93 Tasting Notes

Yunnan from A C Perch's

So, I sipped to this tea and guess what??
It tasted like… wait for it… wait for it… TEA!!
(Yes! I am a HIMYM-fan)

Muhahah!!!
Heh, no seriously, it tasted great for a clean black tea. It has a orangy note, that sweetens up everything and makes it superFRESH… Of course Me likey.
I resteeped the leaves 3 times, and it only getting better by it.

I missed you Steeps :) I have been holed up in a little town in South Greenland with only 3000 people inhabitants. And now I am back to civilization and ready to upload all my tasting notes…. Oh, the joys of cheap internet!

Refresh from Pukka
68

Hey Steeps!

I am not the biggest Pukka-fan at the moment… Maybe I lost the gift of tasting.
Why? Because ALL their (Pukkas) tea taste like bitter liqourice or hibiscus. I loved this tea half a year ago, but now It’s like:

“Meeeeeeeeeh.”

Let me explain. The tea smell like herbs, with a fresh and “bitter” note. When the bag is steeped the bag leeks out a red color, that slowly colors the tea red brown. Taking a sip reveal a sweet bitter tea with a spicy end. Is this minty? I don’t know. Or rather – I can’t taste the “mint.” It taste more liqouricelike than minty if you ask me.
Is there something wrong with me? Did a scorching warm tea a month ago burn of some of my tongue? It’s a mystery.

… But I’ll give it a good rate. In the beginning, this was one of my faves from this company. I think the first impression is the one that count when it some to tea. Everyone changes slowly, but the taste of tea dosn’t.

Chamomile & Vanilla from Pukka

… I have a cold.
Bought this yesterday, and I can’t taste the vanilla at all.
I even got a coworker to drink it with me. She says there is vanilla in it.

We just have to belive her until I recover.

Have you ever had a “wall” that you just can’t get past?
I heard about writerblocks etc. but I never heard about a tea"wall". You know, like suddenly losing the strength to drink tea. Yup I had the tea “wall” or “block”. For like a month … or two. Maybe three, I lost count.

But today I took some tea with me to school. Among them ANASTASIA. I took my first sip of tea today and the only sentence that went through my head was:“Welcome back color”.
(It’s a name on a album by Tina Dickow). I don’t like the song or the lyrics, but the title is fitting for that little moment of tea for the first time in months.

I don’t remember writing a note for this tea so let me tell you about it:
It’s a black tea, smell’s of bergamot and other spices… But it taste exactly like Earl Grey. Just a bit sweeter and bitter. If you had to pick one of the two – then pick this one just for the can. It’s prettier.

Fragant Jade Oolong from A C Perch's

Green rhubarb cream from A C Perch's
75

… I got into the kitchen and found my teachest raided.
Two used bags had been left to dry and rot on top of it – I wonder if someone is trying to piss me off intentionaly, but I think it’s just some poor absentminded parttimers who don’t know that the tea is PRIVATE.

sigh In truth I am just very upset to find that the only tea left was the green rhubarb.
It’s creamy, sweet and green – and soo very not what I need at the moment.

As for the tea… well. It’s good.

My gadget-crazed-boyfriend Jensi brought home a icecubemaker.
Yes, an ICECUBEMAKER. The man can’t wait for water to ice, no, he needs a BIG gadget to make it faster…And here I thought people where joking about guys and their gadget frenzy. And lol of all lols, I get the biggest gadget shopaholik guy in the intire island!
(When we where in France he saw a pancakemaker that weighted !"#€ – can you belive that’s our only souvenir from France? It is. I am not joking, it’s not funny)

Turns out that the icecubemaker is one of my favorite gadget because I can make icetea in minutes. Wee! I had a idea in the back of my head that suggested this tea might be good iced – AND IT IS!!!

It’s amazing, I love it! What was the word I read in the steepster dictionary?
Teagasm? Teagasm! I recommend everyone to try it cold, it’s awesome! (At least for me, that is!)

This tea taste of cardemom and it’s so christmass-ish!

sigh …Just having one of those days that calls for some comforting cup of tea.

Before brewing:
These leafs are very small and thin. They smell sweet, with a hint of hay.

After steeping:
Yellow liquid with a neutral sweet aroma with a hint of something I can’t identify.
First sip is very sweet and reminds me of the honey pommelo(?) haves fruity notes, honey note and a bit aftertaste that lingers for some time. Describtion mentions lemon, but I am unable to find it.

Opinion:
I like the way this tea… quench the thirst? The sweetness of the tea just makes your mouth water. Uhmm, yummey <3

Bay of Bengal from Oteao

(…funny. I just declared my hatred of Ceylon tea some minutes ago and then I grabbed a random bag of tea from Thomas package. And this was it: A Ceylon)

Well for starters, the leafs are different.
Long and thin. Brown and green.

The liquid is brown-ish and very clear/transparent. It smells like a ceylon:
Heavy aromatic smell with a hint of… oolong smell. Does that make sense? Oolong has a sour smell to it, does it not?

It taste like ceylon when it hit the tongue, but as as it rolls down the notes becomes very oolong.

I am confused but also pleased.

…If you had served me this tea and told me that it was Earl Grey
- then you would have FOOLED me!

’Cause it reminds me of the Earl … Kinda. I would had looked at the reddish liquid, bittersweet smell and gone “Oh, Earl grey is it?”. But a moment later or so I would had stopped, frowned, and stared at you with a confused look in my face.

“What is that nutty flavor” I would have asked you.
“What nutty flavor?”
“That Dirt/Nuttyness in the aroma”…

And then I would sip at the tea and my eyes would go big as I swallowed because I would think something in the line of :“Uhm… sweet black tea… Nutty…. And whats that TINGLE in the back of the troat!? I know this feeling! IT’S POISON!!!!”

Snort

But It’s just me who overreact. ‘Cause I am too silly (and don’t you all know it.)
Then I would sip again and talk about the flavors. Chocolat, bergamot, tobacco, nut and a earthy aftertaste.

Sweet and bitter taste.

Hmm… I like it.
But for the wrong reasons. I like it because this tea reminds me of MARLBORRO.
Don’t know why, maybe I was brainwashed before anything with cigarrets was banned from TV. Oh, don’t get me wrong – I don’t smoke. It’s just that I can imagine a Marlborro Guy in a bar drinking this tea. (Smirk).

I leave you with that image.

Darjeeling Pure Origine from Dammann Freres
69

Hello Steeps!
Sorry for the 2-3 weeks of inactivity!

I got this as a birthday present from a friend named Puk. (Awesome guy!)
The tea came in a little black box with the name “Darjeeling Himalaya” on the side. I looked it up on steepster and I guess this should be posted under “Darjeeling Pure Origine”. Nevermind the name – it’s still awesome. The box contains 30 muslin bags of tea, that looks like mushrooms. They look so cute! I love it!

I brewed it at 80 celcius, for 3-4 minuttes, and the result is a golden liquid that smells like honey. It’s a bit bitter, but not a overbrewed kind of bitterness to it. Does that make sense? It’s a bit like honey, truthfully. Somehow this tea reminds me of orchids because of Its sweet and flowery note at the end. Great aftertaste – hard to place and quickly gone.

I am having this cold and it’s yummy.
If I had to tell you about this with few words (and I am gonna) : IRISH CREAM.
There I said it. Now I’ll go home and continue the NEVER ending project.

Basic Earl Grey from Green Raven Tea & Coffee
95

Goodmorning.
Had a dramatic day yesterday, so I start out prepared today with compassioned, loyal and bitter Earl Grey at my side. The nightmare project seems never ending, and now the Universe seem to rot itself together againts me – thus me and the Earl sulk quietly at the corner.

Grins it’s really not that bad. But I reaally need a strong tea today, so Tommy’s basic Earl Grey followed me to school. I like the leaf’s. There was a lot of medium sized brown leafs, and some few lighter full leafs. (Don’t hang me up on it, I am drawing this from memory). It brewed up to a beautifull orange/brown tea.

The smell is very … Discreet?
Sips It’s well blended. I hate when the leafs and the flavors don’t mix well, but in this there is a flow, red tread, togetherness. It’s bitter – but not overly so. Just enough that you feel that you got a slap on the back from a gay mineworker.
(I kid… But seriusly, it’s like a slap in the back, a “wake up” tea)
Bergamot can easily be too strong or too weak, but this has a nice balanced amount.

How will I rate this? Actually I only found one Earl Grey that I fully enjoyed.
This joins it. (The Earl Grey Army! GAH! – Yes I am silly, but that’s why you read this isn’t it?) The other Earl Grey is very soft and smooth, but this is a “round person”.

Earl Grey and I sulk on.

Jasmine Phoenix Pearls from SpecialTeas
68

Auch! Major papercut!
Runs crying to travelmug and feels sorry for herself

Let’s talk about the pearls. What makes them phoenix? Reads the description …
Huh. Anyway, can’t really see the difference between this and normal pearls. The size is about the same as A. C. Perchs Jasmine pearls, which is a little above the size of normal pearls. The Perch are a bit greener though. (These pearls has a lot of white streaks). Also worth noting: the pearls are somewhat very uneven in size and rooling.

Smell’s like…JASMINE!
So much, in fact, that it gives me headache.
People in my class claims that it smell’s like bubblegum?
(?How? In which way??)

Sips It’s very jasminy. Not as sweet as Canton’s pearls and not as sour as Perchs.
Actually, this is how I would think a “normal” jasmine tea SHOULD taste like.
It has a sweet aftertaste that dissappears quickly.

…I actually want to try this iced with honey!

Organic Purple Bud from Tillerman Tea
82

This looks like oolong… Small hard pieces that goes:“kling – kling” when you drop them in the pot.

Light brown liquid with a green tint.
Taste surprisingly sweet… like a good black tea. Keemun?
Earthy, fruity flavor. It’s a very smooth tea. It’s very neutral at first, aromatic at the middle, and sweet at the end.

I could drink this at breakfast!

Oriental Beauty from Tillerman Tea
94

Aww! Pretty! Look’ a’ tha’ pretty pretty leavees…
Okay, I am beat. I should go to bed, but I want more tea!!!
One last pot before bed – I promise I’ll stop pestering your dashboard afterwards.
(untill I wake up Muhahah!)

First thing first: The leaves.
They are like gypsies. No dresscode! They twist and turn, they are broken and whole and they can’t decide whether they are black or white. (Some of them are only white on 1 mm. at the end? Weird huh? I can’t imagine how they produce this.) Smell’s like hay/cereal.

I read the instructions at Tillermans site. 1 min steep it said… But I only counted to 50.
But I am truly a very slow counter. And a tired one at that.

The finished product has a yellow hue. Yum.
Sips Oh… this is very soft. Diplomatic. Silly flavorless words. Hmm… Okay, it’s sweet at first and bitter at the end. Earthy flavors. Very smooth. I am going to say the forbidden word: Assam-ish. I know, I can’t keep saying it! But it is. It taste like a middle thing between a assam and a white tea. And there is a little note of hay and honey.

All in all a pleasant encounter.

Cookie from Lupicia
79

How do they make this?
It’s yummy. Caramel and cookie taste :)

Pu-erh Chai from Golden Moon Tea
67

It’s actually decent. I like the fact that I can taste the pu erh under all the spice. The pu erh is woody and fits good with the cinnamon and cardamom. It’s very smooth and the flavors aren’t YELLING. I appreciate that.

Da Hong Pao from Seven Cups
100

This is great – no it is awesome!
It taste exactly like a Da Hong Pao should taste like. Smell’s like a sauna, have a malty taste but with a sweet end. I know it’s silly – but there is a base line in the taste that I have a hard time describing. It’s soothing, it’s sweet and clean. It reminds me of whipped cream but without all the sugar. Also noteworthy is the consistence; it’s just a little bit more thicker.

(This tea is from Thomas Smith!)

Paul et Virginie from Dammann Freres
91

Oh Yum!
I tasted something like this before! I remember I had a tea with these flavors.
If only I could remember!

It’s a black tea with a lot of different flavors… There is caramel. And God how I love the caramel. There is a sweet and bitter thing in the middle, berries or flowers? I don’t know, I can’t get my attention away from the caramel it got me paralyzed. Oh, now I remember what this reminds me of! A.C. Perchs Bailey tea and a Unknown labels Love tea. I am sure those two combined would become this! (Or something close to that)

Conclusion: It’s awesome. I am not sure that I would order it from France, but this tea reminds me that I have to have something caramel-ish tea!

This came from the Doulton package :)

Phoenix Single Grove Pommelo Flower Fragrance from Teance
85

I used the last 15 min. searching high and low for this tea in Steepster.
Couldn’t find it, so I hope you’ll forgive me if I made a dobbelganger.

The steeping time is only 45 seconds! I’ll let you know that I thought of many rude jokes about the steeping time (some of them comparing this tea with men) but I’ll spare you and just tell you that I had a good grin while counting to 45. The finished product was this bright yellow liquid. VERY bright yellow liquid. The tea smells very oolong tea like (sour leafs) but I can’t catch the fragrance mentioned on the package.

I smiled after the first sip – this tea got everything I remember oolongy, but with a sweet note at the middle. A fruity orange-ish note. Maybe that’s the pommelo flower fragrance? The tea has a sweet and bitter aftertaste that stays with you for some time. Uh-uh! Now I remember this taste! I once read that roses was edible and had a rose eating period. This taste like biting a raw rose! (Please don’t ask into it)

I have to thank Thomas Smith for this tea – he have sent me a package full of pure tea (isn’t he great!?) And I blessed him a 1000 times for sending me some da Hong Pao!!!
Thomas – you and your family have good luck for the next 800 years ;)

Profile

Bio

Many things can be said about me, but I rather not go into details… Other than the facts that: Yes, I am from Greenland (Yeah, it’s totaly awesome!) and I love my books, cats and tea.

I love all kinds of tea, but must confess a greater love towards the Da Hong Pao and a deep hatred for Ceylon and Pickwick. (Yes, I am aware that Ceylon is area). Sorry, It’s not them, it’s me.
Other than that I love the greens, the whites and the blacks (and all of the things in the middle) evenly.

Rating system – I love the smileyrate here on steepster, so I’ll just follow that. That’s 1 point for the worst tea in the history of man, and 100 point for some of the best tea… note that I usually rate high because I am a optimist and love all things tea.
