29 Tasting Notes

Pumpkin Spice from Teaopia
26

Pleh. There is nothing “pumpkin” about this tea – it’s Papaya Spice. Sure, the spices are those associated with pumpkin pies, but coming in expecting something with that great, earthy pumpkin feeling… I was disappointed deeply. To me, the papaya is too summery, as well, so even as a seasonal tea I wouldn’t care for it.

Also, I’m not a fan of papaya, so there’s nothing actually redeeming it for me. _;

Buttered Rum (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
27

This one’s a sometimes-tea for me. Another blend we have for my boyfriend’s benefit in the house. I find this blend very dark and rich, but not earthy. There’s a light note from the “buttered” side, but generally I find this one a little strong for me. A nice tea for wintertime, but not my favourite!

Toasted Walnut from DAVIDsTEA
Whisky White from DAVIDsTEA
1

My boyfriend loves this, and I cannot stand it.

I’m afraid I personally have nothing good to say about it; it makes me feel nauseous, and makes my gag reflex act up. It smells SO LOVELY and like a banana-coconut blend before it’s brewed, and I don’t pick up the whisky at all. But once the water’s in, I get whisky.

I’ll add – and I think this is IMPORTANT – I don’t drink. Ever. I can’t. So I don’t know if my reaction to it is related to that, but for me this is just too much. But the boyfriend finds it quite nice. _

Cherry Rose "Beautify me" from Distinctly Tea
Lose Me {droppa few} from Distinctly Tea

This tea is a pretty nice mango blend, but I think I’m oversteeping it; I find it’s hard not to make a bitter mango tea! Until I can master brewing this baby properly, I’ll leave off on any in-depth reviews! ;~;

Creamy Nut Oolong from Teaopia
92

I didn’t think I would care for this tea – don’t know why, I just assumed. How wrong I was – when I finally smelled it, it was everything I had been looking for; I just hadn’t known where to look! This blend is so sweet, but not overpoweringly so. It’s got caramel and almond that I had expected Caramelissimo to deliver, but I didn’t find it did. this was just what the doctor ordered. The almond isn’t super powerful, too, whereas some almond teas can taste entirely different. Give this one a sniff while you can (before Teaopia is gone to become Teavanna!) and decide quickly if you’d like to take some home! And don’t forget to try it as a latté with vanilla soy if you like it sweet! 0

Pink Flamingo from DAVIDsTEA
87

This tea is suh-weet! I don’t mind it hot, but I’d rather drink something else. But iced? Yahoo!

It is so delicious, with a great medley of flavours great for an iced drink that is very sweet. If you have kids, I’d say this is a great alternative to sweet drinks loaded with additional sugars. Plus you can always throw in some lemon if you like to taste! I made this in my home (no kids here) where we rarely stock iced tea, and it disappeared in no time! The bright red/pink colour, too, will trick kids into thinking they’re drinking their Kool-aid wannabe stuff. But nooo… It’s tea! So great!

Glitter & Gold from DAVIDsTEA
95

This spicy tea is just lovely! I got it from my sister (!!) when it was being discontinued (tears were shed!) but then it came back!! But because of its rarity back then, I drink this tea quite sparingly, and generally only for special occasions! It really makes this tea special to me, so, yes, I’m biased!

The dragees add a cute, very “David’s” element to the tea, and when you steep it, look into your cup to see it sparkling gently! So pretty! You’ll feel like royaltea! ^^ They do nothing for flavour (like dragees ever do. =_=) but they really do add a level of richness to the experience! This tea makes me feel so ritzy! And I just adore watching it sparkle; makes me not want to drink it and make them go away, but that’s why you make a big pot!

Dreamsicle from DAVIDsTEA
77

STEEP THIS BABY, AND STEEP IT LONG!

I find it’s not nearly as satisfying as the smell if you don’t steep the heck out of it, but that could just be me. A lot of people seem to think the scent beats the flavour, but who knows! I guess you’ve got to try it.

To think that it’s flavoured with white chocolate kind of shocks me; I don’t care for white chocolate, but it really works nicely. The orange is really nice – it’s a great tea for getting away from spiced orange and into sweet orange; a big difference! Don’t expect it to blend perfectly into kts namesake popsicle, but you can always try! If you want, a neat thing to try is making a latté with vanilla soy! I find it really… Wow. But not always something I’d want!

Fantasy Island from DAVIDsTEA
84

I don’t like raspberry teas, and I generally dislike coconut. But you know what? Sometimes two wrongs DO make a right!

Every time I drink this I could SWEAR there was a hint of dark chocolate in there, but it doesn’t appear there IS, so I guess that gives you an idea of how this can taste. It’s sweet, dark, and deep. Really great, I think, for the coffee lover who enjoys sweet things. I’m always surprised by this tea because I really do like it so much – but if I let myself break it down in my mind and separate the flavours so I can taste them distinctly, I’m like, “Bleh!” but then I let them become one once again, and it’s lovely.

Another great tea for the colder months, this one just warms you up from within. Again, I want to say it’s the dark chocolate but THERE IS NONE!

Dulce & Banana from DAVIDsTEA
11

My low rating is completely personal; I cannot stand banana in teas. I keep trying, and to me, they keep failing. And I swear they give me burps. ;3; Even without that, I don’t find this blend to be particularly appealing; a lot of nice flavours/scents (chamomile, lavender, lemongrass) and then with… “caramalized banana”?! It just doesn’t fly.

That and rooibos take a lot to impress me for some reason. This one is just too sweet, making my throat burn.

Forever Nuts from DAVIDsTEA
95

I was told you can eat the nuts after steeping. … I don’t think you should do it. Soggy nuts are not great. Just my opinion.

BUT WOW, IS THIS TEA EVER GREAT! I looove it! It’s so… Nutty! Of course! It really is, as described, earth, deep, oh… Just so… Musky like a forest! And just stuffing your nose in the vapours and breathing them in… Beautiful. Absolute must for autumn, in my opinion; it really gives you that sense of damp fallen leaves, but in a warm, soothing cuppa that just makes everything seem so far away and unimportant. This tea is so dreamy; I didn’t expect to like it, but I love it. And, it’s an almond tea that does NOT taste like “all the other” almond teas! It’s very distinct. And the brilliant pink colour from the beetroot (which I don’t know if I taste, and that’s not a bad thing) is just so unexpected and sweet. It’s a very pleasant experience, from scent to taste to sight.

Cute from Assamiea Tea
34

With a name like “Cute” I couldn’t resist wanting this tea~! My boyfriend ended up getting it for me for St Valentine’s Day, which was absolutely wonderful; I was really looking forward to seeing how it was… I was … Kind of disappointed. I really like lavender, but this, to me, smells a lot like cloves, though there are none. O_o; It’s a strong, spicy tea, and it’s okay… It’s just not my thing – or what I was expecting. Really cute little tin, though! -;

Lemon Cream Pie from DAVIDsTEA
95

You probably know, if you’ve had it, that this tea has been discontinued. WHY DO I STILL HAVE SOME LEFT!? Well, because I can’t bring myself to finish it. The day I went to refill my can was the day I found out. Luckily, my helpful store employee directed me to Tealish’s website and told me to try the Lemon Meringue Pie they had, which I keep meaning to do, but never have the funds.

Anyway, I love this tea. I blasted through it pretty quickly, and it’s one of the few citrus teas I’ve REALLY, REALLY enjoyed. It really does have that lemon meringue pie filling taste – I’ve never had a lemon CREAM pie, so I can’t compare to that. Sorry. I’d love if it were a bit “creamier”, though. It’s sweet like the pie filling, or sweet lemon curd, but it doesn’t have another level for the “cream” part of its own.

That being said, I don’t think it loses a LOT to that fact; it’d be amaaazing if that multi-dimensional aspect were that, but doing just one thing, it does it well. I would call this the lemon equivalent to David’s Tea’s Dreamsicle tea. Absolutely lovely – and I’ve never even tried it iced. I would, but, you know… Limited supply left FOREVER. ;_; Maybe if I get Tealish’s Lemon Meringue Pie!

Santa's Secret from DAVIDsTEA
95

We have, I believe, three tins of this throughout our house. None of them are full – they are all nearly empty, waiting for November to roll around so we can restock.

This minty mixture is soooo nice – it’s a lighter, sweeter mint than you’ll find from a Marakesh Mint tea, which is perfect for a pepperminty experience in the wintertime, but with the same soothing effects. The little candy cane candies don’t add any flavour (in fact, you’ll probably never see them biodegrade while in your teapot) but they add to the festive charm of this tea. Definitely a lovely touch for the mint-lover, a great after-dinner tea, and just so perfect for a cold day when you want to be reminded that something sweet is just around the corner! My boyfriend is in absolute love with this tea, and I blame him that we’re always out – he just brews pot after pot after pot (he uses a small pot and never re-steeps!) and it drives me a little nuts, but I swear I’ve never seen him love a tea quite as much as he love’s Santa’s Secret!

Caramel Spice from DAVIDsTEA
9

Ehhhh. Meh.

My boyfriend had to pick this one up, yet here it lingers, unfinished a year later. I find he likes much darker, headier teas than I do, so that’s why I can’t really stand making a cup/pot of this tea when there are others around that I know I will enjoy far more.

It also has a really odd scent to it, considering its name. Caramel Spice? I’d say… Fruity citrusy spice, to be honest. I don’t taste any hints of caramel, and to me that’s deeply disappointing. And I find the spices kind of shock my throat into feeling a little sore – like I’m on the brink of a cold. Not pleasant for me.

Also, David’s Tea’s description of it makes me want to puke/kick someone/find out if my boyfriend is cheating on me. I hope they’re not making their tea descriptions so sexual anymore. =_=; I imagine a deep sexy-times voice narrating it to me. “You’re going to want her by your side… alllll falllll… Oooh, yeahhh…” Eugh. Just a lose-lose-lose tea to me. And those mulberries look absolutely grotesque. Just sayin’.

Midsummer Night's Dream from DAVIDsTEA
68

This tea has a lot going on – and sometimes that just doesn’t work; it can be too much. Looking at the ingredients list for this one, you’d think, “It’ll either fly or it won’t.”

Baby, it flies! Citrusy, fruity, mildly minty, and even flowery, this tea is a real blend of everything you’d imagine a beautiful evening in the garden to be. You know, if it were idyllic when you were out there. It’s very, very well-balanced.

My rating for this doesn’t fly the highest, however, simply because I’m not hugely into fruity teas, and out of all its elements, I would describe this one as predominantly fruity. It’s gorgeous hot or iced, but it’s not among my top faves – if fruity was my thing, however, I think it would be!

Oh Canada from DAVIDsTEA
95

You want a sweet tea? I WILL GIVE YOU A SWEET TEA! Here it is; OH CANADA! Nothing could be sweeter than this cheery blend of toffee, caramel, maple syrup, more stuff that aren’t necessarily sweet, and a garnish of cute, colourful maple candies to top it off, how can you go wrong?! Of course, if you dislike sweet teas, this is a verrrry sweet tea, but wow, is it fun!

I find this tea particularly wonderful for autumn (maybe it’s the little maple leaves, makes me see the changing leaves outside!) alongside David’s Tea’s Pumpkin Chai, but whereas P-Chai brings me to a mellow, calm, warm place, Oh Canada takes me on a sweet, bubbly ride!

Also, this cheers me up immensely when I have a cold; it’s absolutely a comfort tea, and while I wouldn’t have it every day, it’s still an absolute joy to have on hand!

Creme Brulee from DAVIDsTEA
11

Okay, so it’s a rooibos. I will blame everything I don’t like about it on that fact. If it ain’t fruity, I tend to not care for rooibos.

Honestly, I LOVE Creme Brulée – the food. I love making them, I love eating them, I love that thin crust of caramelized sugar on top and what it feels like to break your spoon through. The cream underneath, rich and thick and sweet…

But this tea is really THIN to me. Watery, almost a bit fruity (which has no place here in a creme brulée tea, in my opinion) to me. I don’t find the scent particularly “outrageously tempting” – I find it weak. I hoped when I bought it that it would translate stronger into a brewed cup, but for me it just doesn’t stand on its own. Thin, water, kinda sweet, but it doesn’t taste like creme brulée and it doesn’t have the textures reminiscent of it, either. Just a miss for me.

Wild Black Yunnan from DAVIDsTEA
59

I can’t really describe this tea too well. It’s rich, dark, earthy, and very unique. I’d go so far as to call it manly. (Maybe because my boyfriend loves it and he and his friends misread it one time as “Wild Black Woman”!) It’s kind of like a rich, dark green tea, perhaps?

Personally I prefer lighter, sweeter teas, but occasionally I find this perks me up in the winter time, with its very woodsy feel – reminds me of damp autumn days (which are, by comparison, very nice and warm to Canadian winters!), but other times I find it’s just too rich for me, and I don’t want to have to finish my cup. My boyfriend, as I said, loves it, however.

Cream of Earl Grey (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
13

Oh my gosh, who would have though THIS could happen? This tea is TOO SWEET for me!

I LALALOVE cream of Earl Grey teas – I love Ear Grey so much, and adding that punch of sweetness just makes it heavenly for me. I try any cream of Earl Grey I can get my paws on, and I love them all – bagged or otherwise, I am indifferent.

But THIS! This is not a sweet punch, it is a sugary TAKE-DOWN! I can’t even believe how sweet this is – I bought it on the pure trust in my love for David’s Tea doing GREAT sweet dessert teas regularly and nailing them, and the fact that I already know I love Earl Grey cream/vanilla teas. But… Whoops! What a mistake that was!

I personally do NOT taste much of the Earl Grey in there, and it is just TOO DARN SWEET! Like almost syrupy-sweet. My recommendation would be to check out The Earl’s Garden at David’s Tea and compare the two before you buy – who knows, you may like both! But just… Be careful! ;~;

Fireside S'mores Tea from Teaopia
90

I really, really enjoy this tea; the scent is, I think, headier than the brew, so I suggest an uber long steep for myself. But I’m also pretty much a master of not minding an excessive steep.

I love to painstakingly take the little marshmallows out of my tea ball before I brew, and toss them in just with the water to make sure they have their full impact – nothing more tragic than steeping this tea and emptying out your leaves afterwards and seeing little marshmallows that haven’t fully dissolved into your tea!

The texture of this tea is great, and I blame that partially on those little mallows, and I find it brings out the graham cracker texture and taste subtly but well. I don’t really find the chocolate that strong in this, which I find nice, but I can also imagine it’s disappointing for many people.

For myself, I say steep it to high heaven, add milk for a creamier experience, and if you’re feeling fun, creative, and silly – throw in your own full sized marshmallows! It’s nice! And it looks so cute and playful to have marshmallows for your tea; I’d definitely suggest doing it like that if you’re having a get together in the cooler months to warm everyone up – and their spirits! _

Jessie's Tea from DAVIDsTEA
90

Well, this one is a conundrum; reading everyone else’s reviews makes me feel like I’m not insane, at least – I cannot taste the lavender.

I got this tea as a Christmas gift from a tea friend who knows I love lavender, but I’ve put off trying to make a pot because, well, I just can’t smell it. You look at it and you can see it’s in there, but the soft (not heavy for once!) scent of coconut is there instead.

Eventually my partner ended up making a pot randomly one day, though, and I asked for a sip to try. I had a really sore throat and usually sweet teas make it worse, but I had no idea what to expect. Well, it was like a soothing touch to my sore throat – lightly sweet, but not overpoweringly so. The lavender has a soothing, calming effect, I believe, but it’s not the reason to buy this tea on its own, I believe. I don’t think I’d have bought this for myself to begin with, but now I’m eyeing it as the levels in my can slowly decline and I wonder, “Oh man, how soon will I have to replace this?!”

Definitely one for me that will probably serve me VERY well come the winter months and cold/flu season hits. It’s soothing, sweet, but light and still hold an element of fruitiness with its coconut touches!
