Long Island Strawberry from Steam Tea House
80

I’m pleasantly surprised by this tea! I asked, and was warned that it can turn quite bitter if it’s not watched, so I was careful with it. I’m not 100% sure of the water temperature, but I waited about 5-7 minutes then poured the water into my unheated mug, and pushed the tea basket down into the water.

I’ve decided to copy Kittenna by loading up my Contigo travel mugs with different teas, and decided to test this one out in this manner tonight just for kicks.

It is pretty darn awesome. The only tea basket I have that fits these narrower mugs isn’t as fine as I’d like, and there were a lot of floaties in the tea that made me worried. It wasn’t super strawberry flavoured hot, but as it’s cooled down a bit (about 1.5 hours in my mug!) the strawberry has come out. It’s backed nicely by the slightly grassy green tea flavour, and there’s definitely something else in there that’s sweetened. Candied pineapple or papaya? Something that starts with a P…

This is going to be an AWESOME mug tea for me to haul around from campus to campus and sip. Yay!

(Steep 2: Still good! Less strawberry, more green tea. I steeped for 3 minutes with IDEK what temperature the water was, as I used kettle leftovers from something else!)

Bahahaha, love that you’re doing that with your mugs! I’ve loaded up all five of my mugs for today’s excursion to the boyfriend’s place (different city). :D That way I don’t have to bother with brewing stuff at his place!

It just makes sense! I take the bus, so there’s a limit to what I can comfortably carry. I figure 2 tea mugs and a water bottle. :) One of my works has a kitchen with filtered water and an Asian style water heater, so thankfully I can make tea there.

Haha, I take the bus too… three mugs in the middle backpack pouch and one on either side! Plus laptop, cord, lab notebook. Luckily I rarely have to lug textbooks around since I have an office. Neither my office at the university nor my boyfriend’s place is optimal for brewing tea – no filtered water at uni (and I only have teaballs/bags there), and it’s just a nuisance at the boy’s place though he does have a Brita.

Wow! I just bring a purse with an iPad, lunch, tea and some papers. Thankfully both the labs I work in have computers I can use, since my laptop bit the dust a few months ago. I’m tempted to switch back to a backpack, but I was trying to get the weight down as I often walk home, and it’s about 10k. I suppose if most of my tea mugs are empty by the time I head home… :)

Black teas are my favourite, although I do drink the occasional green tea. I am exploring herbal and fruity teas for summer icing and winter evenings, and oolong and pu erh are new and exciting… although I do not like an oolong that tastes mostly of seaweed. I avoid mint, and my BFF is allergic to raspberries, so I read a lot of ingredient listings.

I have discovered that I do not like teas that are too roasty and toasty. Some Rig Red Robe teas are ok, some Yunnan Blacks are ok, some hojichas are ok. Just some. I seem to prefer traditional blends (oh Irish breakfast), Assam, Ceylon and Nilgiri types as unflavored morning caffeine boosts. Flavoured black teas are closest to my heart, and therefore take up the most room in my stomach.

My ratings are based on the little faces, and depend on what face I make when I sip the tea! :)

(Isn’t that a bling-tastic tea cup?)

Also: A map of tea places in Vancouver. I’ve been to some of them, but not a lot. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
