2291 Tasting Notes
Sipdown.
I made this up and took it to gaming yesterday.
It was OK. Not something I’d buy again due to the fact that I’m not a huge fan of iced black teas (except at lunch during the summer, which is really limiting).
Steeped and flash chilled. Made ~2 litres (8 cups, whatever that is). Added 1 tbsp sugar.
(Oh gods, so much sugar yesterday. So. Much. Next time? I need to not snack because wow. Caramel popcorn is my nemesis.)
Preparation
This is a really quite good coconut oolong. I still prefer the one I get from SOKO, because that one is even more floral oolongy with baked coconut flavours.
However, this is a good, slightly less expensive alternative. Definitely something to consider throwing into a future order! I’ll have to see how this one cold steeps, too. :)
Thanks, Cavocorax! (I swear I’ve tried this before, but no note? IDK. My mind is so lost right now.)
So this one came to me from MissB who got it from Angrboda. :)
It was labelled “herbal” so I dumped it into a basket last night… then decided it looked weird and checked it out on steepster. Mate. Of course.
So I’m having it this morning instead. It’s a green mate. I much much prefer them roasted.
But now that it’s been sitting around for a while, it tastes more like lemongrass. I can get behind that.
Thanks for sharing the tea, MissB, but it’s not really for me.
Preparation
The bag I got was from Fru P’s christmas calendar and it was just labelled ‘citrus’. I could see it didn’t have any actual tea in, so I designated it as herbal. (In Denmark mate would fall under that category anyway as it’s very uncommon) The mate surprised me too when I had it. Typical for me, I had it on a day where I had decided to try and avoid caffeine…
9 months ago I made this and noted I had 4 bags left… and I just made the tea up last night.
4 tea bags in 6 cups water overnight in the fridge.
I think I have finally come to the conclusion that I prefer fruit tisanes as cold brews. Even when they’re loaded with hibiscus, I would rather drink this than a cold-brewed black tea. Black tea can be hot brewed and poured over ice for immediate gratification, or in smaller amounts (2-4 cups).
So. I like this better than all the SBT’s I bought just because it’s not a black tea. Even though the SBT’s have better flavour, I just… have been brewing them and then leaving them in the fridge so long I have to throw them out.
So even last time I said less hibiscus-based bagged brews, maybe I should buy more?
Hmmm… Interesting. I’m just getting started with learning what to try as cold brews… should be an interesting summer :)
Some people really like cold brews of black tea. I’ve realized that when I drink a cold brew it’s not because I want more caffeine, it’s because I’m thirsty and I’m using cold brew fruit or herbal stuff as a juice replacement. Iced black tea is great up till about lunch time, but I can’t drink at my desk at work, so it’s a weekend-only kind of thing.
This is actually pretty good. Definitely chili and mango – there was a HUGE mango chunk in my sample from MissB that I needed to chop up for more even distribution. :)
The base isn’t too anything, which is nice. The mango sweetness and chili spice are readily apparent. I’m not getting a lot of pineapple, but there weren’t many pineapple pieces in my sample, at least compared to mango.
Thank you! This was a really interesting tea to try!
I ate a whole tub of not just caramel popcorn but white chocolate coated caramel popcorn over the weekend. I understand. ;_;
MMMMmmmm… Caramel popcorn… never heard of white chocolate coated caramel popcorn.. That might just be over the top for me :)
I’ve seen that stuff and resisted. :) I got a giant bag of the cheddar-and-caramel mix at Costco before gaming, because hormones. Needless to say we ate almost the entire bag. Next time my snack will be hummus and carrots! :)
