2000 Tasting Notes

Creme Caramel Rooibos from DAVIDsTEA
73

so uh this was supposed to be a tasting note…and on the way to get here i stopped by a conversation on FB and then i had to draw a picture…let me tell you…MS paint is a PITA! anyway i digress… i got to thinking..I dunno how many people remember that whole geocities thing where there were chat rooms you could hang out in and sometimes you had to wait to get into them and what not. wouldn’t that be fun if steepster had one? except then i probably wouldn’t get ANY work done… anyway that was a nice visit down memory lane :)

so this tea? not bad and i’ll certainly enjoy drinking it while i have it but it won’t be a re-order. The caramel is slightly artificial tasting to me and it makes me want my caramel black! Oh! this came by way of Joon through Cavocorax so thank you both! love trying out new teas :)

Rooibos Tropica from Teavana

sample sipdown from fiddling! (285) this is a totally uninteresting boring rooibos to me. sure it’s got some fruity aspects going on but over all it’s like that friend you have where they tag along sometimes and you don’t mind seeing them but there’s never any OMG I MISS YOU! WHY HAVEN’T I SEEN YOU IN FOREVER! it’s just kinda like “hey…what’s up…cool beans, yo!”
yeah. that’s my story. lol

Kiwi's Big Adventure from DAVIDsTEA

SIPDOWN! Thanks to courtney for sending this my way in our last swap :) I think my favourite thing about some of my swaps is getting to try david’s teas which i just don’t buy for myself 98% of the time. This one intrigued me simply because i haven’t tried many (any?) kiwi flavoured teas. Not sure that i get the full on “kiwi” flavour in this one, and the green base is not entirely really sort of there but this is a nice enough tea. Nothing i’m dying to keep in my cupboard but i’d drink it again from time to time. :) thanks courtney!

Ginger Peach from The Republic of Tea
69

SIPDOWN! This is another one terri sent and for which the folks at work stole my remaining teabags of! I saved one to have this evening and i’m glad i did. This is another pretty decent tea bag from republic of tea. What i’ve come to realise is that while there are other companies that do the nice sachets and whose teas are pretty decent, this is the sort of company for which i could easily have a couple tins tucked away at work. This is a pretty nice juicy peach sort of tea. My only complaint is with how light the ginger is. I wish it were just a smidgen more gingery. Still though, not a bad little tea! thanks terri!

Spring Cherry Green Tea from The Republic of Tea
64

sipdown! I had this earlier this afternoon and it was pretty decent for a bagged tea. I actually think this would make a good cocktail type of tea. even a non alcoholic one. Maybe cherry-lemon or something of that nature. Either way, thanks to terri for letting me try this one out!

Peaches and Cream from Sloane Tea Company

Apparently it’s bagged tea afternoon, was…is… we’ll see. I couldn’t resist having another cup of this since i was able to pick up a couple tins cheaply at the sloane sale yesterday. I Still have some of the loose version from Lala that i’m saving for a rainy day but at work, the sachets will do in a pinch. This is still a really lovely white tea – coming from someone who finds most white teas to be boring and non nondescript (because i won’t touch floral or jasmine teas and that seems to be the trend with “good” white teas). Still digging this and i’m super happy lala shared with me so i’d know to get more!

Also, for anyone interested, this tea is likely going to be coming back in November in loose leaf form through the sloane company and not “chapters/indigo.” yay!

Cherry Blossom from Harney & Sons
65

sample sipdown! Thank you fiddling! I should say that fiddling was wonderful enough to send me three sachets of this lovely blend to try but when i brewed this up at work today, suddenly i magically had none left lol. Not that i’m complaining, because i do love sharing tea but i thought it fair to give credit to fiddling for sending me more than 1 of these haha.

This tea isn’t bad, but it’s not the kind of cherry that i love. This is more of the artificial type of cherry that you find in most things. This is also a green tea, which isn’t my preferred cup of tea. But it is a light, refreshing tea that isn’t overly floral or “too green.” My only real complaint is that the cherry flavour isn’t quite there. But this is a decent enough tea so i’m happy to have tried it :)

Imperial Golden Monkey ZP85 from Upton Tea Imports

Another tea from this morning. A tasty cup though likely not a re-order. I do like the chocolate notes, though they’re nowhere near as present as laoshan black. they blend nicely with the malty tones in the tea. over all not a bad cup

Orange & Cream from Della Terra Teas
76

Made a mug of this in the morning since i was feeling particularly strange. I didn’t want any of my teas for whatever reason and my throat wasn’t feeling too hot. I’m not sick, but i am exausted. This was one of the few teas that said HEY! DRINK ME! so i had this one. Still enjoying this one – love the orange/cream taste. I wish it were a black tea, though part of the whole reason i picked some of this up was to have more late evening options for those days that caffeine actually affects me. And since i have friends that have issues with caffeine who were looking to branch out. Overall, still a nice enough tea though i suspect by the time i finish my bag, i’ll be done with it, as is the case with a lot of flavoured teas.

Piña Colada from PureAromaTea
86

sipdown! 290 :) Back to where i started this week with my mini relapse thanks to sloane’s stupidly amazing sale. I really like this one a lot. which says a ton about this tea since i am not a fan of coconut overall. it’s smooth and tasty and the coconut doesn’t overpower, instead it blends really nicely with the pineapple.

Caramel Cream from PureAromaTea
80

sipdown! with the addition of the teas i purchased today, that brings me to 291. Not to terrible considering it was my goal to get to 290 by the end of this past weekend. I’ve really enjoyed this caramel green while it’s been in my cupboard. I’m pretty sure it’s my favourite now, topping even the persimmon tree’s version which i loved for the longest time. it’s smooth and delicious!

Hattialli Estate GBOP(TA02) from Upton Tea Imports
72

Another of my morning teas that i’ve been too busy to log. It appears that this is the second time i’ve done that so this may jsut be one of those teas that is a good average every day tea that doesn’t sneak up on you but isn’t bad either. I’ve got more of this in my sample – have i mentioned lately how crazy awesome upton samples are in terms of size and value?!?!? so i’ll try one more time at least. Mostly i recall this being a little malty, but not overly so and not bitter or anything. so yay!

SIPDOWN!(288, soon to be higher again) also 1700th tasting note AND a thank you to gracebtlb for sending this one along in our swap. Now i’ve had this before grace sent it along but part of why i figured it would go well as my 1700th tasting note is that this is one of the first few teas that i ever tried when i started out on this journey less than a year ago. It’s nice to revisit where i started from and how far i’ve come in the teas that i’ve experienced and the flavours that i’ve come to love, hate or otherwise. This was one of my favourite teas in the beginning, but over time i’ve come to realise that other companies do similar blends that are a bit more expertly crafted than David’s Tea. It is a really nice blend though and it will always have a special place in my heart as one of the first teas i REALLY fell in love with that kicked off my crazy flavour journey :)

So thank you grace! for a walk down memory lane and a chance to revisit an old friend :) Especially since i haven’t had free time to really enjoy your other samples that i’m SUPER excited about!

Persian Palace from Sloane Tea Company
56

I had a sample of this today while visiting the sloane pop up shop for their RIDICULOUS SALE. As far as the guy i talked to remember, this happens maybe once every couple of years. sooooo self imposed may ban is out the window so i’m going to try and aim for mid june, and if i can make it through mid june, i’ll kick it all the way to my birthday in mid july….or 10 days before that so that Us orders have time to arrive before my bday lol

This one wasn’t too bad, though it wasn’t as exciting as i hope it would be. there was some astringency that i didn’t like to it but mostly there wasn’t much happening with flavour. Compared to some of the other sloane blends, this is much inferior. The cardamon was nicely done..but it wasn’t too exciting.

Pineapple Upside Down Cake from Della Terra Teas
85

Had a cup of this with dinner. Still a delicious cake like tea that is nice when I want a super sweet indulgent cup of sweetness. Again, nothing I’d ever want to drink every day but every so often its a nice tea to curb my sweet cravings and keep me on track in my eating well and staying away from sweets. ;)

Apple Strudel Pistachio from Cuppa'T Specialty Teas
78

thank you lala for this one. I swear it smells and tastes VERY much like another tea that i’ve had though i can’t seem to recall which one it was. This is a really nice apple-y sort of strudel tea. I just wish i could remember which tea it reminds me of. I am really enjoying this one on this super cold, gross afternoon of hail, rain, wind and minor sleep deprivation from last night haha time to make cookies!

Héritage Gourmand - Macaron from Mariage Frères
66

sipdown! thus beating my “goal” for this weekend of getting to 290. 289! and there’s still a few more hours left in the day….though maybe not too many since i am beat! release weekend = no sleep and we needed up having to roll back at the last minute so pretty much it was an all nighter for no reason. Now to see if we have to do it again in may or we bundle it into the june release. ugh.

final verdict no this tea? I’m not a fan. there’s a bitterness that i can’t seem to get rid of no matter how i steep it. It’s not a BAD tea but when i think about mousse au chocolat…there is no comparison for me! Still though, thanks so much shmiracles for this sample since i do love trying mariage teas! and even though it’s not the most amazing it was still a treat! :)

Butterscotch from Simpli-special

forgot that i had this one last night as well. another sipdown but to be honest i recall nothing about it last night beyond wanting sleep. lol

Honeybush Chocolate Cake from Nothing But Tea
70

sipdown! Thanks kittylovestea I managed to get this one to work out on my second attempt. This is a pretty decent cakelike honeybush and i’m quite enjoying my cup. It’s nothing i feel the need to restock but i am happy to have tried this one, especially now that i got it to work better :)

Coconut Mango Colada from Tea Forte
81

backlog! sample sipdown. I had this last night as well near the end of it..just before i got to take my nap between 3:30 and 5 lol I’m super glad that lala sent this my way as it’s not something i would have picked up because of the coconut even though the mango would have tempted me. Verdict after this second bag? Delicious! For sure something i could keep around at work for a bagged tea in a pinch :) thanks lala!

Earl Grey from Tazo

Backlog from last night – sample sipdown from kittylovestea I had a couple bagged teas to try last night. early grey and i? we don’t get along because of that bergamot stuff :P While it wasn’t anything delicious, there was a small part of me that can see how this might be pretty tasty as a latte. still though? not a winner simply because it’s not my kinda tea :) nice to cross it off my list though!

Shui Xian Wuyi Oolong from Verdant Tea
79

Another backlog from last night. I REALLY enjoyed this one cold last night. Without sugar, it was a dark roasty oolong that had a slight hint of vanilla. With a little sweetener the vanilla notes popped out more. Either way it was a tasty cold cup of tea last night!

Mango Sunrise from Yumchaa
67

backlog and sipdown! Made a large batch of this cold brew the other day and had it last night. I much prefer this as a cold brew than a hot one as the flavours became slightly more enhanced. Thank you again Hallieod for letting me try this one!

Fili from Custom-Adagio Teas
57

backlog Sipdown! thanks terri! I had this last night while testing – it’s not something i love with that familiar weird adagio taste i don’t like but for whatever reason i kept drinking it. None of the tastes really popped with this one – it seemed to boil down to just a meh cup of tea. Oh well, can’t win them all! :)

Bio

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
