Berry Blues from Adagio Teas
46

Mild flavor, not strong. A bit tart… Not sweet so much as tasting like berries without the sweetness.

It has a long finish. The finish is more blueberry than the sip.

A nice enough tisane for getting in my water total for the day, but if I wasn’t disallowed caffeine and was able to drink regular teas I’d not bother with this.

Pina Colada from Adagio Teas
42

Not bad, but nothing to yell about, either. I have to limit my caffeine now so I tried some tisanes from Adagio; this was one of them.

As a changeup from the straight water I drink all day it’s good. But it’s not something I’d be sitting around and think “Hmm, some Pina Colada tisane sounds good…” about.

It’s okay.

Hattialli Golden Paw Assam from Lochan Tea Limited
Hattialli Golden Paw Assam from Lochan Tea Limited

This is an earthy Assam. Gives the mental tone of reddish-brown. Slightly burnt tasting, but not overwhelming… just enough of the typical Assam edge to let you know that’s what you’re drinking. It’s mildly astringent.

It’s finish is mostly in the back of the throat, that same dark flavor as the mouthful.

Maybe it’s my taste buds today but I’m not impressed with this tea. It’s rather thin, not very tasteful. What it has it a flat wheat flavor. It calls for sweetener just to give it another flavor for more depth. It has more of an after-taste than what I’d call a finish.

If there was more to the sample I might play around with temperatures and times, but there’s not.

I’ve actually had this a few times but am just now getting around to rating.

It’s very yummy. The smell is malty, honey-ish, with warm rusty undertones. The taste has that warmth and redness rather than more burnt or black tastes of most black teas. It has a short finish. It is very satisfying and light. Not a heavy tea at all, in case blacks are usually feeling too strong or dark to you. It’s very easy to like.

Yanagi Bancha from Obubu Tea
46

This is slight sweet with a somewhat hay-like flavor. It’s moderately dark and has a short finish. It’s a light tea, not strongly flavored but pleasant.

Sencha of the Spring Sun from Obubu Tea
49

Wow this tasted horrible. Just green bitterness, no sweetness at all.

Kabuse Sencha from Obubu Tea
4

I just received this sample as part of the Owners Club Gift. I don’t like it at all. Very green and bitter. I tried it using the warm and then standard methods of steeping and didn’t care for either outcome.

Original Masala Chai from Yogic Chai
52

I made this with vanilla almond milk and agave nectar and it is very good. The spices are balanced and it’s solid without being heavy. Very yummy.

Moroccan Mint from Earthbound Tea
21

I expected the mint to be too strong by the smell, but instead the tea tastes of the green and not really any mint….it’s more that the mint leaves that little zing in your mouth as you swallow, rather than being a flavor.

It’s not terrible, just not great.

lapsang souchong from Dr. Tea's Tea Garden
10

I’m not liking this. Normally I enjoy smokey teas, so I expected to like it. It tastes like a camp fire. Not pleasantly.

Houjicha - Smoky Roast from Obubu Tea

Houjicha - Smoky Roast from Obubu Tea

Smoky with a faint sweetness in the back of the throat. Toasty tasty. Not a favorite, but very glad I received enough for several cups. Might buy more!

Organic Genmaicha from Den's Tea
54

This was a gentle, toasty green. In other genmaichas I’ve had the rice taste made it strong and unpleasant. This was quite yummy, easy to drink.

Severe Degree of Fermentation Oolong Tea from GoeTea
T.T.E.S. No. 18: Ruby Black Tea from Yuangshiang - ITFA - International Tea Farm Allaince/TeaFarms.org
75

This smells Very sweet and a bit dark.

The taste is very round and full on the tongue, a rich dark Assam taste without bitterness or burnt flavor at all. It is very sweet/malty around the back of the throat and a bit fruity in the nose. A pleasing taste! There’s also something there with the zinginess of mint without the flavor.

Gyokuro (Traditional Genuine) Harvest May 2011 First Flush from International Tea Farm Allaince - KuriharaSeicha (Japan Yame)
52

TeaEqualsBliss’s description of it tasting a lot of buttered lima beans is dead on. It has a short finish but while sipping is very round in the mouth, almost but not quite coating.

Organic Houjicha 2nd Flush (Japan Kyoto Wazuka) Harvest June 2011 (ITFA - International Tea Farm Alliance) from Obubu Tea
65

I made this gongfu style so take that into account. I wanted to try it this way as I was trying other teas today like so.

It’s good. I like it. The taste is hard to describe. It’s pleasantly sweet and reminds me of barley. It’s light but with a lingering finish, mostly on the front of the tongue.

While I am trading most of my ITFA teas (not that they’re bad, they have all been great quality! Just not favorites for me), I think I’m going to keep this one. Thankfully the sample is huge in this tea club and it’ll last me near forever :D

I definitely suggest trying it if you get the chance!

Organic Gemmai Cha - Harvest Summer 2011 (ITFA Global Tea Taster's Club) from Obubu Tea
14

On first sip I don’t think I like this at all. The smell is very much a burnt smell. A sweet light burnt taste with it.

I can see how others may like it but I cannot stand it.

Superior Sencha (Hukamushi Premium) - ITFA from Ukibe Seicha Haru Ichiban
51

The unsteeped tea smells green and sweet. A very nice sniff lol.

As to flavor, it is good. This is very much a sencha that I would suggest to others, but is not a love for me. I like it, it’s grassy and crisp and sweet and just generally pleasing, but I’m too limited on space to keep anything other than an all-out have-to-have at this point. I look forward to giving it away so that someone else can love it.

Profile

Bio

Unless otherwise noted, I use 2.25g of tea to 6oz of water for my tastings.

Geeky, vegan, dominant, serious, non-gendered, married, childfree, eclectic, alternatively-styled, friendly and open-minded are good descriptors of me, I think. Also: extremely introverted, but not at all shy.

I grew up on bag teas, mainly Lipton, at my father’s and great-grandmother’s homes. I loved getting up before everyone else and sitting with a hot cup and reading or watching some quiet tv in the morning.

I didn’t bother much with tea for the years of my teenhood because of no longer seeing either of these people and my mother’s house wasn’t one for tea… more coffee drinkers, instead.

During my adulthood I started drinking it again, but still mostly bag teas like Lipton, Tetley, and some herbal mixes. I enjoyed these but went no further…

…until I was at a restaurant one night and ordered a Darjeeling tea to give it a try.

I fell back in love with tea and have since been trying all sorts of loose leaf and some bag teas.

I’m currently delving mainly into white teas, but my tastes wander.

I’m also now in a tea-of-the-month club, dabbling in other loose-leafs here and there, and randomly pick up things that look interesting at a store now and then.

I live in Texas somewhat against my will (we’re here due to my husband’s job right now), though I enjoyed Dallas. I’m now in a tiny town south of there and north of Austin.

Not sure what else to say here… if you like my notes or are interested in chatting about something, do feel free to send a note. I love meeting new folks, especially since we share at least one interest, being on this site and all.
