2291 Tasting Notes

Thanks, Incendiare!

This tea smells boozy, in a very very good way. Like chocolate liqueur. Yum. Delicious way to start my morning (I’ve been up reading and lazing around in bed for hours, but finally wanted tea enough to get up!).

It is mostly chocolate, with a bit of fruityness/juicyness. The smell is way stronger than the taste, as well.

I’m not sure I’d pick more of this one up, but it’s definitely one of the good options I’ve had from Steeps/Pekoe Tea Lounge.

That’s right. If any Vancouver locals want to try any of the teas, you can get them at Pekoe Tea Lounge. $1 discount if you bring a tin, $0.50 discount if you get a refill bag. They even have $7 slices of gluten free pie.

drank Strawberry Ginger by DAVIDsTEA

Sip down this morning. I cold steeped overnight then had a couple did to decide if I wanted to brin it with me or not.

Not. It went down the drain. Something about it was too leafy-dirt-like for me, and I found it really unpleasant. Too bad, because the first couple times I had this one I thought it was great. But now it’s gone and I can’t buy more, and that’s fine.

Fjellrev

I know, right? I too got the cellar note from it.

OMGsrsly

I always had such high hopes for this one, every time I heard the name. Why’s it so hard to find a good strawberry tea?

Fjellrev

Yeah, you’d think strawberry wouldn’t be such a hard thing to do.

Meh. A 3 minute steep and the base is turning bitter. I’ll have to try a cold steep, because it smells AMAZING.

JustJames

now that’s an idea… i have some awesome smelling blends from steap shoppe that just don’t work for me hot.

OMGsrsly

Weirdly it mellowed out after sitting on my desk for an hour. So it could be good flash-chilled too. I might add a shake of cinnamon to it. :)

drank Mulberry Magic by DAVIDsTEA

Sipdown!

Having it iced. It’s pretty good. Not as nutty as Pistachio Cream. Not as sweet, either.

I don’t know that either of them are a re-buy, and it’s hard to decide between the two teas.

I’ll probably pick up one or the other at a later date, just because it’s nice to have iced.

Edit: Sipping on it more, I definitely taste the macadamia nuts. It feels very rich because of the flavour, and the super fatty nuts that are in the tisane. Hmm. Pretty good, but not what I was really thinking it’d be like.

Sipdown yay! I cold steeped this one overnight and drained it into my mug this morning. Delicious apple berry flavour. I liked it even better this way.

I might need to pick up some more…

Because Cavocorax said she wanted more flavour when she had the tea, I steeped it for more like 20 minutes. Maybe longer.

The honeybush is quite strong, I think. I haven’t really had enough to determine what part of that is sandalwood and what part isn’t. The orange is very much in the background, but it came out a bit more with the addition of a tiny bit of honey.

I don’t know that I love this one, but it is pleasant enough. I think I’ll try it iced and cold steeped before I make a final decision.

It does smell good. The best worst idea would be to put it in a mesh bag and toss it in the bath…

Edit: I’m dumping this. I probably oversteeped it, and there’s a terrible sour aftertaste. :/

Ok, so somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes then?

OMGsrsly

Yes. :) I will try 15, and ice some of it too. Tomorrow, though.

Fjellrev

Honeybush + 20 min steep sounds dangerous.

OMGsrsly

It was, Incendiare. It really was. As it cooled more it got really not tasty.

drank SoHo Blend by Harney & Sons

Another sample from Incendiare. :)

I used all the leaves today, just dumped them into my steeper and guesstimated how much water would fill my mug.

This tea is good, but not as good as Florence. Also not as good as that coconut oolong DavidsTea had in the spring.

I added a bunch of sugar to this one, perhaps too much. It reminds me of a Bounty bar, but… IDK. Just something about it isn’t exactly what I hoped for when I saw “chocolate and coconut”.

I don’t think I’d buy a whole tin of this, but if they have sample packs I’ll add one to my next order – need to play with this one a bit more, as I think it’d make an excellent latte.

A Bounty bar haha. I haven’t had one of those in ages. I wasn’t huge on this one either – the idea seemed so great though!

Fjellrev

I could always give you more of this one too since I do have a whole tin. :)

Hmm…..

drank Pistachio Cream by DAVIDsTEA

I got a bit of this to try, because it smelled delicious (creamy and nutty. Ahem) and the Sugar and Spice just smelled like cloves.

I really like this one. It’s very similar to Mulberry Magic, but without the weird walnut-skin flavour I got from the nuts in that one. I think there’s also a bit more of a creamy flavour in this one. I made a tea pot, iced half (I’ve gulped it down, yum!) and left half hot (just starting to be drinkable). It’s very sweet, and even sweeter and creamier hot. It tastes a little green as well, probably because of all the chlorophyll in those leaves! I think I might prefer it iced, because the coldness makes it feel less sweet and pudding-like, but it’s pretty good hot as well.

It also expands a LOT. I used 1 tbsp in my 16 oz tea pot with a large basket, and the leaves started lifting the lid!

If you like pistachio pudding or Mulberry Magic, this one might be something you enjoy.

I’m back and forth on whether I like this or Mulberry Magic more… MM is slightly cheaper so that could be a deciding factor, but I do like the creaminiess. I think it’s because my second steep fell flat that I can’t remember how great the first one was…

caile

I don’t think I’ve ever had mulberry tea – I think I should try this.

I did it again, guys. 50/50 Bayswater Creme Brulee and Divine Temptation. Both the black tea versions.

It’s so good. It’s nutty and sweet and sorta coffee-like. Maybe a little chicory. IDK, it just reminds me of camping and hanging out with my grandparents.

Whelp. I guess I know which “tea” I’m bringing hiking in Sept. Definitely have to bring this one. (Maybe I’ll bring a mickey of amaretto as well. Really get the nostalgia-factor high!)

Geez, I better get on trying all “three” (each alone, then the 50/50), thanks to Heather. Sounds like a comforting combination to take along when you’re outdoors.

OMGsrsly

I’m not a huge fan of the Creme Brulee on its own, as there’s too much of the burnt sugar/coffee type taste for me. Mixed, though, it’s so yummy. I’m going to try it with H&S Florence (chocolate!) too.

Fjellrev

Good tip! Here I was going to guess that Divine Temptation would sooner need to be mixed because it looks like it would be too sweet on its own.

OMGsrsly

It isn’t actually too sweet on its own. :) Well, not if you like a little sugar in your tea. I usually add 1/4-1/2 tsp per 16 oz travel mug, so the Divine Temptation was fine.

50/50 Bayswater black Creme Brulee and Divine Temptation. With milk and sugar because wow.

Wow.

WOW.

Hazelnut nougat, sweetness, burnt sugar/coffee-ish flavour. So good.

Haha. Sounds great. Maybe I’ll make something like that to distract me while I clean our fridge. :)

Plunkybug

I am definitely doing this. I remember thinking about mixing the two whence were in the shop.

OMGsrsly

Yep, you gave me the idea, Heather! Thanks. :D I might have to bring a tin in and get 50g of each mixed in the tin. It’s going to go FAST. Thankfully their teas are really reasonable.
