2967 Tasting Notes
On January 1 I ordered Yume, the New Years tea, from Lupicia. Like a bunch from their winter collections it seems more like a spring and summer flavor to me, so I always save it for later in the year. But I figured I’d get a sipdown done with the sample sachet they included.
Steepster indicates I’ve had this before, though I don’t seem to have written a tasting note. Hmm.
The jasmine gives it a very dry mouthfeel, but the flavor is not unpleasant. Its not something I’m going to buy, but a sample is a perfectly nice cup.
I have a friend who gives me some of this every Christmas, which is very sweet. Its not my favorite blend, but it does a good job as a work tea, and that’s where it is.
This years version seems sweeter and smoother than in years past, which is an initial good sign. I hope it can continue with this pleasing trend!
For the second day in a row I have mysteriously awoken at about four in the morning and been unable to go back to sleep.
Fun. Especially on a Monday when its pouring rain, and my car is overheating. Super fun.
Tea will be my only power today, and this earthy cup of goodness is kicking off todays tea binge.
I am now 100% unable to get Star Wars out of my mind.
I’m one of lifes big nerds. Science fiction, magic, people with swords and capes? Dragons? Robots? Sweeping soundtracks? Sign me up. And Star Wars has been a much beloved property since my older sister showed it to me and our brother when she was babysitting us one day. I was in love, and nothing (not even freaking Jar Jar Binks) would diminish my love.
But, you know how you think you can appreciate something and love it and feel comfortable that you have thought all the thoughts and loved all the love for it? Well, the Last Jedi has proven me wrong. I didn’t expect this film to make me love the franchise more, but it has, and I’m turning the film over and over in my mind like a river stone, practically aching for the next one to come out.
Eeek. What do you mean, 2019? Eeeeeek!
Its a good thing there are lots of other movies between now and then for me to geek out to. (I’m looking at you, Infinity War).
Which is a very off topic way of saying that I drank this tea and thought about the Last Jedi, and enjoyed its spicy qualities while doing so.
I finally saw Rogue One the other day and was actually quite disappointed. I think my problem is watching episodes IV-VI all over and over again during my childhood made me set the bar too high with these subsequent releases.
My son was about 5 when The Phantom Menace came out. It was perfect. Young rebel hero, silly aliens that made me giggle. I loved watching him watch it … and then pretend it with his action figures over and over and over. For that reason, I am one of the seven people planet-wide that will always love Jar Jar and company.
It’s great how much they promoted strong women characters in this film as something other than a love interest or sex object. I loved Holdo and wish we got to see more of her! I also really like how tantrum filled Kylo is. It’s the perfect contrast to the Jedi training of controlling your emotions and not giving way to impulse.
So, between Christmas and New Years Eve I was visiting family in New York City, freezing my ears off, and trying to sneak off to tea places.
I managed to hit the Harney and Sons Soho location, which was lovely. I did tea flights, ate scones, and sat among the teas.
I had a limited budget and limited suitcase space, so I only picked up one tea to bring home, and it was this one.
First pot tells me that its got tons of potential, but needs a delicate hand, as there is a bitter edge to this thats not quite sitting right, but I suspect will go away with a lighter steep time.
First pot of the tea of the day.
I am taking it slow today, which has been lovely. And later I am going to finally go see the Last Jedi! Eee!
I am a major nerd, and its just been circumstances that kept me away from the film thus far. I am super excited to be seeing it (no spoilers, please).
This morning, a dark, cool morning, which I was utterly exhausted in, marked the end of this tin of Queen Catherine.
Alas! And I have already set myself a goal that I may not buy new teas until my cupboard has been shrunk down to 30 teas (20 teas from now.) Aargh!
Well, she won’t be gone for long. She’s entirely too good to be gone for long. I will once again be in the company of the Queen, but for today, a sipdown.
OMG, 30 teas is your cupboard goal?! I’m impressed! That seems unfathomable after having an out of control cupboard for several years.
I dont mean to be an enabler here, but I would make an exception for the Queen. Maybe a separate goal? Drink down five or ten more and the Queen rejoins the shelf? :)
I must say that it has crossed my mind. The Queen is most certainly one of my tea that will be in my permanent collection.
The problem with beloved teas is that one tends to reach for them instead of the ones that really need sipping down. And one day, I am going to finally try this Queen. And a few others by H & S that beckon to me.
I am in complete agreement on that point. And, I am a huge fan of H&S blends, so I can never order just one.
Of course Steepster was down when I was undergoing wild sipdown madness. I am very happy to see it back up and running today!
I drank this yesterday, where it did not thrill, but didn’t horrify. It was an easy enough tea to drink, but like all these sachets, uninspired.
But, a sipdown!
