18 Tasting Notes

Earl Grey White from Teavana
67

I wanted to buy just some plain earl grey, but they were out at my shop, and this was recommended to me. I am not a fan of white tea, but I really enjoyed it.

Honeybush Mango from Adagio Teas
10

Did I just get a bad batch? I found this awful, it tasted like floral perfume! I ended up giving the rest of mine away. Not a fan at all – not sure if it’s the honeybush or the mango flavoring that ruined it for me.

Masala Chai from Wegmans
8

Not pleased with this one. The black tea is strong, but the spices are too weak – I might as well just buy a box of plain black tea bags.

Peach Oolong from Adagio Teas
96

This tea is FANTASTIC. Very strong peach flavor even without any sugar added. Naturally sweet. I will definitely be buying more when my sample runs out.

Berry Blues from Adagio Teas
79

I liked this much better iced than I did hot – but that’s usually my opinion of fruity teas and tisanes. It’s sweet like juice but zero calories, which makes it an instant win in my book, but it’s not as strong in the blueberry flavor as I’d hoped.

Earl Grey Moonlight from Adagio Teas
93

Creamy and very soft. Reminds me of an orange creamsicle! This is a great tea for when I feel like indulging and adding a little milk and sugar.

Rooibos Lemon Cloud from Adagio Teas
84

Not overwhelmingly lemony like I’d hoped, but a little sugar helps a lot! The rooibos flavor is nice and strong and pleasant, none of the funny aftertaste of some lower quality rooibos blends.

Genmaimatcha from Wegmans
92

This tea is fantastic if you’re feeling adventurous. It’s the perfect blend of matcha and popcorn flavors! It definitely has a kick of caffiene to it, too.

Tomo Sencha from Wegmans
88

Tastes like fresh cut grass in a delicious way. A nice, light green.

mint chai organic green tea from Wegmans
33

One spice in this tea is really strong – I think it’s the licorice, but I’m not sure. If you brew too long it’s almost nauseating, so keep an eye on this one. It’s a decent minty green, but theres not much chai spiciness.

Wuyi Oolong from Wegmans
53

My first oolong, it has a really distinctive nutty taste that is quite pleasant. However, more than a few sips and I start to grow bored of the flavor. I think this would be a fine base for blending.

Strawberry from Adagio Teas
92

The strawberry taste is super subtle; the black tea takes center stage, and the strawberry leaves a lingering sweet aftertaste. I certainly wouldn’t have it any other way, since it IS tea, after all. If you add a little milk and sugar, this becomes a very yummy sweet tea.

English Breakfast (High Grown) from Teavana
80

I tend to stay away from Teavana, but it’s my only local tea shop and I was craving something simple for a good iced tea. This was it.

I was pleasantly surprised by this, actually. Now, I won’t go into my ethical grievances with the company, but I will say that I’ve tasted their tea samples and they’re all basically colored sugar water – not so with this tea. It’s very good, and the fresh, unsweetened iced tea it made really hit the spot. I’d buy it again.

Gunpowder from Adagio Teas
94

Green tea is my favorite, and this tea is why! It’s smoky and vegetal at the same time, the perfect mix of spinach and campfires, but I mean that in the best way! It’s a good morning cup, the flavor will definitely wake you up. It also tastes great iced, which is a blessing when you have a stretch of 95 degree days like the one I’m stuck in right now.

By the way, this is good for 3-4 steeps. The sample goes a long way!

Masala Chai from Adagio Teas
72

Out of the four teas in the chai sampler, this was the one I was the most excited for, but I don’t think it quite delivered. It’s tasty, there’s really nothing wrong with the flavor…except that there’s not enough of it! I like my chai SPICY, and this seemed mild no matter how long I steeped it for. I have to say, the vanilla rooibos chai wins over this one.

On a kinder note, my four year old niece tried a sip of this prepared with cream and sugar and absolutely loved it. Everytime she comes over now, she asks me to make her a cup of my “spicy tea” and I make her an iced masala chai :)

Chocolate Chai from Adagio Teas
66

The chocolate is pretty much an undertone, sadly, but this still makes a pretty yummy cup for an afternoon snack. I added a touch of half and half and a generous tsp of sugar, and it sort of reminded me of subtle, spicy hot chocolate.

Thai Chai from Adagio Teas
67

I didn’t taste the spiciness that I associate with chai tea, which was sort of a bummer for me. I’m a huge fan of masala chai, so I’m really used to heavy cloves, cinnamon, and cardamom. This tea is lighter, and the flavor of the lemongrass and coconut pop more than the spices.

That aside, this is a really great tea, and I think the only chai I prefer without milk and sugar.

Rooibos Vanilla Chai from Adagio Teas
91

I bought the chai sampler from Adagio and I think that this is the best of the bunch! With a little milk and sugar, it’s so creamy and smooth. You can’t taste the rooibos much, but vanilla and ginger are prominent. If you have a sweet tooth, this makes an excellent low-cal substitute for cake or candy. I will definitely be buying this again when my sample runs out!!
