22 Tasting Notes
You know, I read the reviews on here and I thought “yum, a spicy tea; I can take it.”
That was wrong. This is incredibly hot, and I’m afraid I can’t finish a glass of it due to the intense burning it induces in the back of my throat. I love guayusa blends and I bet this is delicious, but I just can’t get past the initial pain. Proceed with caution if your spice tolerance is low!
A delicious black tea; the dry leaves are beautiful, and the steeped tea is very malty and deep in flavor. It’s slightly chocolaty but not nearly as much so as Black Dragon Pearls or the like; overall it seems more balanced but comparably delicious.
This tea tastes distinctly of white grape; the white/grassy notes are not entirely present and the flavor feels slightly artificial, but I would definitely have several more cups when I’m in the mood for something light and fruity.
Chocolate! It tastes more like chocolate than any tea I’ve ever had that didn’t actually have chocolate in it. Six pearls was more than enough for two steeps of this rich, chocolatey, malty delight.
It tastes like grapefruit! The black tea base isn’t exactly thrilling, but it’s suitable, especially in the morning in lieu of orange juice.
This is admittedly my first experience with Gen Mai Cha, but it’s delicious. The brewed smell is nutty and reminds me of a bowl of rice krispies cereal, and the taste is a delightful blend of green tea and nutty flavors. I’ll definitely be buying more when I run low.
Having never been to China I can’t attest to whether or not this truly tastes of Longan berries, but I can attest to the fact that it is quite tasty.
It smells very floral (the smell of longan, I reckon), and it tastes sweet yet balanced. Also, the unfurled leaves are far larger than many black teas that I’ve encountered. Overall I’m happy I have 4oz. of this to work through.
Well that was disappointing. The leaf quality seemed much lower than other Tea Forte teas, and as others have said the black pepper unpleasantly dominates. It reminds me of the Tazo Chai tea, so if you like that maybe you would enjoy this.
