Over-steeped this one by a few minutes, so kinda bitter…But still made for a nice cup. (:

So this one of the first teas I fell in love with which wasn’t from Teavana. Don’t drink it as much as I used to, but decided to drink it today. It was still enjoyable. But the rooibos is so much more apparent to me than before. It’s still really sweet and syrup-y, but compared to like DavidsTea’s Birthday Cake it’s just not as good. I will still enjoy finishing this one off, just won’t be a repurchase. Nice for this morning though!

drank Vanilla Comoro by Harney & Sons

This was my last cuppa tea before I got ready for bed tonight. So warm and comforting. Love the vanilla flavors. Think I oversteeped it a wee bit because I definitely tasted the black tea base this time. But even so-such a comforting tea! :D

drank Melon Oolong by Lupicia

Took this in a travel mug this morning to my app. Didn’t go so well…I’ve done it before, and the melon flavor keeps, but whenever I drank it it just tasted like oolong. :( Weird.
Guess I will just drink this at home!
On the bright side I swung by Lupicia before my app so picked up more of this! :D

Okay…first off..WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON YOU GUYS!?!?!
Literally have seen like 8 different people reviewing WP’s North Winds today-like did I not get the memo that it was official North Winds day? Or like is this a trippy twilight zone moment? I’m so confused…
Was this planned even? This just is weird….
Anyway. XD
Haven’t been able to drink much tea today because I had a nerve block shot at UCLA, so was out most of the day. By the time I got home, I felt so horrible that all I wanted was a rooibos tea, and this one seemed perfect.
Last time I oversteeped this one, but this time it was spot on! So happy to have this one in my stash finally! Definitely a keeper!:D

Christina

I’m not sure what a nerve block shot is, but it sounds unpleasant. I’m glad that this tea was waiting for you when you got home!

Sil

yeah i saw that last night…it made me laugh

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Hahaha, I realized that the old version of NW was so much different from the new version, so I made a new page for it and asked people to migrate their reviews over. Also you’re in the twilight zone. Don’t be afraid, you are safe.

Ost

Okay, okay, glad I’m not just going crazy-that was really weirding me out haha!

Lindsay

“Also you’re in the twilight zone. Don’t be afraid, you are safe.”
That makes me smile every time I see it. :)

Didn’t really taste like much. :/ Disappointed kinda…
Thanks for the sample though, LiberTEAS!

Feel like I have heard so much about this company…so I was pretty excited to finally try one of their teas. This one tasted strongly of hay. Not really sweet even, just of hay…
If I were to drink a silver needle, it would definitely not be this one…would probably go for a sweeter one, because that adds a lot for me.
Oh well. Glad I tried. Thanks for the sample, LiberTEAS!

Flavors: Hay

What-Cha

The Kenyan Purple Silver Needles are a newly developed tea and I’ve done a lot of experimenting to get the best out of them and have found that generous leaf quantities with a higher than normal water temperature for whites combined with a long brew (6-8 minutes) can produce a very special and unique cup of tea. I think the issue may be that the purple buds have a thicker outer layer than non-purple buds hence utilising the same brewing methods elicits a weaker cup of tea.

Hope you get an opportunity to try some of my other teas

the hay taste probably would not bother me

drank Organic Green Tea by Arum Tea

Never had a green tea that tastes like floral before, so this one is a first!
It’s still mostly grassy, but it definitely has floral notes in it. It looks like it could be an oolong because the leaves are wrapped up in little balls, so even though the name had the word “green” in it, it still threw me off a bit. xD
If it had been more floral and less bitter, I’d have liked it more. But always glad to broaden my tea horizons! Thank you, LiberTEAS for the sample! :D

I definitely oversteeped this one. >< Couldn’t find out how long to steep it for though, so I did it for like 4 mins or so. Apparently that was too long, because it turned out REALLY bitter.
I could still taste the vanilla though. It was a deep, and yet kinda fluffy vanilla, kinda like a marshmallow. If I hadn’t oversteeped it, it would have been a wonderful cuppa!
I will have to mess around with it some more till I get it right!
Thank you for the sample, LiberTEAS! I do love to try another vanilla tea!

Flavors: Bitter, Vanilla

Anlina

I’m not sure why, but all of the Secret Garden blacks I tried were very sensitive to over steeping. I did them all at 3min or less, and even 3 min was really pushing it. Cooler water might also be worth trying (I used 96C)

Ost

Thanks for the tip!! I will definitely keep that in mind next time I try it! I tend to forget about teas while steeping, so I’ll be super cautious with this one!

Can’t take any pain killers today because of my stupid body deciding that this past weekend has been a great time to be constipated. >> Soo I have to do things to distract me from the all this pain. Drinking tea is a good distraction! So back to sampling all the ones I’ve gotten from swaps over the last few weeks! :D
So thanks to LiberTEAS for a sample of this one! :D
The steeping aroma was pretty woody, which made me kinda skeptical. But the actual taste was decent. Mainly just malt. Not much else. Not as strong as I’d like in an malty assam, but hey! It’s not wood flavored! So it’s fine with me xD

Flavors: Malt, Wood

Hope you feel better soon. It sucks to have to choose between two miseries.

Perhaps TMI (okay, definitely TMI) but a nice gongfu session with some sheng always fixes that issue for me.

Ost

Thanks, Anlina, I’m so much better now. Thank God! XD
And cookies sorry if that disturbed you…but once you have health issues for a long time there’s no such thing as TMI. XD But really, sorry if that creeped you out-I forget normal people aren’t so blunt-haha!

Haha, no ;) I was talking about my comment!

Profile

Bio

I’m not too sharp with intros, but I figured it is about time to give it a go.
I started out drinking oolong and green tea that my dad brought home from his China business trips.
Then I discovered Teavana, and fell in love with some of their teas. Eventually I stumbled across Steepster, and a whole ‘nother world opened up.
Have discovered so many different kinds of teas, and have been loving this journey! The tea world is insanely big and amazing! And I’ve met some of the kindest people here who have broadened my horizons in more ways I could have imagined! Happy to be here, and to be drinking so many amazing teas! :D

My rating system:
1-59: Really really not a fan. An awful cup of tea for me…Totally undrinkable.

60-69: Not horrible, but not something I’d ever drink again willingly.

70-79: Pretty good. Wouldn’t mind drinking ever so often. But not a keeper.

80-100: FREAKIN’ AMAZING. Always keeping on stock in my home!!

I like pretty much any kind of tea except green tea. Unless it’s genmaicha or strongly flavored, I don’t like it usually.

My Tea Goals:
To find the Best Caramel Tea
To find the Best Vanilla Tea
To find the Best floral Oolong
To find the Best Malty Assam Tea
To find the Best Maple/Syrup Tea

Notes I like: Fruit(primarily peach, melon/honeydew, Banana, Kiwi, but I’m open to other kinds), Malt, Desserts (Toffee, Cake, Cookie, etc), Vanilla, Caramel, Floral, Sweet potato, Pastry/Bread,Jasmine, Honey, Cocoa, Chocolate, Maple, Nutty, Coconut, Almond.

Notes I’m Picky with: Lemon, Chai, Roasted, Blueberries, Hibiscus, Smoke, Earthiness, Puerhs, White Teas, and Cinnamon

Notes I hate: Citrus/Orange (Everything that I hate in this life that I have to take for my health is orange flavored, and it just makes me gag…so please…just no), Watermelon, Raspberry, Wood, Apple, Bacon, Lavender, Most mints, Pepper, Spicy, Tart/sour.

Yes, I am a picky tea drinker, but I’ll usually try any straight black or oolong tea that I receive. I like most oolongs, and I’m still discovering straight blacks. They always seem to surprise me no matter what!

And Swaps! I’m always down for swapping. Everything in my cupboard is swap-able. So just hit me up and send a message and we can totally do that!

On an unrelated to tea note, my other interests are limited due to health issues. But when I can, I enjoy reading and writing. Watching Netflix and YouTube have also been fantastic when I feel awful (which is most of the time).
I love Rifftrax, Rooster Teeth, Dexter, Hannibal, BBC’s Robin Hood, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Psych, and Parks and Rec.
Love watching all sorts of movies too, but that would be too much to list. :P
I’m definitely more of an internet person and love talking to people on every website I’m on. So if you ever wanna chat, shoot me a message! ^^
