your tasting notes for this one.

Interestingly, the bit of this that I got from (I think) CelebriTEA had zero chocolate or cacao or whatever in it. This blend that I just got direct from Verdant? Full of big pieces of what looks and tastes like something cocoa-ish. I think I like this blend more.

Definitely needs a much longer steep and lower temperature to bring out the best in this brew. Will try at an even lower temp in the next few days to see if it makes more of a difference.

Good tip, I will have to try this

I’ll keep your steeping note in mind when I try this one ;)

Interesting how I rated this so highly when I rarely reach for it, and have actually avoided it on a few occasions. I find it tastes too much like rooibos to me, or at least that’s my memory of it, so I avoid it. I do like it – it’s very good at mimicking what I remember as apple stolen. I just… am learning that I like apple teas less and less, and this is okay, however far from amazing.

200 °F / 93 °C 4 min, 30 sec
Yvonne

The name sounds so much more promising :(

Suziqzer

How does this compare to Bluebird Tea’s apple strudel?

MissB

I wasn’t a fan of either one; I think I gave you the last of the Bluebird.

Suziqzer

Yes you did …. It was one of the ones in your stash sale I wanted to try & I enjoy it, right now anyway. Using it sparingly.. :)

drank Turmeric Snap (Organic) by DAVIDsTEA
1500 tasting notes

So… I’m almost out of this lovely bit that Janelle shared with me (thank you so much, again!) and I need to figure out what I’ll do next. Perhaps make my own version, sans rooibos, and see if I can get it just right? I think that’s likely my best bet… I just need to get myself down to Commercial Drive, where the best (and freshest) herbs for this kinda thing are… or at least in my opinion, they are.

I guzzled this down cold, because it was like drinking turmeric candy. Yea, I know that sounds weird. I’m a weirdo. :)

drank Organic Cold 911 by DAVIDsTEA
1500 tasting notes

Funny, I thought oversteeping this for 20+ minutes would make it stronger. Sure, I can really get the eucalyptus now, however it’s soothing, and the elderberries got super sweet and dominant. Still, it’s pretty much the same as when you steep it like, you know, a normal person.

drank Vanilla Cream Pie by CaesarsTea
1500 tasting notes

Hm. I wonder who sent me this cute package from CaesarsTea to try? Of course, it’s VariaTEA. Thank you! :)

This was a delicious cup that I drank way too fast earlier this evening. There’s vanilla, there’s cream, yes, there’s even a custard-like finish to it. I missed the actual crust/pie part, however it’s still delicious as-is.

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 1 min, 45 sec
VariaTEA

Yay! I am glad you liked it.

Profile

Bio

A few years ago, the obsession with tea started. The cupboard got bigger and bigger, more swaps occurred, group buys, secret rendezvous with local teapassionistas… and that’s how you end up with 500+ different kinds of tea in your home. At one time.

Almost all of the tea was given away, sold, or otherwise shared. A few relics still remain. I now travel full time with only two carryon bags to my name. One quarter of those bags are tea.

It’s still a challenge to avoid the chipmunk-like hoarding of The Teas, yet, the lightness of being from having so little compels me more.

If I have enough, I’m happy to share. If I’m in your area, I’d love to swap, meet for tea, and explore together.

As for the day-to-day stuff, I’m focused almost entirely on Love, (yes, with a capital L), Spirit/Self, transformation, travel and my writing and speaking work.

What kinds of teas do I normally like?

YES: flavored teas, fruity, dessert, chai, and spicy (REALLY spicy).

A FONDNESS FOR: all white teas, malty black teas, any herbal or medicinal teas, strange/weird teas you can only get in one place.

ALLERGIC TO: strawberries, lavender

DISLIKES: any added sugars, grains, lapsang souchong, and overly floral teas – I might enjoy a Jasmine Green every once in a while, but unless it’s a creamy floral tea (think roses in a chai, or the smoothness of a floral note in a French tea), I’ll likely pass. Earl Greys are a hit or miss with me; heavy on the cream or fruit notes and I might like it, heavy on the blergamot and I definitely won’t.
